Or else they just SUCK and the individuals that make up the team couldn't stand up to the challenge. They needed to stop believing all the hocus pocus of averages and numbers and just act like they know. They didn't.

i'm raising this question for several reasons.
there is a recent thread where people are arguing about whether religious confessions should be privileged communications.

If we're not to respect the clergy-penitient privelege, then why on earth should we respect lawyer-client privelege?
Yerusalym, the difference is that a lawyer acts as an "advocate" for the accused. You can't have the avocate dissing the one they're defending can you?
On the other hand, according to what you've previously posted, the clergyman does/should not be acting in the advocate position for a confessor of child molestation (as an example) that doesn't turn themselves in. Therefore, the clergyman is not an advocate for the confessor, but rather an advisor. From what I understand, psychologists and psychiatrists (advisors) are compelled by law to report such crimes. What makes a clergyman/woman any different?
If it were understood by the confessor that his crimes would be reported, he would then be able to count the clergyperson as an advocate (for his Spiritual nature), right? Which is better?
i have been lurking in the shadows here for a while now, reading for myself and hearing from my mom some of the interesting things that the jw's are trying to cover up right now.. i am 18 (19 in a month and will be celebrating my birthday for the first time ever!

the reason that i am a little afraid is that four out of my five grown children are still jws and if they knew that i was on here.....well nothing would change, would it, they don't speak to me now.

Hi! and welcome! I'm not as old as you, but I'm also a grandmom. Thank God I got out before my boys became indoctrinated. I can't imagine what it would be like not to have contact with my grandkids. I'm sorry that you're subjected to that.
I think you'll find that most of the people here will be able to understand completely what you've been going through. It may not resolve the problem, but it can help to deal with it.

Bush said it from 9-11 on, any country that harbor's or condones terror is an enemy. Tell me Sadam does not qualify on both counts.
That pretty much describes all of the middle east, least of which is Iraq, considering that Sadam isn't a muslim fundamentalist. He's more of a capitalistic fascist (sound familiar?). Let's not forget Asia, Europe and Canada. I'm sure that S. America harbors some of them and last but not least, it seems that the good old USA could fit that bill too since the 911 hijackers were happily living here until that day...hmmm...where does it end?
More importantly, why is Iraq the first country after Afganistan that fits the bill? It's apparent to most people that there are other countries with leaders who are more involved with the bankrolling and support of terrorists than Iraq.
I'm tired of hearing how he used WMD against his own people. Yes he's a dictator and no I don't like him, but do you really think that this country is beyond that sort of thing? Ever hear of Kent State University? Those American citizens weren't even armed, yet our government saw fit to shoot down those protesting students.
I'm also tired of Republican administrations bringing out the bloodlust in people and hiding their agenda's behind the guise of "national security". Give me a frickin' break!

Hi! I understand what you're saying, but when I got involved with them there weren't really many resources available to thoroughly investigate them. Adding that to the fact that they got to me when I was at a very low point in my life, I didn't stand a chance.
Some neighbors of my parents used to take the literature sometimes and once returned the favor by giving me a Dawn magazine. I looked at it and the first few paragraphs were almost verbatim some of words in the Live Forever book. Some bells went off, but I attributed it to the "evil slave". I wish I had that mag now so I could look at the copyright date...I didn't do it then. I think I was afraid of what I'd find.
You're right about the importance of investigating. I'm sure the advent of the internet and sites like this one have helped to dissuade many a would be JW. Let's hope anyway.
