he he, don't worry - I did plenty of talking!
Thanks for the thoughts BTW, it really does mean a lot to us both having people to talk to.
I knew they would make an issue over the web-sites but I'm not going to stop trying to help others just because they dont like it. Also, being able to do something positive helps us to and besides, we've made so many good genuine friends from doing it that I couldn't close it could I?
I do feel quite upbeat actually. It's not like anything will change - the small minded people have already been doing their shunning thing but we don't rely on them anymore anyway - we have new friends and associations now and will have to make new ones anyway when we move.
I just hope that they sort out the people concerned who were doing things wrong and start to care for people a bit better. If it does nothing else than stop someone else going through what we've been through it will have been worthwhile.

Hi twvsnt
Maybe the other sisters are jealous that you are doing something to better yourself ?
My wife (Angharad) is doing an Open University course on science and she is loving it. I would have loved to study more and get more qualifications but was actively discouraged.
Don't let them put you off! -

Well, the big day came and went...
There was lttle o'l me and 6 elders for about 3 hours.
The 3 local elders remained silent throughout and I talked to the 3 visiting ones.
The outcome wasn't a surprise - they decided to uphold the da decision of the original committee - however, I'm not a little confused as to the reasons why.
The letter I originally got stated that they had invited me to a committee meeting (I was asked if I'd like to go for a 'chat') and that I had refused to go (I was busy and told them I would need more notice) so they had accepted that 'I had disassociated myself' even though I had not.
However, I did go to this 'appeal' and they upheld the decision but have not given me anything in writing as to why. They mentioned the web-sites so I assume that it is because of this.
I will post more when I've made a proper transcript of the meeting. -

We were told that the society doesn't teach that the earth is 6000 / 7000 / 49000 years old anymore (whetever it was).
However, they have never actually printed anything to that effect that I can recall so surely the latest thing printed is the 'current teaching' ? -

Hate mail from JW
by TR inthis is an email i just received.
i feel like posting the senders name and email, but i'll refrain for now.. you are a coward like all of you on that 'jw' board you cant say these things .
when we talk to you cause you dont want to hear the truth................you .

I get plenty hate mail all the time!
Funny thing is, I setup http://www.jwtruth.com/ site first at the height of our trouble with the elders which was very much an 'anti' site and then set this up which is more 'pro' or at least friendly (I hope).
So, I got hate mail from both sides...however, the stuff I got from 'apostates' about this site was very polite and they nearly always identified themselves whereas the emails from JWs were quite bitter and usually anonymous. What does that tell you about the type of people they are? Who is showing love and trying to re-adjust someone in the proper manner?
BTW: Does anyone else get any viruses sent them? I get them quite regularly so someone must think I'm stupid enough to open an EXE from a faked Email address (eg. I never registered Norton AntiVirus from [email protected]). My various firewalls and anti-virus software always catches it though
However, I do understand why people do stuff like this because I was once 'angry and righteous' about what I saw on 'apostate' web-sites. Luckily, people were patient with me ! -

UK Data Protection Act
by expatbrit inthe address below (posted originally on h2o by sharia) leads to a rather interesting page giving a suggested communique' to the wt to demand destruction of personal records that are being kept regarding yourself.. it is based upon the uk data protection act.
anybody in the uk tried something like this?
did it work?

We were having a lot of rumours and stuff being spread about us (by elders) so to try and get to the bototm of things I sent a letter asking for information about me under the data protection act:
Dear Brother
As is my right under the Data Protection Act I would like to request:
(a) Whether personal data relating to me or any member of my family is being held or processed.
(b) A description of the data held, the purpose for which it is being held or processed and the recipients or classes of recipients to whom the information may be disclosed; and
(c) A copy of the information held by the Data Controller and the source of that information.
I would remind you that under the terms of the Data Protection Act, you have 40 days from the receipt of this letter to comply with my request.
Please not that this is not a letter of disassociation and no attempt should be made to treat it as one. I am simply concerned about certain un-truths recently circulated about me within the congregation that have apparently originated from local elders and am determined to take some form of action on this matter to resolve the situation.
I didn't get any response from this initially, I guess they thought I wasn't serious - they also ignored another letter I sent at the same time making specific complaints about the behavious of one of the local elders. So I sent this:Further to my letter of October 1999 requesting disclosure of information held about me under the terms of the Data Protection Act, which I receive an acknowledgement of but no response to, I would like to remind you that you were legally obliged to answer my request within 40 days but have apparently decided to ignore the law on this matter.
I feel I have given you more than sufficient time to deal with my request and am giving notice that if I do not receive a satisfactory response to my request within the next 7 days I will be raising a formal complaint with the Data Protection Registrar.
I would remind you that this is not a letter of disassociation and no attempt should be made to treat it as one.
Now I got a response!
What is strange though is that I got two...first, elders came round with my report card which they showed me and told me that it was all they had, nothing more. I said that was fine but could I have it in writing. Doing this really scared them for some reason and I got a letter several days later saying that they did not have to comply with the data protection act until October 2001 (I assume because their records are papar based).
Now, why would they do that unless they were lying and did actually have some records? Why not be happy to write saying that they did not have any? -

Hey! Wait a Second!!!
by SixofNine insomething just hit me.. you know how witnesses love to remind you that the early christian congregations had problems, sometimes even big problems, whenever modern day problems and inconsistancies are brought to their attention?.
as much as my gut and heart hate the glibness and triteness of that, it is difficult to argue against.
but i just thought of a key difference.

Thats an interesting point six...never thought of that one!
If Jesus is already ruling and we are in some kind of spiritual paradise already then why all the flip-flops over doctrine and cock-ups over procedures? -

It's the sort of things we parents have to worry about isn't it?
A guy at work went balistic after the teacher made his daughter sit through school with a broken collar-bone and to stop mithering.
I know they must put up with a lot but they really should make certain about things like that. -

Thanks Moridin...kind of funny that the last link worked eh?
You just need to type the URL in and it will convert it to a hyperlink automatically, no HTML coding needed.

Family Ties
by somebody inanother lie told to the media/public on the jw-medai site.. do you shun former members?.
those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned.
in compliance with the scriptures, however, members can be expelled for serious unchristian conduct, such as stealing, drunkenness, or adultery, if they do not repent and cease such actions.

Thanks somebody
