  hi,.

  i'm hoping someone can help me.. i'm trying to find quotes from the watchtower publications talking about how the catholics are following men instead of jesus, and how they almost worship the pope, basically any quotes like that where the society condemns the catholics for the same thing the dubs do with the governing body.. thanks :-)

  i have been reading this board since right before dateline.. i want to say thanks to simon for this great website!

  i want to thank bill bowen, sheila bowen, barbara anderson, joe anderson, the pandelos, erica rodriguez, and all of the other silentlambs who have spoken out!.

  i have some questions.. does anyone have any information about a circuit overseer named orval ellis (he used to be the co in arkansas, and then oklahoma, and just now colorado).

  i wonder what the real reason is behind this plea from the wbts.

  perhaps it is more evidence of a desire to downsize?.

  but they can't downsize the printing works if the brothers are being wasteful!

  I think it's about money and apostates. I truly believe that they're concerned that apostates are getting the evidence material and using it.

  We all know that the WT condemns itself on a regular basis.

  DISPROVE THE FAITHFUL AND DISCREET SLAVE

  one of the most ingrained things for long time witnesses to change their viewpoint on is the fds.

  i believe that due to the constant information at the meetings, conventions, publications and elder's talks, the doctrine of the faithful slave is pounded into everyone's heads.once a person sees the misunderstanding of this teaching, it's easier to critically see the wrongness of the watchtower.

  can you suggest easier, less complicated rebuttals to this doctrine?

  One of Englishman's posts struck a chord with me today. It touched on a subject that I've been thinking alot about since the most recent flame wars. Posting on people's threads.

  I don't post alot. It's usually for the reason that Englishman spoke of...there's nothing to add.

  So many of you express yourselves with such clarity and understanding that it would be redundant to add anything but "Right On!". I've been thinking that maybe I should have been at least adding that.

  When I first started posting here, I think I bordered on being a WT apologist. I came in here, with the idea that they were wrong, but not beyond redemption (probably similar to youknow and yardirf, but not quite). After reading for a couple of HOURS I realized that I was right all along to leave them. The UN thing was the proverbial straw for me.

  You guys and gals may not be the most wholesome association LOL but you are the best!

  So many of you Farkel, AllenF., heekaw, Englishman, Hillary Step, unclebruce, Simon(of course), Saint Satan, billygoat, the sis's tracy and , Mulan, Venice, MrMoe, Dave(seven...), COMF, Amazing, Tina, JanH, even Kent...All of you have helped me so much. Your experience has validated mine. Your willingness to open up has given me more space...I don't mean to disregard anyone by not mentioning them by name...I'm telling you the truth when I say everyone here has helped me in some way. I guess I'm just trying to say thanks, and I'm sorry if I don't let you know more often.

  Tiring of Anti-JW causes?

  i'm kind of burnt out from being pissed off at jws.

  tonight, while talking to a friend who left at the same time i did (several years ago), we both spoke of our apathy towards the whole anti-witness movement.

  recently i helped in several anti-jw actions, and i thought i made a difference, although it was a pittens compared to others who have come before.

  Ashi, I understand what you're talking about, but for different reasons. I wasn't raised a dub, but maybe I can offer you something from a different perspective.

  What you're experiencing is the way life is for alot of people, I think. I feel like I've been doing battle most of my life as well, even though I spent in the borg was nothing compared to most of you. I came from a disfunctional family (dad is an alcoholic), I had children and was married at a very young age, I'd spent some years doing drugs and was (still am) always suspicious and rebellious against the 'authorities'. I always felt like I wanted to know God and truth and justice and all that good stuff. I joined the borg, truly believed it was the truth (although I had trouble understanding some doctrines), and was utterly crushed when I realized it wasn't 'truth' at all, but a bunch of crap. The point being that there are alot of us who had a screwed up life without the borg. I think that's what attracted us to it to begin with, misery loving company and all.

  I was lucky though, in that I had 'roots' outside the religion, so leaving didn't really affect me on a social level. It effected me otherwise, but the transformation was easier because I was really one of the 'worldly people' to begin with. Still, I was obviously affected by my time in the borg or else I wouldn't be here trying to come to terms with it with the help of people like you. I'm involved on another board where I try to show some actives the truth about the truth, and all I can really do is hope that something will strike the right chord. I get a headache from it sometimes and wonder if I shouldn't stop...but hey...my whole life has been a struggle and if it I didn't engage on some level I wouldn't know how to act...lol

  I've recently decided to actively help SilentLambs with some of their mailings so that I would have a more direct impact against the dark side. Knowing that is uplifting rather than the feeling you get when you try to reason with an active JW. I don't know the level of your involvement with trying to help, but maybe if you just limit yourself to activities that don't involve verbally trying to deprogram them you'll feel better.

  Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that life is a struggle and you're lucky if you get to pick what it is you're fighting. The fact that you feel the way you do means you have a choice. Don't forget that.

  Giving Up Smoking

  i'm giving up smoking on the 22nd.

  it will be the third time, but this time as part of a government sponsored training course with drugs and patches supplied etc.

  anyone else given up and got any helpfull advise?.

  When I realized I was pregnant with my daughter I quit in two days (for the 2nd time) with the aid of that nicorette gum. ick One thing I did was play a mind game with myself by having a full pack of cigarettes at home. That way I felt like I was in control of the situation, instead of jonesing for cigs that I didn't have, I just didn't smoke the ones I did.

  I know it wouldn't work for everyone, but it worked for me.
