Complement a Poster

i usually find something that i dig in everybody's post around these parts.

but i'll single out some peeps in particular.

Okay, now see?? I knew I would forget some people...like Gwen and Free2Bme, to name two...and those aren't the only ones I haven't mentioned. Wendy, I agree with you, I almost always read entire threads and find it fascinating to learn what others have to say, different viewpoints and so on.
I find lately tho (hehe, I've only been here a couple of months!) that there is SO much to read...so er...sometimes I just read threads posted by people I know (hanging head in shame) and I'M SORRY!!! I'M SO SORRY!!! I swear I'll start reading it all, everything, no post will be left unread by me!!
As CPiolo said, everyone posting here contributes and here's a (((hug))) to all of you...thank you for making me think.

my experience

Welcome and thank you for sharing your experience with us. Wow...what you've gone through and yet you seem so cheerful and happy. My hat is off to you, to suffer the losses that you have and not let it beat you into the dirt.
I have found a great deal of support here as well as some very special friends...stick around and I think you will find this is true for you as well

There are so many people who make me laugh, make me cry, make me think, make me outraged...you name it, I've felt it on this board. And I love it!

Why DO they stay?

there is much discussion of the "dumbness" of those still in and the reason that they stay.. some of the reasons that i have seen are:.

they want everything in black and white.. they prefer to leave thinking to others.. they are scared to be shunned.. they are just ignorant souls who are on the "opium of the people".

they dont want others to think bad of them.. while i agree that there is no one single reason and that everyone is different, i feel that the real reason is a much deeper one.

Good post...I agree with your comments regarding that strong need to 'know' the future. I think that is one of the things that held me in for so long. That and the very real fear of losing every person I loved and everything that was important to me. When I left, I felt as though the very foundations of my entire existence had been shaken loose; it is a devastating thing to lose one's faith. But as has been pointed out, the WTS demands faith to an organization, and imposes incredibly harsh rules and punitive actions upon those who choose not to be of the 'faithful'.

Closer2fine...I can really relate to your post! My mother has been a Jdub for about 35 years now...my sister and I have talked about how easy it would be to completely shatter her faith...but we realize this would be a terrible unkindness to her...she has given up so much...both of her daughters and 4 grandchildren, all for the sake of the bORG. I think my mother would 'snap', as you said. At this point, she is probably much better off dying 'faithful'...sad, isn't it??

One year tomorrow

i have been disfellowshipped for one year tomorrow.

i have been alone through out this time and completely lost.

recently i decided to look up jw sites on the internet and found a moving story of a lady who had been through a similar experience to mine.

I'm so glad that you had the courage to share yourself with us. And yes, you made a great deal of sense. Many of us who post here have felt the pain of losing family to the bORG and so can relate to your concerns about your siblings. You say that you feel like you've deserted them but I think that you've set an example for them to follow in their own journeys. It can be very difficult to be the first one in a family to step outside of the 'box' and you've done it.
Please feel welcome to the board; stay and get to know us as we are looking forward to getting to know you.

A Quickie!

just to say hello to all who vsit this forum.. i would love to tell my life story sometime but there is so much to say that i dont know where to begin,but a few things about myself.. i left the borg mindset in 1995 as i would not surrender to the emotional blackmail shunning teqniques,and was told i had basically dissasociated myself,even though my last words were 'i wanted to follow god and christ not a religion' an announcement was made that i had dissassociated myself from the christian congregation,cheek,eh!.

i was born into a jw family in 1962,and most of my immediate family see me as a filthy apostate because they are indoctrinated, my hobbies are horses,ham radio and the net,.

when i have a chance i hope to post more,cheers for now

So glad that you are here...I have found this to be a wonderful community of people who have offered me a great deal of support. As Francoise mentioned, we are not without our resident er 'mascots' (good one Francoise! ) but even they have their place here.

Embarrasing Moments

just so certain ladies do not feel alone in cringedom i will confess my red-cheekers !.

i was a well-developed 15 yr old getting too volupteous for my school uniform ( ok too fat then) and the zip had bust on my only school skirt.

my mum replaced it using an old zip from another garment which happened to be quite a bit longer than a normal skirt zip.an unmarried brother came to visit one morning and was sat in our living room having a cuppa while i was frantically getting ready for school.

Ah Free....love these stories! And what a dear you are for sharing them with us! Last night when I posted, I honestly couldn't think of an embarrassing story of mine...but this morning I've thought of two so here goes:

(BEW, you reminded me of this one) When I was 18 or 19, our service meetings were on Friday nights and afterwards, half the congregation would go out for pizza and beer. I would always sit at a long table with many of the young people (read cute brothers!). Anyway, one night I was sitting across from a brother I kinda liked and he was teasing me, acting as though he was going to flick pepperoni on me...I jerked backwards to avoid it....and over I went, skirt flew up and my legs were in the air! Every person in the place saw it, and laughed so hard that no one helped me up either!!!! God, I was mortified...and oh, the jokes I had to put with from then on!
The other story took place when I was about 21...hubby and I went out of town to a party and had a bit too much to drink...in the car on the way to our hotel, we got frisky (nuff said ; at the hotel, the receptionist was looking at me very oddly as were the people we shared an elevator with and I just couldn't figure out why.....the next morning as we were preparing to leave, I could NOT find my pants!!!! OH HORROR!!! But surely...I hadn't been so drunk as to come in the night before with no pants on!!! There were a few truly awful moments before we finally found them...good thing too as there was no way I was showing my face outside that room if we hadn't!!!!

Do YOU know how to WAIT?

this is the title of an article in the sept 1, 2000 watchtower, which a jw brought to my door this morning.

my husband answered, and it was very apparent that the woman was brand new to door-to-door work, and her companion was encouraging her.

it was saturday "push the mags" day, and so hubby asked if she had any technical mags... he loves to play with them when they come to the door.

Hey Rcat,

Your post about messing with the dub's heads reminded me of the last Jdub visit I received...
I had lived in the same house for almost 10 years and many of the witnesses from my old hall knew where I lived...
One day the bell rang and I looked out to see a car parked in front of my house, and a sister I knew very well standing at my door. Now, I have been DA'd for several years and the witnesses pretty much steered clear of my house...so I was surprised to see her, as I knew that she knew that I knew that she knew I was DA'd , out of curiosity, I opened the door and she smiled...acted like she'd never seen me before and tried to hand me a brochure, saying Would you like your copy of (whatever it was)? So I gave her the same sweet fake smile and nicely said, Nope!
I had to laugh afterwards though as it was patently obvious they came specifically to my house...they weren't working my neighborhood that morning. All I can think tho, is that in her mind, she was doing me a kindness, giving me another chance so ter speak...
I would have spoken to her more had she not pretended not to know who I was...I guess that even when they're trying to show kindness, they just can't quite seem to get it right.
