I don't know anyone who contributes to the society what they might have spent celebrating birthdays, christmas etc. It's never crossed my mind or anyone I can think of.

Watchtower potentially receives at least $2.1 Billion a year in revenue by prohibiting holidays, etc...
by Calebs Airplane inso we all know that the main reason the watchtower corporation prohibits holidays, extra-curricular sports, higher education, etc.
is that this money could potentially become "voluntary donations" with just a little guilting and manipulation.
in the minds of the brooklyn brass, money that isn't spent on all this worldly stuff is potential liquid revenue (at least some of it anyway).. now let's go extremely conservative for a minute and say that the average "worldly" person only spends a total of $300 a year on christmas, birthdays, st. valentines, father's day, mother's day, extracurricular school sports, higher education, and all the other stuff that the wt frowns upon.... we all know that the real number is much higher than $300.

First mention of "new light" may appear in July 15, 2013 Watchtower
by cedars ina trusted source informs me that the "new light" about the faithful slave is to make its first printed appearance in the july 15th watchtower, which should be available for download online three weeks from now, on around april 15th.. i'm led to believe that the references to the new understanding are made in such a manner as to suggest the "new light" isn't that new at all, which suggests to me that little or no effort is being made to explain the doctrinal connotations.
my source and i are hoping to get a key paragraph posted at the earliest opportunity.
watch this space!.

So Cedars, how long will it take you to post a full blown commentary on the article(s) once the mag is up do you think? We've had lots of discussion on the doctrinal implications on the board so there's chunk of material already there let alone whatever raises it's head once we get to see the "reasoning".
I suspect the content will be underwhelming, especially since it's not really meant alot to the masses already. It seems that whatever has excited me over the past months as someone awakening to TTATT is a very little concern to pretty much everyone else. Doctrinal change, scientific advances, scandals - nothing seems to wake anyone. The great thing is, however, that once an awakening starts there is plenty of material out there to support individuals.

Saw this during Thursdays meeting when I was browsing JW.org supposedly downloading the latest who are JW propaganda brochure. I had to physically stifle my laughter. I immediately thought why did he get resurrected in his pirate clothes but not his beard. I showed it to a friend after the meeting and we had a right laugh about it. I really do wonder what the nutters in Brooklyn are on.

TTATT Billboards?
by Emery inhas anyone ever thought about paying for a billboard close to either an assembly hall or a kingdom hall during memorial season?
for instance i would probably pay for a billboard for a week or 2 displaying jwfacts.com on the highway or a nearby road that witnesses travel on heavily.
has anyone ever tried something like this?.

i.behavior control.
ii.information control.

Very true but it still doesn't stop people asking elders and above what they should do in a given circumstance. I bet the ex and current elders on here would have a field day describing all the stupid things they have been asked if it is ok to do or not.

This is the web archive from Aug 2012. The text looks the same to me.
http://web.archive.org/web/20120830063214/http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/shunning
The google webcache is saying it's version is 8th March 2013. Again the text looks the same.
Are people convinced the text has changed?

It's interesting that the 74 WT, although on the CD ROM, does not appear as a refererence anywhere in the Index under Disfellowshipping. Articles pre and post this one that reinforce a harsher line, especially to family members, are referenced.
I wonder if the society should be informed of this obvious oversight, surely it would not have been removed on purpose...
EDIT - Sorry - checked again and it is referenced however not in sections on how to treat DF'ed ones, just in the subjects related to effect on family and reinstatement.
