Great story. Next time I come back to the states, we are going to hit the strip joints in your area, and you are paying.. Start saving! We should do well since I always get the - you look like Mark Harmon comment. I had to look it up after my last trip to the states because I had no idea who he was.

Do you think not having the book study in private homes has had much effect?
by truthseeker init's been a few years since the organization ended the book study arrangement in private homes.. gone was the last opportunity to have tea and biscuits and a natter with the friends afterwards.. do you think people regret losing the book study?
for some, it may have been the only time they were able to get some "associaton".

LongHairGal is on the right path. They should get rid of all meetings. That way, you won't be corrupted by unbelievers.. Simple. Problem solved.

According to WT rules, the virgin Mary and Jehovah are guilty of Por'neia!
by BU2B inaccording to wt tamud, if a jw does in-vitro fertilization, carries a surrogate child, uses a surrogate, and so forth then it is "por-neia".. the bible says that mary was a virgin when implanted with the embryo of jesus christ.
under the mosaic law adultery was punishable by death.
since mary was already engaged to joseph, if she was to sleep with another man it was the same as adultery in the eyes of the law.

Good catch. Sounds like something our contributor 'Processor' would do. Or SD7, he was good with this kind of material.
On the other hand, stop it !!! You are going to drive yourself crazy. I'm already there... Just get on with it....

What was your mild superpower?
by sparrowdown ini am in awe of the level of intelligence, wit and funnybones that alot of you posess.. which made me wonder, did you have a mild superpower while you were in?

Not sure if it qualifies as SP (even mild) but I managed to get thru it all with nobody being pissed-off at me. Same in the corporate world. Actually, now that I said that, it sounds like a weakness. Who knows...

I'm not trying to brag, but being an EXJW is awesome!!! Status Update-
by Coffee House Girl inhello jwn!
i don't get to check in here or comment as often as i would like because i have been working so hard at school...but i just have to share my news in hopes that newbees can see that taking the leap to enroll in higher education is worth it-.
i am graduating this spring with a bachelor degree in art history, minor anthropology...many people (including nonjw's have given me flack for choosing a "dead end" career path) but since leaving the watchtower organization's group-think mentality and "leaning on my own understanding" instead... i decided to say fuck everyone else's opinion...i am going to pursue my passion to work in a museum as a curator or archivist-.

Chat with Elder, how would you reply?
by awakening inhad a sit down chat with an elder who is aware of my doubts.
we were on the subject of new light, i was saying that if the org changes a teaching then the old teaching was wrong and cannot qualify as truth at the time it was taught, so where did the falsehood come from?.
his response was the gb is imperfect!!

Good stuff Island Man. Under normal circumstances, that would be enough to cause a few heads to explode.

Was There Anything A JW Said That Made You Raise Your Eyebrows?
by minimus inwe had an elderly pioneer/ms in our hall and he used to like to rattle the elders.
he liked using the "n" word in his comments.
he one time started to comment about the "ni##er pool" that he would observe among the poorer blacks.

Not so much raised an eyebrow, was probably a look more like someone had a pair of vise-grips clamped down on me (got you by the balls).
1. Often repeated comment about there being no rain before the flood of Noah.
2. Hebrew was the original language.

I get the love-bomb (we miss you so much) and the guilt-thing (your wife is so sad at the meetings without you) when I bump into them. The last time I was at a meeting, most of the folks were fine, but I got the cold-shoulder from the more self-righteous ones. Where's the love? WWJD?

International Conventions for 2014 - Landover, MD - What is an International Convention?
by insearchoftruth inhave been out of touch for a while, i see that there is an 'international' convention this year in landover, md (fed ex field) and there are no english conventions in either richmond or hampton, va. what is an 'international convention', is it merely a consolidation of all the other conventions meant to whip up some fervor amongst the masses?.

It used to mean among other things that you would have the honor of hosting (approved) delegates from other countries. So think, big group of happy, waving friends from South Korea - some sporting native garb. Probably won't be a lot of delegates travelling from Somalia or Chad.
