They certainly don't mind accepting charity, even from religious organisations. In fact, the elders even once directed me to Presbyterian Social Services for assistance. Cheeky buggers!

by longgone ini was wondering if anyone is aware of the jw’s in general being involved financially and/or as volunteers in charity organizations?
i was a born in jw for 56 years and left in 2016. as far as i remember there was never any encouragement to help in the community in any way.

But the basic question is did or did not Zelensky say what he's quoted as saying.
It would seem that Zelensky did indeed make that appeal for calm:
Ukraine's leaders appeal for calm and say attack is not imminent - as Russia makes combat readiness inspections near border (yahoo.com) (As reported by SkyNews)
Ukraine Appeals for Calm, Says Russian Invasion Not Imminent (ntd.com)
Ukraine Appeals for Calm, Says Russian Invasion Not Imminent (ntd.com)
As FullTimeStudent correctly observed, though, you wouldn't get that impression from reading our major daily newspapers!

Suit, shirt and tie
by JoenB75 ini always hated suit, shirt and tie and wondered why men of all walks of life should be forced to wear these uncomfortable clothes and spend the money on them.
it should be remembered some of the worst people wear them, like creepy joe, putin, dirty corrupt frauds in business, law etc.
and of course al capone.

The last two times I have worn a suit was to a funeral, and it was noteworthy that I was the only person there doing so. Point taken! From now onwards, the bloody thing will be mothballed.

With the result being that Ukraine ends up placed in a similar situation to where Finland was during the Cold War.
ie. Having full autonomy over its internal affairs, but answerable to Russia when it comes to all external matters.

During WWII, the WTS in Australia was heavily -almost exclusively- involved in commercial activities. These included “Kingdom Farms”, one of which was located at Oxley, in Queensland. (This property was also immediately adjacent to the Archerfield Aerodrome, which was used during the war as an airbase. That fact helped fuel rumours that the JWs were “German spies”).
In addition to such as neutrality-violating activities as laundering army uniforms, the WTS also operated canteens for military personnel. According to some who were “in the truth” during those years, such commercial activities even went as far as printing what today would be classed as “soft porn” literature - no doubt intended for a military clientele.
The only moral compass in place during those years appeared to be “ Anything to make a quid”.

Why is it when one person attack you on a forum thread eveyone likes to pile on?
by mickbobcat ini have noticed this on many many forums.
so i don't have this forum in mind for this topic.
so you may have noticed this also, but many times on threads once someone does an attack or a negative comment about someone, or the way they write or anything else on the thread, everyone else seems to just pile on by reaction not thought.

Tennis Controversy in Australia
by smiddy3 inapr 20, 2020. novak djokovic sparks a backlash after publicly opposing the covid-19 vaccine.
he says: “personally, i am opposed to vaccination, and i wouldn’t want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel.”.
asked by sky news australia anchor danica de giorgio why djokovic was granted the visa in the first place, the home affairs minister said: “they’re entirely separate processes”.. “to gain entry to australia you need both – you actually need the visa, which is determined quite separately, and then you have to meet the entry requirements,” she said.. “i know that people are putting the two issues together, but the visa application process and the granting of a visa is very separate to the additional entry requirements that every traveller needs to meet to be able to enter australia.”.

Anon,
I can't comment on what the situation may be in other countries. Here, though, when the term "fully vaccinated" is used, it means having received both vaccine shots. Period!
Booster shots have only just become available in this country, so are unlikely yet to be included in the statistics re. Hospitalisation and / or ICU admissions.

Vidqun,
Did you actually read that article which you posted from Science magazine?
The conclusion which that team of researchers reached is quite different from yours, as is shown by their summary (Quoted below in full, but with italics added).
While noting that the COVID-19 vaccines were less effective at preventing infection from the Delta variant, these remain highly effective in preventing death amongst those infected. Also - and most noteworthy - these researchers state that their findings support the conclusion that, to quote vaccines remain the most important tool to prevent infection and death.
This is rather different from the point of view that you are presenting, and it seems rather strange that you are quoting this report to support your case? (This research team certainly did not draw the conclusion that COVID-19 vaccines are totally ineffective and not worth the while).
In summary, although vaccination remains protective against SARS-CoV-2 infection, protection waned as the Delta variant emerged in the U.S., and this decline did not differ by age. The Janssen vaccine showed the greatest decline in VE-I. Breakthrough infections were not benign as vaccinated persons and who were subsequently infected had a higher risk of death compared to vaccinated persons who remained infection-free. Importantly, vaccination still provided protection against death in infected persons, and this benefit was observed for the Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Janssen vaccines during the Delta surge, although the benefit was greater for Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech compared to Janssen vaccines. Our findings support the conclusion that COVID-19 vaccines remain the most important tool to prevent infection and death. Vaccines should be accompanied by additional measures for both vaccinated and unvaccinated persons, including masking, hand washing, and physical distancing. It is essential to implement public health interventions, such as strategic testing for control of outbreaks, vaccine passports, employment-based vaccine mandates, vaccination campaigns for eligible children as well as adults, and consistent messaging from public health leadership in the face of increased risk of infection due to the Delta and other emerging variants.

No vaccine is 100% effective, and even 5% of a very large number still results in a significant quantity. However, 95% of something is surely much to be preferred over 100% of nothing!
Also, most vaccines require a course of injections to complete, followed by booster shots (polio and tetanus come immediately to mind here). It would in fact be a rather unusual one which only requires a single dose - typhoid is the only vaccine that I know of which is administered like that. This, though, doesn’t mean a vaccine is ineffective.
