Awful car crash TV. Teenagers on vacation getting drunk having sex etc. Parents secretly watch. Then confront them at the end of the show. It turns out the parents of one of the girls are JWs! And they're just finding out what their daughter's really like! too funny!

Faders shunned now?
by Sammy Jenkis inhi all so my family had their c.a.
last weekend and my mother dropped this one on me, she'll now be treating me as a df'd person per info she received from a talk at the assembly.
apparently a fader should be treated as "bad association" given the fact they up and left the holy "truth" to splash around in vomit.. .

Reminds me of how I used to be. I remember backing off my best friend because she stopped comnig to meetings and going on FS because she was "depressed". I thought she was just trying to find excuses so to my shame I backed off to try and guilt her into reactivating and the friendship faded temorarily. Thankfully it didn't last long because I kept in touch ironically when she moved away. But I remember the judgemental attitude of myself and others.
I also have family members who have sour grapes about people who "play the system" - i.e. fade without Da ing or DF ing - and will ignore them.
Finally a fairly recent CO talk (within last 3 years) directly said to have nothing to do with those who have "fallen away" without being D/Fd or D/A if they were leading an immoral life..heartwarming.

ha ha Gymbob, how evil and mentally diseased
(I simply can't chance going to the hall. I will be pounced on, as the elders have been trying to get hold of me on the phone for weeks, as well as the occasional house call, which I have ignored)

How many Bible Students were preaching in 1919?
by Emery indoing some additonal research on the 1919 appointment.
they claim to be the only ones preaching at that time and i find it hard to believe that a few thousand russelites out weighed the global preaching work of christendom.
especially considering that what they were preaching from door to door at that time was false prophecy and now 95% abandoned.

I might be wrong but I didn't think there was a general requirement for bible students to preach back in 1919. Back then it was the colporteurs who did the work. Let the figures speak for themselves (sourced from A People For His Name, by Tony Wills)
Year/Peak Number of Colporteurs:
1914: "fewer"
1915: "fewer"
1916: 372
1917: 461
1918: 225
1919: 507
1920: 350
Contrary to Rutherford's later claims of there being a "practical silence" or that the work had "practically stopped" in 1918/19, the WT at the time acknowledged the war had "curtailed" the work but said "we are neither dismayed nor discouraged" (WT 12/15/18)

JW's planning for retirement
by FirstLastName ini had an interesting discussion with a jw family member recently and he brought up his plans for retirement.
according to his age bracket, this will not be for another 20 years or so.
he plans to buy land, build a house, move the parents nearby.

I remember we had a CO visit a couple of years or so back that gave, in his talk, some kind of catch phrase - I wish I could remember it word for word - but basically it was something like, "plan as if Armageddon isn't going to come for a long time, but live as if it will come tomorrow."

Hey all
@Glander: yes I'm well into my second fade. I have been inactive for over a year now. Was going to meetings irregularly but went to my final meeting (of my own congregation) back in May. I don't want to go on Sunday because I have been dodging the shepherding visits and phone calls etc since then - could set me back. When I visit family I do go to their meeting with them. But my mum, at least, knows my views as I have had conversations with her. She might have kept quiet about it though.
@Stealth: Distraction techniques! I like your style. Good suggestion, though I'm not sure I can pull it off. My sis is an uber dub (has been reg poineering for all her working age life, went to pioneer school for the second time a year or two ago etc.) Besides she loves my congregation and will be looking forward to catching up with the friends she has made there. I will see how it goes it could work.
@crazyguy: yes there is that curious, masochistic part of me that wants to go to see how the new light's going down....

Please wish me luck ! :)
