the seniors in our family were scammed by watchtower, for over 7 figures.
an interesting read today to give some insight.. one of the most egregious con-artists is watchtower bible and tract society the “legal” entity for jehovah’s witnesses.
many retired jehovah’s witnesses have been targeted over the years to “loan” money for various “special projects” to further the “preaching work”, only to find they are never to be repaid.

Beth many religions use money donated for work in the community or actual upkeep of buildings . The Church of England building that attend is a 160yr old stone building which is quite expensive to keep going .
However many people who never contribute want the Church building available for Baptisms , Weddings and Funerals when it suits them .
Also we run a Place of Welcome group for ANYONE who wants to come and have refreshments and company.
Plus an Mom's ( Dad's, Grans, Grandads) and under 5 group . Also a Knit and Natter Group for anyone to attend
They do not have to be Church members, these groups are for the benefit of the community.
In addition we support overseas charities like Aytuliah which helps women in India to get out of the sex trade and learn skills to get legitimate work .
Please do not view all religions through the prism of the WT .

DoC most religions are nothing like the WT .
SlimboyFat you're right, but when people believe that they are loaning money and get ripped off that is very different to knowingly spending Johnny's inheritance.

i was looking up how to do something and found this awesome piece of writing.
it's really good information... and it made me chuckle too.
the picture over "understand the beliefs" is priceless to me.
When JWs knocked on my daughter's door my teenage granddaughter told them that the family were Satanists.
They couldn't get away quick enough and never went back .

can i call you friends, i think so after 23 years posting here.
i am dismayed how jwn is being "dominated" or taken over by a few posters, peppering the comments.
in the past, the admin did not approve of this and did remove some posters from jwn.
May l , as a never a JW , put my two penny worth in .
I have certainly learnt an awful lot about a lot of things since joining this group
Certainly about the WT but also about people in general
It's been a real eye opener so thank you to all of you .

not just jw's, but countless others (evangelicals etc.
) are claiming that we're in the "last days.".
but........bible students/jw's have been spouting this fake message since the 19th century!!!!!!.
NotFormer thank you for completing my ignorance. As you say no mainstream church goer is aware of these channels and l totally agree that ignorance is bliss

i went to a christening at a church today, a black church.
it was an incredible experience!!
women were an active part of the service, and the people were very welcoming.
LauraLynn exactly , the sermons in churches are based on the Bible- the Gospel.
One of our lay readers, Ray , often comes out with what he will admit are his thoughts on a passage. He will usually then say " you may disagree with my interpretation , that's fine and l hope that some of you do " . His hope is to start us thinking and discussing.
It is often said that you can read the same verse again after a few years and get something different from it . According to where you are on your spiritual journey.
This is , l suspect, quite different from the JW attitude.

Thank you Vanderhoven7 , that is beautiful.
How wonderful to see lots of different churches of all kinds coming together. That happens more often than most people realise.
