What level of IQ does one have, to beleive " TRUTH " changes. ? or old "Light " old truths " New Light " new truths " ?

okay, i never went to university , or had a college education, though i`m damn sure that "truth" is "truth" and it never changes.. if you" beleived "something was the truth in the past and now found out it was not correct , you cant say it was an" old " truth ,it must have been wrong/false reasoning in the first place......so it was never really the truth.. sure you can be aware of a "new" truth something you never knew beforehand , though whether you knew it or not ,it has always been a truth.

example:the earth was the centre of the universe ,beleived as a truth.........that beleif was false , it was not an old truth.. if their was something you beleived before as true and you now find it wasnt true , then it was false / untrue .. their is no such thing as an "old truth " and a "new truth" that is apparently accepted by jehovahs witnesses .. if jehovahs witnesses were as honest as they profess , then they would acknowledge when they make adjustments to their beleifs/doctrines that they were wrong in their initial understanding of said scriptures instead of passing it off as old truths or new light.. i was a witness for 33 years before it became obvious something was just not right with this religion and it took another 10-12 years before i found this site , that set me free.

so i ask , is it an iq level ?

No truth does change. Phlogiston theory gave way to knowledge of oxygen. For most of us astrology gave way to astronomy. Alchemy gave way to chemistry. Natural philosophy gave us mathematics and geometry. In medicine antibiotics were a life-saving cure during World War 2 when they first started to be used. Now we know they destroy the friendly flora in the intestines and cause all sorts of problems if over used.

Truth does change because we are apes and it has taken us a heck of a long time to understand our planet and the cosmos and we are still learning. I heard a quiz-master on TV the other day say, 'what Pluto is no longer a planet, when did that happen?' When I was a child we had nine planets in the solar system, in fact in the known universe. Now we have eight but hundreds have been detected elsewhere in the galaxy.

I know you are talking about GB 'Truth' but you seemed to be so certain that truth never changes it bothered me.

A.G.M = W.T world in a nutshell ?

the 2013 a.g.m i think most on here would agree, was the epitome of a damp squib.. but i think it sums up what w.t world has now come down to, lots of hyperbole and hype, all the talk of it being "historic", the tickets only policy etc etc and then what does it amount to ?

as we say here in the u.k, "two things, not much, and sod-all.".

the poor r&f jw's have been getting very excited for weeks, they will convince themselves by the "wasn't that simply wonderful, proof of jehovah's speeding things up" type comment that their expectations have been fulfilled.. but in a few weeks, deep, deep down they will realise it was a load of fuss about nothing, and then the depression will hit them.. and that is what w.t world has become, lots of talk about "significant" things to look forward to, and they turn out to be about as significant, and noteworthy, as one of my farts during a particularly loud thunderstorm.. i do not know if the rnwt has changed the wording of prov 13v12, but the old rendering still holds true :.

Br. Loesch announced next year's Year Text as "Let your Kingdom come" and explained that this was appropriate for the 100th anniversary of Jesus' enthronment.

Thanks Apognophos. I find the above hilarious. Reminds me of the lead up to 1975 when the DCs were Divine Victory, Divine Sovereignty. Some friends in London Bethel said the next one should be called Divine Disappointment or Divine Anticlimax.

this is true everywhere but it seems especially true with the witnesses.

they seem to feel that since god forgives them, you should too, so you end up with these pathologically rude, crude people.. "get over it" is what my wife says if i tell her about some incident where i couldn't believe my ears.

but i have to remind myself that she is also like that.. but she's right, too, because who wants to spend the rest of their life as a victim?

The psychologist that I saw after leaving the cult spoke to me about this problem that hardly anyone seems to apologise. He said I should tell the person what I feel they have done wrong anyway even if I know they will never feel or say they are sorry. Something about it being good for us to let the person know what they have done so that we can then let it go.

As far as my family still in the cult I think they will die in it so no apologies for shunning will be forthcoming there. So I agree don't be a victim get on with our lives but for general things I think the psychologist was right.

I agree with Phizzy I already had a certain amount of CD for many years. That aweful 607 - 1914 prophecy drove me crazy. I actually felt embarrassed explaining why my whole way of life - the 1914 generation thing - was based on four scriptures all over the Bible. Calculating 2520 days was it? and then saying you have to count a 'day for a year', I felt ridiculous because I put myself in the householder's place. I sounded like I was talking drivel. Guess what, I was!

70wksfyrs I don't believe in god because I see more evidence for a random, blind beginning to the universe and life on earth than there is for a benevolent, omniscient, omnipotent being.

I don't know what the so-called spiritual need is in humans which I do acknowledge exists. Is it however just a need for answers to where did it all begin, what am I, what's the point? Or is it something else?

The fact that these questions are highlighted by the JW religion in much of their literature to draw people in, highlights that many care about the answers to these questions.

What the answers are, well if I said I knew I suppose I would be a cult!
