Could have been that the idea of 1,000 years being 1 day to God, was presented to us to cover off the 969 years that Methuselah lived.
Bending the story to fit the facts perhaps?
adam was told not to eat from the tree of knowledge for upon the very day of eating from it, he would die.
i had someone say that god lied because, adam didn't die that day but, the scriptures say to god a day is as a thousand years so, since adam lived 900+ years after eating , he indeed died within god's view of a day.
methuselah the oldest to ever live 969 years still within god's set time of a day.

i am surprised no one has mentioned what is going on in canada.. maybe they have but i missed it.
so here are some of the facts as i know them.
ontario only.. sault st. marie had their six congregations whittled down to two.
Dad says they are selling halls, so they can get the money to build them in Africa.
so i am trying to understand if i am the only pomo that experiences the situation where the pimi spouse comes back from a meeting a different personanlity.
it may not be obivious to the untrained eye, but i notice it and i know my sons notice it.
this last round after all the loyalty bs and armagedon bs it's like she has stayed stuck in it.
fader here - last meeting was in autumn 2005. lurker on this site and others.
not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.
Sorry this is happening. You have done your best to keep your life separate from them - for one reason and one reason only...to ensure you are able to continue to have a relationship with them. Now they do this? It hurts, it hurts bad. What should you do about it? What can you do about it? The reality is there is not a damn thing you can do about it.
Should you respond to them? To what end? Will it make you feel better? Most likely not. Make them tell you in person so you can both look into each other's eyes and see the hurt? Again to what end?
They are not going to change their minds. The decision is rendered - you are shunned and that's final. Leave it as it is.
Go about your life, and live it the way you want to.
Forgive them - for they know not what they do.
it brings to mind my niece when she see`s how dry the countryside is ,how armageddon must be so close..
How are you fairing Smiddy3?
i was told today that my jw family had a massive family gathering with presents exchanged, drinks and a big roast dinner.
they even wore paper hats.. the day they chose for this family day?.
26th december.. totally not christmas or anything - honest.. does anyone elses family do that?
There was never allowed any such thing at our house! Are you kidding?
We hosted a kids costume party one time and the elders had a fit - mimicking the worldly Halloween parties was the accusation. Never any fun when I was growing up.
i know some would not think about retirement.
i had one brother who would pioneer as he could afford and when he paid off his home he was about to collect social security.
he made enough that his plan was to work two to three days a week and pioneer the rest of the week.
As my mother said "We just didn't think we would still be here. We thought Armageddon would have come"
i was ministered to by several different people at a jw funeral i attended today.
one older lady said to me, "you know the end is right around the corner, just look at the state of the world today".
i said, "well yes but that has been the mantra for decades, remember 'stay alive till '75'".

I said, "well yes but that has been the mantra for decades, remember 'Stay Alive till '75'". She then says, "well that never came from the governing body, that was local ones saying that". My response was "I distinctly remember hearing it at the summer assembly, so it wasn't just murmurs or local ones". She quickly changed the subject LOL.
just heard from a friend who keeps in touch with the jw's.
a person who has been studying found out some things on line about the witnesses and decided to not get baptized and stopped attending the meetings.
she lives with a witness.
"Apparently it's all about how much you rock the boat that'll earn you the apostate badge, technically true or not."
That is a nail hit squarely on the head - Neat Blue Dog
could not believe this week's "study" : .
here is a stewart in the stew, that mis - manages, perhaps defrauds his master, and knows he is going to be fired for that.
he defrauds his master some more, in order to avoid working and instead leaching off the former creditors.
As I no longer have access to the 'study' material, I wonder if someone could post here? I loathe to go to their site.
