And I suspect like their column 'Frequent Questions from Readers' this is just more of the same: Frequent Answers to questions we wish someone (not people) would ask. But since they didn't ask, we feel we need to provide a response just in case. As faithful stewards of the word.

Carbon dating and the Global Flood - links needed
by wizzstick ini've been using the search function on the site to research this, but a lot of articles seem quite old and there have been some interesting developments in this field of late.. if you're not sure on what carbon dating is have a look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/radiocarbon_dating.
there's an interesting point made in the calibration methods section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/radiocarbon_dating#calibration_methods.
on developments in the last few years.. they highlight the discovery at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/lake_suigetsu and how it increased the calibration from 12,593 to 52,800 years.

Sorry, I added an edit after your response: Just curious when you suspect this flood took place?

Actually, yes, the Sumerian epics speak of a flood, but not a global flood. Have you read the Sumerian account from which the bible acount was cribbed?
And just out of curiousity, when do you think the incident described in the Sumerian account took place?

wizzstick, please don't tell me that you suspect there may have been a global flood in 2370BC as the WT asserts. Please. Forget Carbon dating, this is recent history. None of the civilizations in existence (for quite some time) at the time noticed a global flood if there was one. Maybe they didn't get the memo. Regards...

Data-Dog: if you are interested in going down that road, try some MJ first. If you can't handle that, go no further. IMHO, shrooms are the best. I would advise avoiding big-pharm. If you don't know where to get any of this stuff, ask the young people for help. It is interesting to read that LSD often helps severly depressed people, and that many of them report a significant spiritual event, even though they never do it again. Once was enough...
Just curious. How do people here feel about natural drugs in general? (MJ, shrooms, peyote, etc). I mean, (if you belive in a creator) who created it and for what purpose?

@Captain Blithering: I agree, might be hard to bring up before the convention, but we could certainly discuss it later that evening, right? We are supposed to review the day's program as a family. I will try to use Blondie's point that at least Paul was specific. This could be my best and last convention ever...

Slowly Awakening at the DC 2013
by breakfast of champions inso after the district convention was over, i asked my wife what her overall impression was.
she said, "maybe something has changed, or maybe it's your influence that i see things differently now, but a lot of those talks sounded more threatening than anything.
not loving, not really hopeful, just threatening.

So what kind of questions/points could I make on the way over to get her in the right frame of mind, more receptive to post convention discussions? She forced me to go to an English speaking convention this year (probably in an attempt to save me) but I want to try to use it to my advantage. Only attending Saturday and Sunday.

Excellent. The truth is the truth, right? It might hurt, but in the end, you have to be able to live with yourself. I think your post will inspire more of the lurkers to get off the fence. Thanks for being brave.

So, Whats the real reason JWs are no concessions open at the DC and are discouraged from supporting nearby vendors?
by BU2B inso ever since they discontinues the food service at the assemblies and dcs, jws have been "lovingly encouraged" to pack a light lunch to eat.
the secretary at the hall that i am held hostage in said during the service meeting that even a sub would be too heavy to eat, and that a light salad was the best option.
what do you fine people think is the real reason why, in the absence of food service, jws are told to not leave the building at lunch?

jgnat said: Then, paradoxically, everyone eats their own meal (no sharing).
Not only do most people not share their food, I don't recall much social interaction going on either. We were encouraged to get to know everyone around us. Right. It was mostly: eat in silence and then walk, or eat in silence and then sleep. So refreshing!
