Sounds like good advice to me. Its not a question of overruling the wishes of the couple, its a question of the elders conscience. If that idea (conscience) is valid , why can't the elders use it as their defense. Afterall , an older woman may tire of "bringing up" her husband.and her young husband may resent his wife's mothering attitude. The odds are against them. Why not give it some time . They can always prove the Elders wrong by marrying elsewhere but what recourse is their for the Elders if they go against their conscience and the marriage fails because of the age and experience difference. Nah, good advice!!

This will make you laugh.

the speaker said "that all the main chruches of this world have joined the un but only the witnesses have not committed fornication by joining her.

If you post it on the Kingdom Hall door, be sure to note that an NGO agrees to advance the programs and positive image of the UN otherwise they can't "use the library" !!!

Not wasting your time on people
by Markfromcali injust a really simple point here, have you ever noticed maybe after a particular conversation (or series of them) that looking back, it was a total waste of time?
like no matter what effort you make you just couldn't get through to actually communicate with the person you are talking to.
it may be easier to let it go for people you are not so close to, but probably a bit harder if say you have family in as jws.

Markfromcali, what you are expressing is common. Most of us are not aware that most parties are not listening. You are now aware of that fact. Why don't people listen? Because they want to be heard. Try listening and you will see exactly why they cannot hear you. Your new understanding will be more gratifying than being heard and it will mark the beginning of insight.
One way to slow yourself down from 'telling your story" is to watch your thoughts as you are relating to the person in front of you. That pause will allow them to speak and if you are listening you will see clearly how to speak to them. you may not be able to tell them "your story" because you now see the shape of their mind.

Feed a Fever, Starve a Cold?
by SixofNine inor starve a fever, feed a cold?
or is it all crap and you should just listen to your stomach?
-
Siddhashunyata
IF you feed a cold you will have to starve a fever. The idea is to fast and drink plenty of water if you have a cold. This allows all energy to go to cleansing the body , It keeps the blood from congesting as it circulates and picks up waste matter from the cells. If congestion occurs the body kicks in another line of defense, heat,a fever.

There are three worlds. The relative world ( intellect is strong , a mountain is a mountain) , the absolute world ( intellect ceases, a mountain is not a mountain ), the real world ( a mountain is a mountain, enlightment). The relative world uses the language I am using here. The real world uses the language of ZEN. The absolute wolrd has all language and no language because it is the world where opposites are merged into one because the entire spectrum ,from 0 to infinity ,exists together. Without the absolute world we could have no relative world . The perception of both as one world is what enlightenment is. The feeling is that of enormous ...space.

The kingpin is "shunning" the disfellowshipped and disassociated. That is the big stick that keeps everyone in line. If the membership would refuse to abide by that rule, the voice of the dissidents would be heard and things would either change or collapse.

Our Consciousness
by IronGland inonce again while meditating in my pod, thoughts began to enter my mind.
thoughts that i did not ask to recieve.
consider: if we believe murray gel-mann there is nothing supernatural about quarks, they have charge and spin and no holy grail.

There is only one world but we are unable to perceive it as it is. The one world is..... the relative world within the absolute world. We see only the relative world unless we transcend and experience the absolute world (enlightment). If the enlightment is permanent we see the one world as it is both relative and absolute. . In the absolute world there are no opposites. It is experienced as one thing, dividing it creates the relative world . For example, if you could at once sense all degrees of heat , from the lowest ( 0 ) to the highest ( infinity ), temperature would , in the absolute world, be no temperature even though all degrees are there. Because all the degrees are there in the absolute world, it is possible to have a relative world within the absolute and that is what we have but they are only one world.

Seeker4 Invited to a Committee Meeting Tonight
by Seeker4 inyup, they are going ahead with it.
i spent most of yesterday, sunday, writing what turned out to be a 10 page letter to the body of elders about why i feel they are out of line in seeking to disfellowship me (for those new to this situation, i've been seperated from my wife and living with another woman for the past six months.
i've not been an active witness for a decade.).

"Despite the changes in my feelings in both of these situations - this is a hell of a week, and not the easiest time I've been through. These have been two of the most important parts of my life, and they are now irrevocably coming to an end. "
Guard your health. It would be an understatement to say you are under tremendous stress. Best wishes to you.

Its an interesting question but when I think of someone like Ghandi , Saint Francis , Mother Teresa, I don't think they thought about it quite that way.

Albert Einstein and his nature of turning inward?
by frankiespeakin ini would like to here your opinions about ae even if you don't know much about him,, what do you think about him according to what limited knowledge you have of him.
i think this would be fun for our imagination.
i bet those that have a mystical nature might have some interesting things to say as well as you science buffs.. i think he was very introverted,,had great intuitions,, a very lively imagination,,and had perhaps experinced enlightenment perhaps not as much as some mystics but quite abit atleast that's what i gather from the recient thread i started which has some quotes of his ideas about spirituality.

Intelligence has to understand the activity of thought. When intelligence understands the activity of thought, then thought is different in its operation. For example if thought has created racism or nationalism as a means of "security" and then one sees the fallacy of it, the seeing of the fallacy is intelligence. Thought then creates a different kind of world in which racism and nationalism do not exist. Intelligence sees the falsness of what is going on. When thought is free of this falseness it is different. Then it begins to parallel intelligence. Einstein felt this action and allowed intelligence to superscede conditioning so that his thoughts paralleled intelligence. There is only one intelligence but there are many "thinkers" of thoughts.
