I remember attending funerals and wondering what people must have thought about us...it sometimes seemed like it was more like a time-share sales scam - lots of people had been conned into a room under false pretences to be 'sold' something.
Very little about the person or real concern for their family.

For My Dad.
by Englishman intoday, the 28 february, is 17 years since my dad died.
every year, on this day, i speak to my jw mum on the telephone, just to say hello mum, i know this isn`t your favourite day.. every year that passes, she tells me that, every morning on this date, when she wakes, she tells herself that today is just another day, there is nothing special about it.. well, today i told her that today was special.
the sun and earth were in the same place, the season was the same.

Question #3 "What will you say?"
by ozziepost inall irregular and inactive publishers will be pleased with the heartwarming news that april will see a special campaign by the elders to encourage you.
yes, don't faint, it must be true because the april kingdom ministry says so.
in fact, so strong is the forecasted encouragement, that it states on paragraph 25 of the insert article:.

The Internet Saves
by anglise inreplying to a thread lower down made me wonder how did those who left the org years ago cope.. today we have access to virtually all the information in the world via the internet, so its not hard to find others who have had the same experiences that you have and to learn from them.. but even just a few years ago this was almost impossible.. when we came into the org in the early 1980's we did reseach as far as we were able but didnt find much in our local library.. so we were caught!!!.
those leaving the org back then must have felt isolated and even more frustrated then we do today.. i can remember being told about protesters outside conventions etc and that you musnt read their placards or take their tracts, but obviously it was the only way they had to try and help those inside the org see the real truth.. surely the thought of such an isolated existence kept many from taking the final steps to freeing themselves.. can any here relate to that.. .

Yes, I've thought about that anglise
It is hard enought now but must have been really tough back then - it does account for some of the growth, the fact that it was made so hard to leave.
Howadays, even if they want to make life really hard for you (like they have with us) it's not that difficult - it's easy to at least find out enough so that they don't frighten you !
It's always nice to be able to chat with people who have gone through similar experiences and understand and can offer advice or just solace.
I have nothing but respect for those that stood outside conventions - I now realise how they were trying to help others and it must have been a very uncomfortable thing to do. -

They did this last year didn't they?
I think it's so that however bad the world-wide report is at the end of the year they can say something like "...nut April had a new peak of Kingdom Publishers".
As the anti-drug campaigns say - "Just Say NO !" -

Are these men appointed by holy spirit?
by zev inone of the things that has bothered me for years, in this organization is how appointments are made.
its alleged to be done by holy spirit.
or by men whose decisions are effected or influenced by holy spirit.

I agree.
I think this is where God is making a HUGE mistake.
When he chooses someone, he tells THEM.
When he wants US to do something, he tells THEM to tell us to do it.
He would have a lot more success if he told US who he had chosen and is he wanted us to do something, tell US, not THEM.
eg. Someone tells you that God has spoken to them and wants you to give them $500. Du-huh! As if...
BUT. If God spoke to me and told me that I had to give someone $500 I may pay a bit more attention.
The thing that God is obviously failing to understand is that ANYONE can claim that they have been chosen by him and everyone with half a brain is getting pretty skeptical about the whole thing. -

Was I the FDS ?
by Simon injust a thought.... at my recent meeting with the elders they accused me of being of the 'evil slave class'.
i responded that there were not two classes as the scripture said "but if that slave..." ie.
it was still talking about the same person or class.. now, if they claim that i have become the evil slave then i must, at some point, have been the faithful and discreet slave.. but, i have never claimed to by such and i'm sure that if it was somehow bestowed upon me that i would realise it (although apparently, the governing body didn't realise it for many years, but that's a separate topic).. are they twisting scriptures to suit themselves?

Are they twisting scriptures to suit themselves? Does what they claim make any sense at all when you really think about it? -

mommy, the other site I did was http://www.jwtruth.com/ but I never really updated it (can you tell I was really angry when I did it?)
The most useful bit is http://www.jwtruth.com/jwt/timeline.asp which shows a timeline of events relating to selectable topics. I think that when I get time I will review that site and maybe re-do it.
I really do appeciate all the kind words and thanks for the forum but I don't think I warrant them. I just do the techie bits (which I enjoy) and I get as much support and help from reading everyone elses posts as anyone does I'm sure. I know Angharad too has found it a real lifesaver knowing that there are people she can talk and chat with who understand.
I think we all contribute and make this site what it is. I'm grateful to everyone who joins in and helps me! -

...and yes, we've just come back from taking the kids to the zoo on a beautiful, bright, sunny morning. They really loved it and I feel so happy being able to take them there, with no feeling of guilt, on a Saturday morning instead of dragging them round knocking on doors.
Plus it tired them out so they're both asleep and we get some peace...ah...
This is what life is all about !
