Was this ever settled? Did we ever find out if he actually served, and under what capacity?

Anthony Morris III... Did he really serve in Vietnam? Something doesn't quite add up...
by Calebs Airplane inborn in 1950, he apparently became a regular pioneer in 1971.. but wait.... let's just say that he enlisted (or was drafted) in 1968 at age 18.... depending on the branch of service, he would have to complete anywhere from 2 to 4 years of service.
yes, duty in hot combat zones was usually limited to 6-months at a time but you still had to serve a total of 2 to 4 years depending on the branch of service.
assuming he only served 2 years, he would have been 20 years old and discharged by 1970.... how did he get witnessed to, complete a book study, become an unbaptized publisher, get baptized and then become a regular pioneer in less than year???.

A House Divided Against Itself Falls-Luke 11:17
by Stand for Pure Worship inthat text reminds me of one of a handful of problems peculiar to the ex-jw community.
second only to the wild beast's internal divisions, is the divided makeup of the ex-jw populace.
you know the one thing that indicates jehovah's blessing upon the worldwide association of kingdom proclaimers, is not only the continued success of the preaching work, but along with it the unity and love amongst the brothers and sisters.

SFTW,
Any thouhgts on the responses to your questions here?
Someone treating you poorly is certainly not enough to make any decision on its own. I don't think you understand, it isn't just the treatment that led many to leave. it was only the treatment that allowed them to look at things they were previously unwilling to look at.

I would start with "back from what?". Then after the inevitable back in the truth comment, I would simply say truth isn't something you can leave. It exists wether you realize it or not. So what do you mean?
Then so on and so forth until they give up or get the point. I also like ray publishers comment. I do that alot.

Kari,
He is right....it is a disfellowshipping offense. IF you are baptized. If you left the room because he wouldn't shut up about it, it just seems like a fight. You guys are going to need to find a way to coexist. He isn't (or doesnt' for now), feel like you do, and you want to be able to go to your new church. So you guys are going to have to make peace with each others choices. You included.
You can catch more flys with honey than vinegar. You aren't going to get far by telling him his religion is bunk and then arguing with him.

jwfacts is a good place to start. I am not sure what this person is really saying. You still need to address wht they did with your mutual employer. As an employer of others, i assure you, this is no small matter.

The New World Abomination Translation Kills Acts 17:11, Bereans Are Not Checking Paul's Message For Errors Or Signs Of Fraud!
by AuntConnie ini thought the watchtower would weaken acts 17 and revelation 2, eliminate people who question serious doctrines like the bible-based governing body, five-hundred-year generation, blind obedience without checking the bible and the systematic elimination of our critical thinking skills like cults usually do.. .
matthew henry wrote almost four hundred years ago the following commentary on acts 17:11 describing the zealous nature of the people of berea, are jws really like them?
" the jews in berea applied seriously to the study of the word preached unto them.

Am I missing something? Acts 17:11 seems to read the exact way it did before. Other than the received point brought out by LQ, the translation seems to be in harmony with the text, if maybe a bit cumbersome.

Kids who need blood transfusions
by ilikecheese ini was reading this story about an amish girl in ohio whose parents wanted to use natural medicine to treat her cancer, but a court has ruled that the hospital can force chemo in this situation.
it got me thinking about jw kids and blood.. .
obviously, there are a ton of cases where hospitals have made a blood transfusion happen, despite the parents' wishes.. .

I had my kid when I had one foot out and didn't realize it. I honestly think even with both feet in I wouldn't have let my child die. Here is how my thinking even as a hard core JW would intertwine with my natural instincts as a parent to take care of my child.
Ok.....So the kid will get a transfusion. I am going to authorize it. That way my child lives, and Jehovah will kill ME instead for allowing it. My kid doesn't have asay in the matter, so jehovah won't hold him accountable. But me, he can kill if he wants because I disobeyed.
That is probably the way i would have viewed it. I am ashamed I thought of God this way.

SFTW,
Thanks for starting a thread topic. Well quite simply, the people here and in other places are all autonomous. Differing views and opinions are tolerated and allowed without issue. in other words, people can FEEL differently about something, and still be a part of a community. In addition.....nobody here is claiming to speak for God. Big dfference. There are no claims made here that need to be lived up to.
Honestly, it isn't about how much "success" one has or does not have. Most of us here have been long time loyal JW's for most or all of our lives. Now we are in a situation where we feel differently about the religion we once knew. What is interesting, is that this board wouldn't exist, if the GB did not take such a hard line stance against alternative views and former members. Since they do, it has become a long and arduous process to work with my long time loyal to the JW's wife in order to allow her to think for herself. She hasn't completely left, but you could be damn sure she wouldn't do something absolutely insane like turn down a possible life saving blood transfusion for our child because 8 guys in NY told her to.
That is really all I want.
It is not easy to leave the religion of my youth. It is the hardest thing i haveever done. But I simply cannot look the other way in the face of doctrine and beliefs that cannot be justified scripturally. i had to tangle my mind in knots to come up with the societies explanation on things. So at the tender age of 35 (my current age), I decided to stop serving the congregation, and pull away from the organization.
If you are here to put your faith to the test, or just out of curiosity fair enough. Best to address others with a certain amount of dignity wouldn't you say? Im not a big fan of 6 screens of the watchtower. it hink the owner fo the site is nuts. JWfacts is great and is very factually based with refferences etc... that can be easily verified. JWsurvey and JWstruggle i think are also very eye openign even if they contin more interprative commentary. Regardless, those sites are put together by individuals. its not a "religion" over here. People can exist in freedom.
Is there perhaps a doctrin you had issue with? You are certainly welcome here, but to be honest, it is puzzling as to why you are here. You are clearly o with disobeying the direection of the slave class. I started out in apologetics on line defending our beliefs. i did this for a couple years. Finally I found something indefensible that made me think twice about accountability, bloodguilt, and the role of the GB. It was blood. I consider it the most indefensible doctrine.
What about you? Whats your story?

Everyone feels differently. But we all agree, only deal with one thing at a time. I believe the blood doctrine as currently taught by JW's is the most dangerous, and also the most entagled. There are questions that cannot be answered.......period.
Taking blood and not repenting is a disfellowshipping offense. Same goes for the 4 main components
Yet Albumin (a blood protein), makes up twice the volume in blood, as white blood cells do. It varies but its something like 1.3% (white blood cells), and 3% (albumin). So why is taking one a disfellowshipping offense and the other not? Who makes this decision?
In 1999 taking a fraction is a disfellowshipping offense. In 1967 taking an organ is a disfellowshipping offence. If someone....ANYONE, lost their lives over that doctrine that is enforced through disfellowshipping, and it was later found to be in "error", who bears the bloodguilt for that death? They were told they only had one choice. They were not told the truth.
In biblical times, David ate showbread when him and his mens lives were in danger. Jesus used this illustration showing that God wants mercy not sacrifice. Same goes for healing on the sabbath. Jesus broke the rules because they missed the point of the rules.
Your position id not one of EATING blood, but rather that a christian could use their conscience in deciding to use blood for what its intended purpose is......to nourish the body in the circulatory system. (in other words, transfusing, fractioning, and testing all do not "pour out on the ground" the blood stated in the Noachian creed). People in a coma cannot be "fed" through their veins. They have to have a feeding tube. Also when you are bleeding to death, you cannot drink blood and survive. In most if not all cases, the person who donated the blood, is still alive and walking around.
Between the medical weirdness, the change in doctrine that meant REAL lives, the teachings of Jesus AND Paul contradicting a legalistic stance, and the proper context of the word "abstain" and what it would have meant to the people of that time......I think blood is a slam dunk. Might get her thinking too.
