Okay, you all sucked me into commenting....

I'm a georgeous dark skinned hispanic, my hubby is a georgeous strawberry blonde. When we announced our engagement, his dad, PO, said he wouldn't attend the wedding...stating pretty much the WTBS's comments. The congregation was split in half, but on the big day, everyone showed up...even dad-in-law.

28 years latter...we love each other more than ever. Have we faced a lot of racism? Not so much as we have faced envy and jealousy. The JW's were so jealous of our obvious happy union, and our outrageous chemistry. But that just backs up my theory that most prejudice is rooted in fear motivated jealousy. Hitler was afraid the Jews were going to "take over", and many whites are secretly afraid blacks are somehow physically/sexually superior.

Teejay, you were willing to put yourself in a position that many found unpopular when you were a dub right? Well, my love for my husband is worth any discomfort or struggle. If love isn't worth fighting for what is? As far as blacks and whites separating....what a cowardly, backward, f'd up thing to even contemplate!!!

for me, it's actually the book of job, which happens to be one of my favourite books.

the way job steadfastly maintains his innocence, and questions god, as well as rebuffs the three comforters (who proffer arguments along the lines of mordern apologist, although in this book they are "bad guys" ) made him my hero of sorts throughout most of the book.

if most people today questioned god the way he did, they would probably be condemned for it.

And love does not necessarily mean "affection." It means that although their actions toward YOU were despicable, you, though, should not let that dictate the kind of person YOU are: if you see them hungry, feed them; naked, cloth them; homeless, house them. And if you can't do that, then at least pray for them... for by doing so, you release YOURSELF... and heap fiery coals on their heads. For they will have judged... themselves.

Aguest, I agree with you up to the pray for them, fiery coals and judgement part. But my point is I came to this understanding on my own. The bible doesn't provide loop holes and special circumstance clauses when it makes arbritary statements. And most fundamental religions take the Bible literally.

Again, to stay on topic, my disagreement is with the Bible, certainly not God.

AGuest, your point is correct, but I was answering the Topic question "What part of the bible is most disturbing to you?"

I am not judging God based on what the bible says, I am rejecting the Bible's portrayal of God and showing in my comments how destructive it has been for man to take the Bible as God's infallible word. Seems like we agree on this one.

If I can add one more destructive bible teaching, "honor your father and your mother." What if your father is an alcoholic that beats you, sodomizes you and your mother stands by and does nothing. Just because you reproduce doesn't mean you are necessarily a person deserving honor!! I've had many years of guilt trying to honor a person that has demonstrated over and over again that they are totally unworthy of any type of honor...but I'm over it now!!!

Just my 2 cents, please don't be offended. I was a slave to the watchtower for over 35 years and lost my beautiful daugher to that cult...so that's where I'm coming from.

Since I haven't done much Bible reading since my daughter's death four years ago, I'm rusty on where the following "ideas" are in the bible, but I'll just list the offensive/destructive ideas...

1. God's love is totally conditional, if you don't follow all his rules (mostly inforced to prove he is the boss) you are deserving of death.

2. God cursed Cain, and his descendents who unfortunately are black. This has given all good christians just the excuse they need to perpetuate racism.

3. God had a choosen people...any parent dumb enough to admit one of his kids is his favorite is just asking for trouble....oh yeah, hence the whole middle east problem.

4. Men are superior to women, just under Jesus. This has only affected half the world's population adversely.

5. Spare the rod, spoil the child. God gives permission to beat the crap out of kids...great.

6. Your heart is treacherous, you are a good for nothing slave, etc. How can you love your neighbor as yourself when the bible teaches self loathing????

7. There is only one way to God's favor, all the other billions, tough!!!

I am so sorry to read your story, but am very grateful you have the tremendous courage and compassion to share it with us. It was such a pleasure to meet you in person and see the pics of your beautiful daughters and grandbabys. You do have a lot to live for!! I only suffered neglect and emotional abuse by my mother, but it's very hard for me to say I don't hate her...I greatly admire your attitude. Take care (((((sweetheart))))).

Totally happy in your marriage?

how many of you are totally, incredibly happy in your marriage?

how many of you feel that your spouse is your absolute soul mate and you couldn't even imagine your being married somebody else?

talking with the women at work, i'm surprised at how many are not totally happy.

I am extremely happy in my marriage. I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for my husband.

Makena is one of the most egoless, genuinely kind, generous people I've ever met. He is extremely intelligent, tallented in music and art. If I'm cooking dinner when he get's home from work, he automatically jumps in and helps (many times I'll say no, you sit down and rest). He has a tremendous work ethic and willingly pitches in anykind of housework that needs to be done. He has no desire to control me in any way. He tells me I'm smart, beautiful, sexy and that he loves me everyday!! Someone pinch me!!!

Crystal, I read a very good book last month...Prozac Nation. I have dealt with depression on and off most of my life. But after reading that book, wow clinical depression is nothing anyone would choose.

"Girls just wanna have fun"

I was really robbed of my childhood, not only by my affiliation with the jw cult, but by being raised by a single mom with major depression/mental illness. Now I try to be childlike as much as possible. I dance as much as possible, laugh, and "play". BTW, this attitude really pisses some people off, they give me that look "what's she so happy about"....

I listen to Dr. Laura for a few years before she became an observant Jew. I like her stance on putting the welfare and needs of children FIRST. I'm amazed and outraged how so many parents are willing to completely destroy the lives of their children over their own SELFISH wants.

Same here Andee, I used to enjoy her show years ago. A few years ago Dr. Laura's former boyfriend posted nude pics of her on the internet. It was quite a scandal...hehehe.

The radio personality Tom Lykis (sp?) really tears into her from time to time on his show, it's hysterical.
