The bible IS part of this discussion.
To base what the JW's do on bible precepts, is to automatically give complete validity to the bible, and the JW's interpretation of it.

the most useless work a jw can do is preach!
the watchtower society said that every baptized person, whether they be male or female, child or adult, is a minister!
and the society says every minister must do a "life-saving work" and "preach the good news of the kingdom".

we only have a pattern to follow from history.

Dont make the mistake of confusing what people reportedly said and did in the bible as History.
Just look at todays situation, the Jessika Lynch story for example, even with our world wide reporting techniques, and instant information, we dont REALLY know what happened, what was said and done, and that was only months ago, so how can we be expected to know what people REALLY said and did thousands of years ago?

we've been home for 5 days now.

does anyone remember a watchtower saying that costume parties were inappropriate for christians?
i seem to remember that they were labeled in the "deamon" category, even if you had one and it had nothing to do with halloween.. is this true?
does anyone remember this crap?
I mean, have you ever not been able to recognize your friends at any party? ROFL!
Erm......Well, after 10 or 12 pints of beer...............
in my year and a half as a member of a couple ex-jw forums i have seen what i perceive to be a massive error on both my part and the part of others.
the mistake is this: judgeing someone simply from their on-line personality and statements.
i see it time and time again.
I believe it IS possible to get to know someone by what they post, more specifically, by the WAY they post what they post, and by the sort of threads they get heavily involved in.
Maybe it is because I lurk far more than I post, and am therefore ? stood back ? but everyone I have met from the boards IRL has been exactly as I expected them to be.
Seems to me that when two people are in a conversation/argument/flame, they are concentrating on the subject and so have little time/objectivity to ? get to know ? the other poster.

From the Bible, define 'The Act of Marriage'
What exactly do you have to do to be 'Married'
Provide references.
just a preliminary look at the new convention release "see the good land".
it is small collection of maps of the holy land and middle east around biblical times.
we in christendom have had these things for some time, under the name "bible atlases".
I just love the way they managed to wander in such a perfect direction. They even got the perspective right.
Must have been ' inspired '

ok, i'm sure this topic has been covered before, but i'm new here, so indulge me.
what do everyone's screen names mean?
some are pretty self-explanatory, but a few have me intrigued.
I found this website while researching the history of religious practices, it asked me for a screen name, and searcher is all I could think of
when i picked up this copy of the wt, i couldn't believe what i saw in the two study articles.
the first one is entitled "our watchfulness takes on greater urgency" and the second article is "prove yourselves ready for jehovah's day".. i'm not going to go into these articles in depth, as that is blondies job!
but i will elaborate on a few points.. before i begin, let's consider a recent comment at the annual general meeting by bro barr, a gb member to put things into perspective:.
I still think they are shunting sideways into legitimate business, intending to leave a few muppets and the elders to carry the can when the sh*t hits the fan.
That way the WT money would be safe from the courts, etc.
