  i am sure most of you miss the sense of security regarding the future that the organisation offers- the certainty of everlasting life in the paradise earth, being healed and the confidence that you will definitely see your loved ones again if you remained faithful.

  but why did you pursue a course of life that had suddenly turned everything into a fable?.

  Male circumcision is NOT anything LIKE female circumcision

  I wasn't discussing the physical pros or cons - we were talking strictly about religiously-based beliefs that male and/or female circumcision was a necessary / required religious practice to ensure an individual's acceptance by the religious community to which their parents belong, and the fact that the practice is usually inflicted upon infants and children who have not made up their minds as to their religious affiliation and whether or not they consent to the surgical removal of body parts due to their parents' religious inclinations.

  God would never have insisted on it in the Old Testament.

  That only applies if you believe in god. However, that statement leads me to ask you this: Why would God™ Create™ man Perfectly™ In His Image™, and then expect them to remove part of the human form that was Perfectly™ Created™?

  Well if they behaved themselves - circumcised or not - the way the God™ of the Old Testament wanted them to behave - celibate until marriage and monogamous until they die - then STDs, HPV, penile cancer and UTIs would not be an issue, now would they??

Not that a gentleman would know the difference if he had been circumcised as an infant, nor would he have a measure of the degree of "fun" he is lacking during sexual activity, having been circumcised as an infant....

  Marijuana

  does anybody know the jw reasoning why using mind-altering depression and schizophrenia medication are okay but marijuana is not?

  okay i could see saying not to use marijuana because it is currently illegal in the us but what if it were legal?

  there are lots of health benefits for marijuana.

  We aren't as ... ummm .... "accepting" of mental illness symptoms like visual or auditory hallucinations as an indicator of someone being a prophet or a seer than they were in ancient times.

  We like our 'whackos' to be on psychotropic meds, ostensibly to help them become functional and productive members of society; however given that sometimes meds create other problems while "fixing" others, I sometimes wonder whether we medicate these folks because it helps us feel more comfortable around them.

  People have been using plant-based medicinals for thousands of years. The human race hasn't become extinct because of it.

  My take on why the WTS is so restrictive is that they prefer to keep their followers in any kind of pain and as much pain as possible, be it physical, emotional, mental, etc., because they want to be the sole purveyors of hope and happiness. If you can get relief from medicine - regardless of its source - their hold over you is threatened.

  By "sense of security", do you mean

  • the constant criticism of any personal decisions?
  • the incessant nagging to Do More™ for Jehovah the Organization™
  • the interminable reminders that we are worthless sinners and need Jehovah the Organization™ to have any hope for the future?
  • the unending fear that any innocent mistake on your part will be reported to the Elders™ who will hunt you down like a dog and make your life miserable, Disfellowship™ you and effectively terminate any so-called friendships and/or family relationships you may have with other JWs?

  If that's the case, I'm secure and furthermore deleriously HAPPY to remain "insecure" without the Organization™.

  Laws like this are what drives the practice underground.

  It will still be done, the people who want it done on religious grounds will claim that they are being persecuted and that their fundamental rights and freedoms are being violated, and will just do it in secret, or the families will take their children out of the jurisdiction to somewhere that it is permitted.

  Once it's done, it can't be undone.

  The World Health Organization ban on female circumcision has the same problems. Parents who want it done, will find someone to do it. The communities who want it done have networks that direct the families to practitioners, or they will take a "vacation" home and the girls come back with their lady-parts mutilated and sewn up.

  My fear is that outlawing the practice and driving religiously motivated people to find ways to circumvent the law will result in children being taken to unsanitary back-alley butchers, that will make matters worse in terms of potential for infection, visits to emergency rooms for excessive bleeding, and kidney damage when these kids are so swollen that they can't pee, not to mention that some parents will avoid going to doctors when there are problems post-procedure, because they are terrified that they will be reported to authorities.

  Unexpected call from my JW Sister - Unbelievable Hypocrisy!

  i posted a long experience earlier today along with an email letter from my sister.

  sent to me back in january informing me she was going to be shunning me.. had not heard a word from her for 6 months then.

  my sister called out of the blue one evening last month.

  My JW family does this too.

  They want to put on a good show for the non-JW relatives, you know, so they don't look like unreasonable fanatics that shun their own children!! If it weren't for the fact that my never-Baptized™ siblings chip in to get them an anniversary gift every year, I'd probably never hear from my parents apart from a perfunctory 2-paragraph email to say thanks for the gift and our JW lives are still as dull as dried up dog $h!t on crackers.

  Update on Alan Feuerbacher's heart attack that he had last Sunday

  alan'swife, julie, talked to the cardiologist this morning.

  the news about alan's heart is good.

  he described the heart attack as mild and said that although there is damage to the lower portion of his heart, the pumping action probably won't be affected much.
