The union [local bargaining unit] sent a huge gift basket full of sweets and treats to each unit in the hospital, plus the union's head office sent out keychain flashlights with their last newsletter.
The hospital usually provides coffee coupons from the cafeteria for Nurses' Week, but I haven't seen any yet. Plus the CEO usually goes around with the one of the medical directors on the evening shift to each unit, handing out cookies and tea or coffee to the nurses. I'll find out if that's happening tomorrow when I'm working nights.
There was a skills fair today that was pretty interesting. Various units and committees made poster presentations of initiatives they've been working on, including 2 from the NICU where I work.
There's a Nurses' Week Luncheon on Friday. Usually I'll attend if I'm not working or sleeping. You pay $10 for your ticket and the union sponsors the rest. Every time I've gone it's been an amazing buffet lunch. I have to skip this year because I'm coming off night shift and will be dead to the world. The units will bring in extra staff to cover nurses who want to go to the Luncheon, and the hospital provides shuttle bus service to the venue where it's being held.
They've organized a volleyball tournament for 20 teams from various units for tomorrow night. Again... I'll be working, so can't even go and cheer for my team.

How would you refute . . . ?
by leaving_quietly ini have an issue with preaching.
specifically, going door to door, talking to people who, for the most part, have no desire whatsoever to hear what i have to say.
more specifically, being required to do so as a means of salvation.

1 After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest. 3 Go forth. Look! I am sending YOU forth as lambs in among wolves. 4 Do not carry a purse, nor a food pouch, nor sandals, and do not embrace anybody in greeting along the road. 5 Wherever YOU enter into a house say first, ‘May this house have peace.’ 6 And if a friend of peace is there, YOUR peace will rest upon him. But if there is not, it will turn back to YOU . 7 So stay in that house, eating and drinking the things they provide, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not be transferring from house to house. ~ Luke 10:1-7, NWT

Atheists! Would like your suggestion..
by umadevi inhi friends, i have been reading threads on atheism and how they see life from their point of view.
i must admit some of the points that you (atheists) put forth have given me something to think about.
i still have faith in god but let's say if i would like to do a research on atheism, where should i start?

Can We Be Good Without God?, by Robert Buckman
Loved this book as well, because it dispells the myth that being atheist means being a morally bankrupt, selfish malcontent.
Another suggestion would be to watch some of Pat Condell's videos on YouTube. For example:
What Do I Believe?
What Have I Got Against Religion?

The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins
By the time I read this book, I was already atheist. The only problem was that I didn't really know how to articulate why. Sure, I could point out atrocities - by our modern standards - in the bible that were supposed to be god's way of doing things. It was easy to make the leap that based on our current understanding, the god of the bible was a reflection of perceptions that prevailed at the time of writing.
What I liked about The God Delusion was how Dawkins establishes that to be atheist is to not be constrained by the limits that religion places on one's thoughts and emotions. That there's nothing to be ashamed of in not believing in god or a higher power, etc. He sets out in the introduction that his aim in writing the book is "consciousness raising" regarding what atheism is and what it isn't.
If you like audiobooks, there is a version on audible.com that is read by Dawkins himself. I found that extremely helpful with the audio version because he reads it with emphasis where he means it to be, which can't always be relied upon by other narrators.

Why did Satan want to kill Jesus?
by FaithfulBrother inwhy would satan have wanted to kill jesus if jesus' death would defeat satan and save mankind?
why would satan enter judas at the last supper and get judas to betray jesus, leading him to his death, if this death is what defeated satan?.

7 Governing Body Members = 21 Condo Apartments ?
by Alfred ina few years ago, a bethelite mentioned to me that each gb member has an apartment in patterson, walkhill and brooklyn... a total of 21 condos.... now, assuming this is true, i'd like to make an extremely conservative estimate of these condos.... if each condo is worth only $250,000 us, that's still a total of $5.25 million.
assuming the furnishings are worth on $50,000 for each apartment, that's another $1.05 million.
add to that number their vehicles (worth roughly $30k), that's another $630k... all told, we're looking at a number well over $7 million (by this conservative estimate).... any ex-bethelites care to shed some light on this subject?

While they may not live in the lap of luxury, they are living off the generosity and gullibility of the people they've lied to. If it were any enterprise other than religion, they would be in prison for fraud, where they would also have free housing and three squares a day.
