Biblical, Christian "Morals"

many people seem to think that moral end ethics would be unknown if it werent for the bible.

the moral of the bible when examined thoroughly is to say the least, extremely relative.

looking at the hebrew scriptures it becomes clear that moral and law was pretty much a tribal and ethnic phenomenon.

So tell us Norm, who's morals shall we live by? Lets set the Bible aside. Many people today do not give a sqaut about what the Bible says or even know what it says. What one considers moral, another may think it immoral. I know some atheist (I am not atheist) that call black people niggers and homosexuals fags and homos. Many of these could not qoute a scripture or verse if their life depended on it.

Maybe their morals are ones we should all live by. Just think, no more blacks and homosexuals to downgrade the way of life for all of us moral people.

People make choices for what way of life they choose to live and how they think about others. With some the Bible comes into play, with others it does not. Just because the Bible has what appears to you to be immoral behavior, does not mean that people that try to live their lives accepting the Bible are going to go out and kill, sacrifice, steal etc.

Does the word first-born in the Bible necessarily mean the first one who was born or created?

Read Psalms 89:27, it says David was the firstborn. (David was the last-born son of Jesse) God was not speaking of birth order but of rank above others to a preeminent position. The term firstborn in scripture is often used to signify priority in importance or rank, rather than actual birth order.

Col 1:18 identifies Christ as "the head" and "the first-born" and says that this is for the purpose "that in everything he might be pre-eminent" (RSV)

Genesis 1:5 And God began calling the light Day, but the darkness he called Night. And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, a first day.(NWT)

I am sure spinner will put a spin on this verse to prove that Jesus is also called "DAY" and Satan is called "evening".

The problem I see with saying Jesus is the light in verse 3, is that it does not fit the context of the rest of the chapter.

i have just begun recently to meet with a jw to study the bible and various material that i have been given.

i have no prior religous background and have only started to read the bible about 3 mo ago.

after reading a lot of the posts i have noticed a lot of people talking about how when they started to question jw beliefs, they were shunned.

I would suggest you getting informed as much as possible before asking any questions or studying with the Witnesses. The questions will come with knowledge and information.

Witnesses can be very tactfull and convincing, they are trained to be.
If you are not prepared to deal with them, you just may end up one if you are not informed.

One question you may ask is why does the organization not recognize the original teachings of the founder Charles Taze Russell?

Why don't they study the books written by Russell that were supposed to be a guide to understanding the Bible?

Why did the second president Joseph Rutherford condemn the pyramid teachings of Russell as being from Satan? WT 11/15/1928 page 341 and 344

Can you trust an organization that taught from Satans Bible for over 50 years? WT 11/15/1928 page 344

I have hundreds of questions, but I would suggest getting informed before continueing your study.

The way I see it, light was one of God's creations, darkness, being negative, was not. The creation of light is mentionmed first, since the succession of days and nights is to be the frame in which the work of creation takes place.

God does not need the sun to produce light.

The fact that your father acknowledges that the Holy Spirit and the directing of the organization are what is said when one is baptized, shows that you are following not just the HS but a man made organization that has made several mistakes. Does the HS mislead and make mistakes, change major teachings that affected peoples lives adversely, as well as false prophetic blunders?

Ask yourself, what kind of spirit directs the WT organization?

what if the borg sent out a letter adressed to all congregations in the united states and it said this.. dear brothers:.

the faithfull and discreet slave in which you know is directed by jehovahs holy spirit has directed us to request that you immediatley begin to rid yourself of any and all unnecessary material items, and we are requesting that all moneys from the sell of these items be sent to the wbts as soon as possible.. after you rid yourself of these burdens it should be no problem for all of the brotherhood to begin the full time preaching work as regular pioneers.

you can rest assured that jehovah will provide for all of your needs since you are putting his kingdom first.. best wishes from your fellow slaves at the borg.. .

These are a few phrases that active JWs used when I was still in the borg and going door to door with them. I believe many would follow suit but as Yerusalyim said, many would fake it. Sad to be so controlled by men.

a significant number of former jehovah's witnesses come out of the watchtower still believing the bible and considering themselves christians.

most coming out are in a serious state of bewilderment, and they look intently and sincerely for something to fill the huge void of lost religion, lost family and friends, and lost fellowship.

they seek some viable spiritual association with others of like mind while at the same time having become very wary of any organized religion.. what is it that eventually draws so many of us (not me) to agnosticism or atheism?

today, i did a couple of things that i never would've or could've done had i remained a jw.

first of all, i spent the first half of my day being a promotional model for snapple.

my job: smiling, looking cute, and handing out free snapple drinks.

Let us know if you make it to the actual TV program. I enjoy watching the Weakest Link. I heard that mean old lady Mistress Ann is not really mean at all. It is just the part she plays. There was a program where she hugged one of the contestants after the show and they had to do retake because it was caught on camera.
