why is it that there are more woman than men in the organization?
in my congregation there was much more woman than men.
it was about 60-65% woman.
JH, I don't have an answer as to why, but my first four years in the cult was in a Spanish cong. and it was mostly women and a few white elders that spoke ok spanish.
When I've visited the congs. in Hawaii, I noticed the same thing, mostly women and imported white elders. Seems the ethnic men have very little interest in "reaching out" or even attending. I think in these cultures religious devotion seems to be the woman's job....
i realise this question is off-topic for this forum but i believe this forum moved away from it's original intent long ago, and is now just a social place to talk to others with a similar background.
i've got a friend who has recently begun going to aa meetings.
she tells me that an 'alcoholics' body breaks down alcohol differently from a non-alcoholic and the difference in metabolism is what differentiates between an alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
I have to agree with ya Iron, based on my own experience of course. I can "handle" one martini, or maybe two glasses of wine with a hefty dinner. If I go beyond that, I usually get very depressed and weepy...jezz what fun. If I don't get depressed while drinking (which I can do if I really space my drinks out) usually the next day I'll be depressed.
I have taken several college courses on alcoholism and chemical dependency, thinking I might go for a degree in counseling. I was taught (around 18 months ago) that women have less of the enzyme that helps metabolize alcohol than men. So in women, alcohol tends to go straighter into the blood system, especially as we age or abuse alcohol.
i was putting clothes in the dryer the other day and went to turn it on and it wouldn't start.
i couldn't figure out what was wrong since i had just taken some clothes out of the same dryer.
i looked down and noticed i hadn't closed the dryer door .
This happened to Makena, but it was my fault...
I finished the laundry and was setting piles that needed to go upstairs on the banister. I had a pile of my undewear on the banister when Makena walked in from work and set his jacket on the pile. Next morning he has a dentist apointment.
Apparently, one of my Victoria Secret thongs got stuck in the fleece lining of his jacket. When he hung up his jacket at the dentist's office a pair of panties falls to the floor. He didn't notice this, but when he came out of his appointment all the ladies in the office were giving him a "knowing" look and one got up the nerve to ask if he was missing anything??? He said no, I don't think so and then she shows him a pair of my underwear. He still denied it and came home telling me how the dental assistant was trying to "pick him up"...I realized what happened and had to bust his bubble. We laughed so hard over this one!!
Oh shoot, I guess someone was watching...oh well it happens.
i have seen several threads about how the elders are going to be going around asking people if they still consider themselves to be jehovah's witnesses.
this will undoubtedly result in multiple da announcements in the coming months.
i'm curious how the average jw will perceive this and respond to it.
I can't agree with the idea of lying because we were lied to. Personally, I won't lower myself to their level. Do you really want to become what you hate? If you do, how are you any better than they are?
Well, Stan, I mostly agree with your statement, but since leaving the wonderful world of totally black and white thinking, I now know there are times when as the jw's say "people don't deserve to kow the truth". Of course, right after my daughter died, and for about two years after, my statement wasn't a lie, I really felt that way. There must be something wrong with this particular area, if I can move somewhere else, I'll surely find true, loving jws. Jehovah will surely take into consideration all the horrible injustices that have happened to me, and will help me until I can find a loving hall.....
Well, I know better now, and I am not willing to live in hiding or be invisible.

JT I found it interesting that you said by DAing yourself you are giving up the future possibility of legal action...definately something to think about.
Here's my action plan...I have not attended the local hall for over two years. As some of you know, our daughter committed suicide after the elders met with her. They treated us like dogs afterwards, especially considering my hubby was an elder, I was a reg. pioneer and my daughter was a reg. pioneer.
If they contact us, which they haven't done since last memorial, I plan to lie through my teeth. I will say the reason I don't attend is that I am convinced there is not an ounce of Jah's spirit in the local area, as I witnessed first hand after my daughter's death. And the fact that another young brother took his own life after having disagreements with the same PO that made my daughter feel so worthless she took her life. I will say I know of areas where entire circuits were disbanded because of the lack of Jah's spirit. I cannot attend and risk my son's life in such an unloving area. I still believe Jah's spirit operates in other areas, and that I am waiting to move when my son finishes high school to one of those "areas" (lie, lie, lie).
I will tell them I pray every day that Jah will consider my 35+ years of faithful service and help me through until we can move. With a tear in my eye I will ask that they pray the same thing....

My suits and four raincoats (Pacific northwest) are in the guest room closet gathering dust. I have noticed several new consignment shops have opened up in my area, and I keep thinking I could make a few dollars off my old jw wear....but then I know perfectly well the local sisters probably stop by these consignment shops daily, and I can't stand the thought of one of them wearing my old clothes...guess goodwill will get them eventually.

My panic attacks start when I let myself dwell on how little control I have in my life...started after my daughter committed suicide...anyway, I've tried meds and didn't care for them. The one thing that has literally saved my life is exercise. I think it releases the pent up feelings, and gives me a sense of control over my own body and the endorphines help too. I do 30-45 minute sessions of aerobic exercise and then some weigh lifting. I feel so good, I am usually singing and "car dancing" all the way home from the gym. Hope you find something that works!

i went for a swim, having got baptised at orchard beach, new york.
i was disappointed that i didn't feel any sort of warm glow.. when my dad was baptised, it was at epsom circuit assembly, london.

Oh, to stay on topic, I didn't do much after the big dip...just tried to get myself presentable...I was totaly indoctrinated at that point..felt hollow and empty, but that wasn't uncommon for me back then. Totally alive and kickin and full of it now....
well, since chat is down, i'm forced to go outside and enjoy the sunsets.

I was having a touch of what you describe...mostly I miss a very small number of people I grew up with and had a lot of fond memories with.
Well, this last weekend I visited one of my best friends. It was so awful, I felt sick literally afterwards.
There was so much I wanted to say, but they are just such robots and so closed minded. My friend went on and on about home schooling her two kids (who by the way looked absolutely miserable) and how there aren't any kids their ages at the KH so they are mostly alone, and her son who is a talented musician can't play in the school orchestra because of patriotic songs...urgh!!!
That pretty much cured me.
