I'm not sure my wife will ever understand me
by Star tiger insince leaving the witness mentality, i've coming onto the jw.net forum trying to work through ideas and indoctrination of the cult, she will never understand the lack of birthdays and christmas and all the brain washing that has occured during my formative years, she is a wonderful woman who did not have a religious upbringing and is totally up for new ideas, however she finds it a problem that i cannot leave it in the past.. i wish i had a reset button to immediately forget all the stupid ideas that i was brought up with, i'm glad i read crisis of conscience and after that the age of reason.. i still have programs that are running subconsciously that are affecting me, the what if's and the fact that if i rely on my on understanding prove wrong!.
any tips on how to get out of this bad jw mindset!.

Give yourself some time. Perhaps you just need to gradually acclimate to new things like birthdays and holidays before you can really start enjoying them.
It's kind of like trying a new style of food - you may need to acquire a taste for certain flavors or be exposed to it several times before you start enjoying it.

I don't care whether god exists or not. I'm not going to change who I am or how I live my life whether or not there is a god (which I highly doubt, but whatever). I don't need the so-called rewards offered in whatever so-called holy book you care to shove in my face to be a good, decent person. I don't need the threat of eternal damnation, hellfire or whatever other horrible things may await described in those same so-called holy books to avoid doing harm to others.
Tell me this Stop The Tears: Why does god need to be worshiped? More to the point, why does god need to be worshiped by poor lil insignificant me? Is god so insecure that he requires the attention and worship of every human being on the planet (but not from animals, birds, or other living things, it seems) that he would single me out for damnation if I don't? Isn't that kind of like mugging a homeless person who has absolutely nothing of value to offer the mugger?
Okay, I'm done. I'm outta here. I temporarily forgot my internet manners against feeding the trolls.

I read about this in Christopher Hitchens' book God Is Not Great (How Religion Poisons Everything) several years ago. I'm appalled that this practice has been allowed to continue, and that the offending Rabbi has not been reported to the Department of Public Health for wilfully transmitting an STI or arrested for endangering the health of newborns and child sexual abuse.
What pissed me off was the decision that the parents' and Rabbis' "freedom of religion" trumped the children's right to not be sexually abused or have a potentially fatal disease transmitted to them.

among the ammenities are a sand volley ball court, two tennis courts and a full basketball court.... there's also parking garages and picnic areas for visitors.... by the way, not sure exactly what this is but you'll notice a shaded area labelled "undergound chamber"... interesting.... (i wonder if moving out to the middle of nowhere was intended to keep bethelites from sneaking out at night and going to the liquor store... just saying).

Following that logic, they should have no problem with JWs building new homes, buying new cars, etc. But that isn't the case, is it?
FWIW, that's the question I would ask JWs who brag about these new HQ, to show the hypocrisy in its purest form.

They don't want us to have success, because they want to be able to point at us and say to their children: "This is what happens when you Leave The Truth™" - they want us to be drug addicts, alcoholics, criminals, living on skid-row, psychotic, etc. to scare their kids off of Leaving The Truth™.
If we're happy, successful, in good relationships, well-adjusted, doing well financially, how can that possibly scare their kids and keep them in line?

Banks never show the tellers what counterfeit money looks like? Its truly a lie!
by life is to short ini have been meaning to post this for awhile and i just came across this example yet again with a jw it is so frustrating because it is just not true!.
i so clearly remember assemblies and talks where this point was brought out over and over, that banks teach their teller only what real money looks like so they will know the feel and touch of it, that banks never give their telles counterfeit but only real money so then when a counterfeit comes through they can catch it easily because they know what the real thing looks like so well.
it is even in the bible teach book that was printed in 2005.. none of it is true.. when my husband and i left bethel in 1994 i was working at two jobs all the time to try to make it, finally i got a job as a bank teller.
