we are made in god's image and he is a person, not just some invisible, omnipresent force.

here is some more research for those who love to ask questions yet won't do the digging.. the bible consistently portrays god as a passionate individual, whose inner experiences of love, compassion, grief, delight, joy, peace, anguish, and moral outrage at atrocity dwarf ours in the extreme.

the bible makes no apology for this, but rather exults in the living one, in contrast to the dead and lifeless idols that surrounded its writers.. one scholar put it thus:.

I have some questions. Do you agree with EVERY law that is currently on the books in this country? Do you agree with EVERY law that is currently enforced in EVERY country? If you don't agree with those laws, do you or would you break them? If you did break the law and got caught, should you be free from punishment? Didn't you take a chance knowing that you could be punished if caught? If you DO agree with these laws, do you also agree with the mandatory sentencing that is attached to some violations? If you do agree with all the laws and sentencing, are you saying that men, who can be corrupted are equipped to make laws and decisions about how to enforce them? If you don't agree with them, does that mean that you think there should be NO LAWS? Or do you only think that there should be laws that you agree with and understand? Would that be realistic or reasonable?

I'm interested in knowing your thoughts on this. I'm really curious as to what or where you believe the base of morals and authority is. Or even if you think such things do or should exist.

Once again, it's me

i send you this post because i have a problem with timidity.

i don't know why but, since i'm young, i have this problem.

now, i will try to see a psychologist because i want to find the reason why i have this problem.

(((I said it because I don't know if the bible itself is a true book. Should we believe in the theory of the evolution or should we believe in the bible. Personnally, I have difficulty to believe to all of what is said in the bible.)))

After I was disillusioned to the truth, I stopped reading the Bible for awhile because more things that they said were true kept popping up as being untrue when I read it.
If I could give you some advise, don't stop praying. If you don't like to call Him Jehovah (which is actually not very close to the original), pray to Jesus, asking Him to intervene on your behalf to Yahweh. Keep seeking and you WILL find. I know it's hard, but you don't have to turn your back on belief in God because of the blind guides that misled you in the past. I've found that the Bible isn't false, people who want to dictate faith to others are.
You will find your path.

I don't think I would ever do that to my own child either, but she reacted to the situation the way she did, and its end wasn't so bad. I don't own a gun, never have and never will, but if I did, I would probably use in if called upon to defend myself against someone more powerful than me.
I did have a situation once when my son, then 11, pushed me into an empty bathtub because I was making him do some housework that he didn't want to do. I beat his ass with a belt.
My sons, all now in there mid to late twenties, have recently expressed to me that they feel I was entirely in the right for the ass whoopings that they received at my hand when they were younger. They, all of them, agreed that they could be disagreeable little brats that made my life more difficult when it suited them. They all have grown to be fine men, the two oldest have good jobs and families of their own. The youngest is going to college and working at a well paying job in accounting.
I didn't spank them often, and would always warn them, but if they didn't heed my warnings they received the consequences for their behavior.

(((As for judging "another 'god'"--I will guess you are referring to various threads where gruesome bible stories are discussed?? Yes, I have a problem with a god who would commit/condone/order wholesale slaughter and countless various sick acts. Don't you? I consider such a being anything but enlightened. That is my view, you are of course free to worship such a god as you please.)))

Actually, I was referring to my friend, who would be a god unto herself if no god exists. She would also be the ultimate authority, or god to her own child if no god exists.

WTS involvement with politics/UN exaggerated?

i've seen the threads on the wts' involvement with cesnur, swaggert, and the un.

since then, i've done additional research on the internet, including accessing the un's webiste and searching for "watchtower" and "jehovah's witnesses.

" and i am concerned that many of the posts on this website grossly overexaggerate the degree of the wts's involvement and its purpose.. in my internet research, the only connection i have seen between the wts and cesnur or the un is in situations on the world scene threaten their right to religious freedom.

I've been through all my recent editions of the Awake magazine, and have found that a UN organization is mentioned in a positive light in every one of them. It's usually the World Health Organization, but others, such as UNICEF have been given the same treatment. I'm currently in a discussion with a JW about this very matter. This person refuses to see that by agreeing to dissminate information and gain public support for the UN and its agencies, the WTBTS is in fact allowing the UN to DIRECT, in part, the very nature of their publication. They are also allowing the UN to direct the content, in that they must now use them, at least in part, for the above mentioned purposes. This is hypocricy if I ever saw it.

It must have worked. The girl never threatened her again. And she is now 40 years old and has never had a problem with the law, or violence. It seems to me that my friend taught her daughter a lesson. As far as it having nothing to do with atheism, you're probably right. I've found that people are happy to judge others no matter what their faith, or lack thereof. They judge them strictly according to what THEY believe is right or wrong.

Why shouldn't I defend her? It's her kid, not mine. Why should I tell her what lessons she should teach her and what methods she should use to teach them? Assault and battery are also against the law. Should my friend have had her daughter arrested and locked up in a juvenile detention center? How would you have controlled this violent, out-of-control child? Would you let her think that she could beat you up?

There you go again. You know NOTHING about my friend. She has always been very small and learned from a young age to defend herself against attack. Was she wrong? Was she wrong for having a gun in her house? What is it with atheist anyway? They don't believe in the existance of a God, which means in essence, that we are all god unto ourselves. Yet they use their own conscience to judge someone else. Do you seek to be god of the world? If you don't, where do you get off judging another 'god' for the decisions they make? If you are adhering to the laws of the land, does that mean the you are in agreement and adhere to all the manmade laws that exist? And if you do, does that mean that the people that make these laws have some superior grasp on the world that they can make laws that should be agreeable to everyone? It sounds confused to me.

No, I'm asking how you can come to the conclusions that you do about my friend being a violent child abuser? Tell me, what did you do when YOUR teenager, who is bigger than you, hit YOU on the back with a boot because she didn't like it? It hasn't happened to you? Just how would you control an out of control child? Should my friend have had her arrested and sent to juvie for awhile?
