The rapture didn't come on May 21, 2011.
We know when the Great Tribulation™ is going to start. We aren't at liberty to tell you exactly when, because you'll all go apeshit and start selling your houses and quitting your jobs (again), but we can tell you that it is Real Soon Now™. In fact, if you recall, we used to say that Armageddon™ is Right Around The Corner™, but now we can say, with complete confidence, that we've turned that corner, and now Armageddon™ is right in front of us!!
Or something to that effect.
I'm guessing he's standing in the middle of a stone circle somewhere.

Seems kind of pointless to go this much trouble to plan District Conventions™ if the rapture is going to happen today. Won't they be embarrassed when everyone else gets raptured and they get left behind!
this year alone, three wifes in my congo left their husband and da with jws (all of them have kids).
similar cases are seen in nearby congos.
its striking that far more women leave their man and the jws then man do.. i would like to know, whether this observation can be made in your area too.
Many more 30-something women packing their bags and moving on to something "better" than there are men doing so.
I agree. The WTS offers males position and power within a congregation, even if it is only of the big-fish-in-the-small-pond variety. What do they offer women? Absolutely nothing. Intelligent, well-read women, some of whom are accustomed to leadership roles in their jobs, and who are accustomed to being treated respectfully as EQUALS, must not find it easy to tolerate the constant pressure within the JWs to dumb down and be Submissive™ and In Subjection™ so that the men can shine. That kind of bull$h!t used to drive me up the wall when I was a JW in good standing, but even moreso when I made up my mind to go to college. In my line of work, I have a lot of responsibility and accountability and I think I handle it very well. What is lacking within the WTS hierarchy is accountability - too many window cleaners and janitors with made-up responsibilities and the illusion of power, who have little-to-no accountability.
not to go to my sister's high school graduation.
it's for home-schooled kids and will be at the la quinta.
so there aren't going to be many people there.
That's what you were "told", what your sister said, with your parents' coaching.
Is that how your sister actually feels? I'd find out before scratching the event off your calendar. For all you know, she's being told that you probably won't show up because you don't give a crap about your family anymore.
That's happened to me. JW relatives manipulating everyone around them to create a rift and drive a wedge between them. Don' t let that happen to you and your sister.

From the titles of some of the talks, it sounds like there's going to be a lot of damage control going on.

Three days of my life I won't ever get back. Thanks for reminding me of what I won't be enduring.
when you claim that some impossible account from the bible is true are you doing so because of evidence and honest reasons or simply because you want it to be true?
if the evidence your claim is based upon ends up being proven false would you stop making the claim?.
if your claim is based only on wishful thinking then you are being dishonest with yourself.

Hi nic!
Quite some time ago, I noticed that the definition of "faith" that we learned as JWs was eerily similar to the definition of "delusion".
Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. ~ Hebrews 11:1, NWT.
Delusion: a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self that is maintained despite indisputable evidence to the contrary. Delusion implies an inability to distinguish between what is real and what only seems to be real, often as the result of a disordered state of mind. ~ Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, retrieved 2011-05-18.
To me, that kind of faith, one that ignores "indisputable evidence to the contrary", represents not just ignorance as you suggest, but willful ignorance, and the stubborn refusal to consider actual evidence and reality. It's not merely a matter of the individual not having access to the information or evidence that refutes their false beliefs - it's the sticking-fingers-in-the-ears-and-la-la-la-la-I-can't-hear-you digging in of the heels and refusing to even consider an evidence-based alternative to their false reality. It's a childish insistence on keeping a security blanket that they should have long ago outgrown.
