How do you deal with "toppers"? [one upmanship]
by compound complex inwhen in conversion, you sometimes get carried away and the talk becomes all about you.. then, you remember you're in a conversation, say you're sorry, and allow the other person to talk.
she goes on about what's happening in her life, you listen and ask some questions.
she tells you more and then shifts the dialogue back to you.

"the breeding act"???
So they seem to be saying that sexual relations are for breeding only now? Not just for married couples?? So Bethel couples are expected to refrain so as not to "breed"??

After 10 years do they give up on you (hoping so)
by Spiral ini think i read somewhere that if you have been inactive for ten years plus, the elders will not try to meet with you and corner you to get you back "in".
is that true?.
i just realized that mr. spiral and i haven't gone to meetings or reported time for over ten years.

They haven't bothered me (much), but I don't go poking the bear either, if you know what I mean.
Not even my JW relatives have made attempts to try to bring us back to the fold. Not once. It makes me wonder if they really don't believe the doctrines, or they don't give a $h!t about us enough to want us to be in Paradise™ with them. I have a few snappy retorts in my pocket if any JW relatives try to make a snide remark about atheism or creationism, but once I whip them out, they get Offended™ for insulting their beliefs (yet I'm not allowed to get offended when they insult my beliefs). That's a no-win scenario.

Hi Shirley
The wife did actually say that the Elders™ told the husband that he should shun her because she is an Apostate™ and that she is causing Spiritual Endangerment™ for him.
On another note:
I agree that CPS has cause to remove the children from the home. Robert is not the son's biological father, so why is he dealing with the bedwetting situation and not the mother? And why is the child so terrified about wetting the bed that he hides wet pyjamas and clothing, and goes to school smelling of urine? And why would he tell the school that Robert pushed him out the window, when he in fact jumped, if not to try to remove Robert from the home? People don't get reported to CPS 7 times for nothing. IMO, the child isn't lying, the acting out is a cry for help.
Tatiana (the mother) said she felt manipulated by Robert into joining the JWs. To me, there's something not right about Robert. There's no emotional response from him AT ALL.
BTW, I loved when Dr. Phil said that when a church tries to come between a husband and a wife and their children, IT'S TIME TO FIND ANOTHER CHURCH.

JWs and medical marijuana
by dogon inwhere do jws stand on the new medical marijuana?
i know they would df for use of it for recreation but if a dr in california gave it as a perscript, and it was legal to buy and use for medical use, has anyone ran into this yet?.
-
Scully
Funny how they get all freaked out over marijuana use for legitimate reasons because it "might" be criminal under federal regulations, but they turn a blind eye to the sexual abuse of children, which is clearly criminal under any jurisdictional and ethical code.

Stealing From The Worldwide Work Fund.
by Charles Gillette inall the money paid out by the watchtower to the child abuse law suits comes from the worldwide work fund or the contributions from the monies given for the kingdom hall real estate.
so,when we were actively involved donating funds for this purpose, and the watchtower used those funds for purposes other than the worldwide work are they not guilty of stealing funds that were donated for jehovah's kingdom.
can anything legal be done about this?

Actually, I think I'd prefer to have that money given to survivors of JW sexual abuse, domestic abuse etc. rather than see those bloated old bastards in the GB add another drop of water to their lovely retirement ranch in Upstate NY. They perverted justice for those survivors, and deserve the whirlwind they're reaping. I'd also rather see these settlements being paid out rather than having any monies being spent on luring vulnerable people into their wretched mind-control cult.
Does it bother me that rank and file JWs are the ones funding these settlements? In some respects, I think they're part of the problem, having provided financial support to the WT for more than the past century. If they'd only shut their wallets and chequebooks, the whole contemptible edifice would collapse.

Things society interferes with

Should have a 4-door car, not a 2-door, for better accessibility when going in Field Service™ or giving rides to Meetings™.
Minimize access to Worldly™ fashion magazines, hairstyles, novels, non-fiction reading material.
Don't put too much emphasis on physical fitness, physical appearance (kindly keep to 1950's standards - trousers for women are too offensive to the GB's sensibilities)
Keep your eye simple - don't indulge in luxuries, because the GB needs your money to have luxuries that they don't want you to have.

The ever-broadening, ever-deepening, ONGOING FLOOD TIDE of spiritual food
by credulity inmidway through the "congregation bible study" at this week's midweek meeting, a paragraph of the "god's kingdom rules" book stated as supposed evidence that "god's kingdom rules":.
"spiritual provisions flow to us like an ever-broadening and ever-deepening river.
our bible-based publications - as well as recordings and videos, our meetings and conventions, and the material published on our web site - together amount to an ongoing flood tide of spiritual sustenance... are you not thrilled to see the fulfillment of jehovah’s promises of abundance in your daily life?".

Spiritual provisions flow to us like an ever-broadening and ever-deepening river of $h!t. Our Bible-based publications - as well as recordings and videos, our meetings and conventions, and the material published on our Web site - together amount to an ongoing flood tide of
spiritual sustenancereading material that no sane person can keep up with... Are you not thrilled to see the fulfillment of Jehovah’s promises of abundance in your daily life? Not thrilled is exactly how I'd put it. And when it's bull$h!t WT propaganda, "abundance" is not a good thing. As with the paragraphs covered in the midweek meeting a few weeks ago praising the organisation's practice of "not soliciting" for money, it is fascinating to see how rapidly the "God's Kingdom Rules" book has gone out of date. I wonder what is running through the minds of JWs in attendance as the above is read out at the same time as the output of "spiritual food", both in printed and electronic form and including the recently introduced videos, is falling off a cliff?
"Not soliciting for money"? Just because they don't pass a collection plate, doesn't mean they do "not solicit for money". That is the raison d'être for their existence! BAHAHAHAHAHA!

Which Things Did Your Overzealous Parents Ban?
by pale.emperor inwe all know the gb like to impose rules upon the rules... but did anyone else out there have parents that implemented rules upon those rules?
mine did.
my mum tended to copy whatever the elders wives were doing and took it to the extreme.

Capt'n Crunch was okay. Lucky Charms, Boo-Berries and Count Chocula were banned.
Dairy Queen was banned for a time, because it was rumoured to be made with blood products.
Scary movies, especially the paranormal genre were banned.
I watched The X-Files and Unsolved Mysteries because by that time I was a grown-ass woman and wasn't going to let people tell me what I could watch on TV after my kids were in bed.
Sports were frowned upon, except for gym class at school. After graduating, it was all "Why would you want to waste your time on exercise when you could be Pioneering™ / Going Out In Service™?"
Researching in the Bound Volumes™. I was finding inconsistencies, and was told it would be better for my Spirituality™ if I just read the current Publications™.
We couldn't watch TV shows that aired on Meeting Nights™.
We weren't allowed to buy/wear hockey jerseys for our favourite teams, because Idolatry™.
Creative writing. My mother used it to blackmail me, saying that if I didn't (Go In Service™, stop skipping Meetings™, stop having Worldly™ friends, get Baptized™ at the next Circuit Assembly™) she was going to show my short stories to the Elders™ and get me in trouble.
Really got $h@t upon when I accepted a referral from my family doctor to see a specialist to treat severe post-partum depression. "Don't tell the shrink you're a Witness™ or he'll think we're all crazy!" "They'll get you to leave The Truth™!!" and the straw that broke the camel's back: "If you turn your back on The Truth™, your three beautiful children would be better off if you took them out in the back yard and blew their heads off with a gun. That way they won't go down with you at Armageddon™ and will be Resurrected™ in Paradise™."
