Happy B-day Englishman!! Astro-twin with the Slyman eh?
BTW, in the early 70's Sly worked out at the same club as Makena and I. He is shorter than you'd guess. I'm 5'6" and he didn't seem much taller.

To Applaud or Throw Up - Which?
by metatron ini pointed out the evidence that the society is sneaking away from.
the blood issue to a 'loyal' relative.. she replied "well, that's good then, right?".
sometimes it just takes your breath away!.

Well, in my 35+ year affiliation with the cult, I heard the following response to "new light" that reversed jw positions where many were adversely affected:
"So what, if we suffered because of the organization being "over-zealous", what better reason to suffer?! It's better to suffer trying to do god's will, than not try at all...blah, blah, blah."
They will minimize the damage, and pat themselves on the back for being super martyrs. In my opinion, the die-hard cult members could have god come down and personally tell them they are full of it, and they will STILL find a way to put a positive spin on it.

May I add another thing to look forward to...going to her prom. My 15 year old went to his Jr. High prom, he was so handsome in his suit. On his way out the door he said "I'm so glad we are not jws anymore"!! Brought tears to my eyes...

How to Ruin Your Family and Children
by metatron in1. teach your children that everyone they know that isn't a witness.
- baby sitters, teachers, policemen, the kind old lady who gave.
them a dollar for ice cream - are wicked, led by satan and will.

You are right on meta!! I especially agree that number six, pretense, is extremely damaging. If I had taught my daughter the fine art of living a double life and how the huge loop hole of being reproved before all onlookers works (in other words hide what you are doing, or trust only others that are living secret lives)...she may still be alive today.

Does being called an 'apostate' upset you?
by wholewheat indo all of you ex-jehovah's witnesses get upset when you are called an apostate?
you all call each other apostates, so why should you all get upset if i call you apostates?
if you don't like being called 'apostate', what title would you prefer?

Sabine
Well, I've been called a nigger AND I've been called an apostate. I'd have to say, being called a nigger hurts far worst because the people that call me that never know me, they are just reacting to my skin color...something I can never "take off", and yet people think they know exactly what I'm all about. Those that have called me an apostate are reacting to my speaking against the elders or against certain policies and doctrines.
The conotation I disagree with in regard to being called an apostate is that I am going to try to chalenge someone's religious beliefs JUST SO I can convert them to my current religious belief...nothing could be further from the truth. I have asked jw friends that still talk to me what their definition of apostate is. Most answer that it's someone that not only talks agains the organization, but that actively recruits for a different religious belief system. Granted the few jw friends I still have are extremely liberal, I guess the R&F would say anyone that speaks against the borg. or the elders is an apostate...guilty as charged!!

Mulan could use some cyber hugs...
by Princess ini will spare you all the gory details until she is ready to post them.
my mom (mulan) is having trouble with my grandma again.
looks like this time she has finally burned her last available bridge and will be moving out.

Mak and I just got home and read this thread...we are so sorry (((Mulan)))! I have the highest respect and admiration for you for even trying to make this work. As you know, my mother is also very mentally ill (all my life) and after her reaction to our daughter's death, that was the last straw. I know how painful it is to have to emotionally and physically disconnect from your own mother.
We got some yummy goodies for tomorrow night, Mak and I are so looking forward to having you over. You and Dave are such loving, kind people...till then big hugs from both of us.

Jack was hil-ar-eee-ous in High Fidelity, that's the first time I saw him. He sings "Lets Get It On" in the end of the film, does a great job.

SUICIDE IN KH PARKING LOT
by Sabine inlast saturday, a former ministerial servant and pioneer committed suicide in the woodinville washington kingdom hall parking lot.
he was disfellowshipped several years ago, and according to the old sister that related the story to me today, he was depressed because no one would talk to him.
i don't know how i kept calm when she explained to me that "we couldn't talk to him...he was disfellowshipped.".

So far, I have been guided to a man who died on the correct date who was in his 30s, but I got the impression he was in his 20s, so either my impression is wrong or the person guiding me to the 30-ish man is wrong.
I had the incorrect impression that he was still in his 20s, but after talking to his mom and remembering that I met him when we first moved up here to the Seattle area, that was 14 years ago!! Time flies and as I get older, anyone younger than 40 seems like a "young person" to me. sorry if that threw you Megan. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
