BROTHERS & SISTERS - READ THE BROCHURE!
by The Searcher injesus always used illustrations to help people reason on the import of what he was saying.
here is an illustration followed by a reality;.
imagine that your heart went out to all those poor people who suffered when fukushima blew up, so much so, that when an internationally renowned charity asked for donations to help those in need, you donated $5000 to the cause.

The process is the same in the UK. Take a look at the following page on the Charity Commission web site for our assembly hall:
The graphics speak for themselves but if you look at any of the audited accounts available online on the that page you will see the raw data that proves that when they plead poverty each assembly they are lying - the expenses are actaully half what the donations from the circuits/congs are.
It's a pure money making machine.

If you really want to stop the rapid escalation of this then you need to do a massive back pedal.
1 - Stop writing letters. You will never get a proper answer and it will only be routed through to your local body for the Spanish Inquisition.
2 - Eat humble pie with the elders. Explain that you've mediatated on things, prayed about it, done some more research on waiting on Jehovah etc. and realise that you now have got some perspective on things. Say whatever it takes to convince them that this was just a blip, your concerns are no longer an issue etc. etc.
3 - Work really hard to restore things with your wife. Concentrate on reassurance about your love for her etc. This one is the most important since the WTS couldn't care less if you leave the org but the collateral damage in your family will have a direct impact on you. If you and your wife basically love each other and want to work it out then you have to reassure her of this, avoid contentious issues and back down from taking the WTS, the elders and your wife on all at the same time.
When a person sees a loved one rejecting such a core part of your life it frightens the heck out of them. The WTS breeds a paranoia about apostacy, the fear of the impact of being disfellowshipped is a powerful mind control tool and your wife is clearly no where near ready to take on board reasonable discussion about the pros and cons of WTS doctrine.
jgnats advice is 100% correct. Back right off, say what you need to say to get the elders off your back and work as hard as you can to get your wife's trust back. I am fading at the moment and already it's getting on for 1 year. I have said and done a few things that have scared my wife and that's even when she is not one to go running to the elders. I have had to slow down, do some reasearch (e.g. Steve Hassan's publications) and bide my time. She is now at the point where she is just about accepting that I am not comfortable with going on field ministry other than some token calls and that I genuinely don't care if we miss meetings.
I really feel for you - but do not be afraid to give it plenty of time unless you are willing to take the risk of DF/DA. If you really want to keep your wife and family then your top priority right now is to regain your wife's trust.
Keep using the board - everyone here wants to help.

Elder and MS Extortion!
by jw07 inthe elders and ministerial servants at my hall were asked to attend a strange meeting last night.
the society is asking for our help to raise $10,200.
they are seeking to raise this money in april from elders and ministerial servants in our circuit only.

Go to the CO or phone Bethel and double check. Even in a society full of oddness this is a particuarly odd approach. Question one or two of the elders. Something is not right about this one.
Of course, this could be a belated April Fools ;-)

I am an MS in UK and nothing like this is happening in our circuit (yet at least!). If it were I would not conform for a number of reasons but the first one being that I would not donate any money from my family's funds without agreement with my wife. I would not donate without knowing what the money was being used for. If the information was not forthcoming then I would be quite happy to ask the questions.
This would have been my position 9 months ago before the start of my awakening. Now, I would not donate just because the WTS is not getting any of my hard earned dosh!
Of course, if it is truely limited to one circuit then it is likely related to an embarrasing circuit shortfall somewhere. Can't wait to hear what the real reason is, if you ever get told.

Does WTS want the goverments to turn on them?
by jeremiah18:5-10 inconsidering that the wts has long held the view that the "wild beast" would turn on and destroy false religion and that "gog of magog" would attack "god's people", does wts want and in fact hope that their radical views and rigid/unyielding practices will incur the wrath of governments and courts?.
any adverse judgments are going to be spun as fulfillment of prophecy and be used to further pull the ranks together.
any victories are viewed as gods blessing.. it seems they are desperate at times to manipulate the governments into turning on religion, including their own.

The WTS is caught in a big morass of conflicting priorities. They have to keep the R&F convinced the big A is round the corner yet manage the fact that time is marching on regardless of every expectation they have raised. They have to embrace the use of technology and the internet yet the same tools are presenting a mass of critical/alternative views in a readily accessible form. Growth is being experienced in certain fields but established territories are stagnant at best. Encourgaing education and career development would help secure future contributions (c.f. Mormons) but experience shows that educated ones tend to exercise their critical thinking skills and do not make strong sheep.
It's the same when it comes to the governments. Taking advantage of tax efficient organisational structures protects finances. Being able to build without major opposition solidifies the perception of the Witnesses as another acceptable religion. Being able to work within democratic legal structures helps further religious freedom and the publishing work. However, they also have to feed a persecution complex. In the face of ever increasingly speculative dogma, the harsh reality of persecution works to polarise the feelings of the R&F. It can be latched onto and faced as a group, helps gloss over issues of centralised, top down control and works on peoples' fears.
To that end, even the most minor incidents are amplified. A bunch of looney, right wind nutters in Bulgaria attack a KH - it's a sign that the whole of eastern Europe could revert to cold war levels of persecution overnight. The French government take on the tax exempt status of the WTS in France - it's a sign that even liberal democracies are poised to pick on the WTS.
The WTS needs new light. The WTS needs some limited persecution. The WTS needs events that can be seized on to promote feelings of urgency, group unity and unquestioning loyalty to the GB. These things in the minds of ones blinded by cognitive dissonance are the only hope for the WTS to perpetuate things for decades to come.

Hi Julia,
I can really empatise with your situation, I have been going through very similar things. Based on my experience, I would echo the general tone of the comments above. On an individual level I have no problem with pretty much any elder I know but when push comes to shove it is the out and out exception for any elder to really stick his neck out and support someone who is in the crosshairs. This is doubly the case if the CO expresses any kind of opinion. The body will follow.
If you really want to fade then you have to play things very carefully if you have attracted attention. 100% your husband should be at any meeting with the elders, not least since the elders should respect the "headship" arrangement (there has been instruction to elders on this btw). Of course, the real benefit is that (a) the elders will be more wary of how aggressive they are and (b) your husband will see first hand any unfair behaviour. Be very wary of thinking the CO might be looking to bash Elder Snake - they all know how to play the game and will not hesitate to let you give you self plenty of rope. Unless you are happy to risk things escalating can I suggest playing things down a little - play the "look, I am just tired, the system is getting me down blah blah". If you want to get Snake off your back then perhaps just a little dig via the CO will be enough - "I appreciate Snake's time but I felt like I was being accused of things rather than encouraged". The elders have had lots of reminders about treating the sheep with love and care, dignifying them. This week's WT backed that up. I've found that simply playing the "system is getting me down" card is very good at keeping the heat off. Ultimately the less you say the better - elders are trained to let people talk and talk - ultimately to their own detriment.
all the best with things!

what topics/posts should be made sticky (if that ever where to be a possibility)?.

Amazing thread n the Ugaritic texts. Reminded me of this series on the BBC a while back. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zsbwv/episodes/guide. Leolaia is a real credit to this board - what a shame few JWs will ever get to read her work.
