  i'm five months into my slow fade and it's going so-so.

  my saturday morning was spent on a 3-mile jog and taking the kids to the park, which was great, but i'm still shuddering from the potential alternative.

  at the last meeting, an elderette literally blocked the exit to prevent my escape and said she just "noticed" that we were in the same field service group and would i like to work with her in service on saturday?

  I highly recommend that you take about 90 minutes to listen to the Secular Parenting podcast on The Thinking Atheist website. There are some extremely useful suggestions by Dale McGowan, who has written books about raising children to have critical thinking skills.

  The podcast aired last week and I thought it was just brilliant.

  Even if you aren't atheist, the author has some excellent advice for a parent whose beliefs change. He actually made the comment that former JWs face terrible consequences if their change in belief is discovered before they have developed strategies to strike an accord with the believing partner.

  i just realized i've basically lost the past 30 years of culture... listening to music, being rediscovered and discovering new music... political stuff happening around the world and yes, dammit, all that political stuff is important!!!

  tons of other things that, thanks to the wts's very diligent application of the i part of the bite method (information control) i am only beginning to find out or discover.... .

  I did live in La Belle Province during the FLQ crisis. I was 7 years old. I participated in a Field Service™ demonstration on the platform at the KH showing how to avoid the police by carrying a paper bag with some extra clothes in it, scurrying in to a public restroom and doing the old switcheroo to avoid detection.

  It scared the living crap out of me. I expected the police to bang down our door and throw us all in jail. I cried myself to sleep at night, I was so terrorized.

  F*ck them for robbing children of happy childhoods!

  Blood Ban Witch Hunt in Progress

  i have had my own power of attorney drawn up and sent to my non jw family to void out my old card.

  but now the society is pretty much forcing the issue on everyone with the emergency contact information (witchhunt) gathering drive every year and basically not taking a no for an answer fill it ot or get pulled in back.

  well i am giving them the big fu this time i filling their card out but listng my non jw family on it as the contact and then filling yet another power of attornty to void out their stupid card again..

  What about if you said "Look, we both know that it is illegal for you to coerce me in any manner regarding my personal medical decisions. Now stop it already. I don't want to give any judge an excuse to invalidate my DPA card, with all these Brothers™ and Sisters™ around who have also been bullied and harassed by the Elders™ into handing over a copy of a personal medical document, who would all testify to that fact. This is one of my fundamental rights and freedoms that you're stomping on, BROTHER. Now go away."

  maybe, you like some aspects of it and not others.. my favorite tv hates are 'news', and commercials.

  All the tripe shows on TLC (formerly known as The Learning Channel), and particularly all those stupid bridal competition shows, wedding dress drama, ProstaTots (Toddlers in Tiaras) and my biggest hate of all: Honey Boo Boo.

  Just a flash of a Honey Boo Boo commercial makes me feel bad for the brain cells I've killed in the process.

  What's Da Word On Weed, Mon?

  i come to this site as my one-stop-shopping guide to scandals and controversy within watchtowerland ( much of which is about as real as world of warcraft).

  i'm surprized i haven't read anything about marijuana and 'the truth".. weed is getting legalized all over the place and california, in particular, is loaded with whacked-out witnesses.

  since it can be prescribed as a medical treatment (here and there), i imagine the wts might have to do some doctrinal gymnastics to df folks for using it.

  so for a while now i have had some doubts and i have slowly started and had conversations with my wife.

  she has kind of conceded very minor points in our conversations, but what i have been seeing is that she is starting to use her brain.

  im not insulting my wife, but she is starting to think critically.

  Scully, I've read many reports of paedophile cases perpetrated by JW's. I don't recall a single one perpetrated by a JW while on the door-to-door ministry upon children of the household. I simply don't recall a single one. Perhaps you can remember one?

  You don't know how the psychology of paedophiles works. They are PREDATORS. They seek out vulnerable targets. They learn when their targets are most vulnerable. They groom their targets to feel safe around them, to accept and trust them. They are extremely patient. They don't introduce themselves and then immediately sexually assault a child. No, they take their time because the grooming and the "game" excites them - they know how they want their interaction with their target to turn out, but their target doesn't. They fantasize and meticulously plan how they are going to seduce their target, the same way a con artist scams people out of their money.

  The contact they make with families and children through the Door-to-Door Ministry™ is only the beginning, just like the JW recruitment (Studying the Bible™) process, grooming a target takes time and patience.

  So, I agree with you - the Door-to-Door Ministry™ is not the venue paedophiles use to commit child sexual abuse. It is part of their hunting grounds.

  If you were a gipsy and I wrote an article titled "Gipsy Paedophiles", would you not feel offended by the blanket statement, even if the content was discussing only a few cases among the ethnical group?

  Except the title of his article is "Pedophiles Knocking" not "JW Pedophiles".

  Personally, I think it only fair to the general public to make them aware that some JWs may be knocking on their doors with ulterior motives, other than the obvious one of trying to gain converts to their belief system.
