how much effort does it take to check your spelling before you post a topic??.
just read over some of the topics up for discussion right now and you'll see a very shocking (to me, at least) disregard for accuracy.. if you can't trouble yourself to get your spelling right how are the rest of us going to respect the fact you have your reasoning right either??.

I make my living as a writer and editor, so it gets to me too. I always edit my posts, and even then a few mistakes creep in.
But, I strongly feel you should make your stuff look as good as possible.

I appreciate the "admonish in a spirit of love." Isn't there something about the soiled hem of a garment in there too??
Ah, I miss all those Watchtowerisms. I had a former Bethelite buddy who could spout them off like crazy. It was always happifying to enjoy such wholesome entertainment - in small groups only, of course.

Conversation with a Pioneer and............

she was aware that i do not attend the meetings anymore.
in the past she did not speak to me, but now she did.

On the old H2O discussion board, before I came on here, I posted a long conversation I had with one of my former COs. At the time I was in the early years of my fade from the WTS.
This ex-CO, at the time an elder in CA, was back for a visit, and called to get together and talk. We talked for several hours, and it was obvious that he didn't believe very much that the WTS taught, but remained active to help where he could.
I thought he was meeting with me to try to convince me to come back, and in reality it was more a chance for him to openly discuss his doubts and disgust with the Society.
The thread used to be bttt on H2O every year or so, and was well-read. If anyone knows how to get to those archives, I would love to see that post brought onto JWD. I posted on H2O as Seeker4 as well.

Over the years, the Society has had a number of agricultural properties. I think this one was where the Gilead School was originally located, as has been mentioned, and one they've had probably since the 40s or 50s.
I think this one also at one time had one of the largest open field areas in NY State. After Gilead was moved to NYC, there were just a few Bethelites that lived there and worked the farm.
They had one with orange groves in Florida, a few like that scattered around. I think the Society found that, over time, they could buy food more cheaply than they could raise a lot of it. I really have no idea just how much food and meat they produce on their own now. Obviously, they seem to be getting out of the Ag business!

Like you said, it's an approach that can be used for a a few months still, when done the way you did it. Maybe your success will move a few more folks to try it.

August KM provides solid evidence of declining JW morale
by sir82 inas you may or may not recall, the february '07 km (for the us) had a huge article, taking up the full 4 page insert, on the "blessings" of auxiliary pioneering.
the part covering that insert took up the entire service meeting (aside form the announcements).
the "encouragement" was that the us branch had set a goal of 160,000 auxiliary pioneers for the month of april ("if only one of every 6 publishers signs up, we can make it!")..

I was in NYC last year, and looked for the JWs. I only saw two sisters doing street work with Spanish lit. They stand and hold up the mags. That's it!

Where Are Our Elders.....?

as in, we have tons of younger to 50 year olds, but only a handful of folks in the 70-plus category, from what i can tell.
so, is it just that older folks aren't on-line or computer savvy?

When I'm doing good, sure I take responsibility. But when things are going bad, or I'm acting like a jerk, or being such an asshole that I get tossed out of where ever I am, well, then I'm pretty sure it's somebody else's fault. Probably the guy that invented liquor, and those damned rascals who started bottling it and making it accessible. Oh yeah, and those bastards who sell it.
