i currently am a jw and my parents are too.they seem either confused or dislike it when i raise questions and recently, when i questioned them about 1925 and 1975, i've been told it's changed due to "new light.
" i don't remember nor do i have very much knowledge of "new light.".
this "new light" just dosen't sit with me and neither do the false prophecies.new light first of all, breaks a scripture in deut.
Listener said: "Ask them where the old light came from - was it God or the GB? If they say God then we know God cannot lie. If they say the GB and they are imperfect men then you can work in the circular and point out that if the old light wasn't from God then there is no reason to believe the new light is either. "

but through it all i never bought the whole truth idea 100%.
no matter what it was, meeting, service, assemblies, i just couldn't wait for it to end.
A couple of years ago when the WT started harping about the dangers of porn, my wife told me she didn't see any problems if a married couple wanted to view it together. Needless to say, after I resumed my composure, I had to explain why the society was discussing this topic. She is not a born-in and being somewhat older, her view of what constitutes porn is probably a bit different than what is available today. Now that I look back, I should have just kept my mouth shut, nodded in agreement, and downloaded some soft-core stuff for us to watch together. Talk about missed opportunity!

On a similar note, I wonder how many got baptized without making the personal dedication first (like me)? Looking back now, I really wonder wtf I was doing/thinking. Why would you sign up for something that like that, if you weren't 100% on-board?

That last book they considered/are considering at the 'book study' was the final nail in the coffin for me. I'm suprised I didn't spontaneously explode during one of the 'discussions'! It would probably only serve as proof that I was an evil apostate....
funny convo my wife had, an old friend called who connected with her on fb.
i was messing around in the kitchen when i hear my wife say jovially but forcefully "oh i dont go anymore cause my husband says its a cult!!!'.
seams she was on the phone with a fence sitter she grew up with but that statement was amazing lol.
Wow. So maybe I should try the 'direct' approach instead of beating around the bush.
Or maybe ask her what constitutes a cult. Then we could look it up online and compare what experts say constitutes a cult versus our experience with the WT.

in fact, i recently created a spreadsheet and documented how many hours i spent in total per week.
it's so depressing.

hi all, i'm a long time lurker, ready to join in and add my two cents worth now and then!
i was in the religion for 25 years, out now for 8, along with my husband, daughter, and son!
i would have to say pretty much the whole time i was in i didnt want to be, pretty much "dreaded" all aspects of it, meetings, service, assemblies, and talks, i hated talks, man o man would i be grouchy the whole week i had a scheduled talk.. we didnt have much family in, but lots of friends and many jw employees, pretty much lost all that, down to just one jw employee left(thats a good thing).
Welcome! New here too (30+ years in, no meeting for 3 months = just getting started). Thankfully, my son got out on his own 10 or so years ago. He moved to another area and just drifted away. I begged him not to get baptized. Then he was a pioneer for a year or two. I should have acted on my doubts a long time ago. We are still talking, but I don't think he knows I am out. He always knew I was just going thru the motions.
I agree with what 00DAD said. We need to encourage more lurkers to get off the fence. So many lives and family bonds ruined.
we had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.
Wow. Sorry we had to lose the original diary. I'm still looking for the spark to help my wife come to the same conclusion.
On a plus note, she did not go to the meeting tonight. She took some apples to our neighbor for her horses.
They are having a few drinks. Her husband is away on business. Apparently, there is life outside the Borg.
1. sundays after field service: poker & cigars!!.
2. plural wives are now allowed (but, only pretty young ones!).
3. special silk robes for elders (and maybe fancy headgear).
