When Confession To ONE PERSON Was OK.

when i first became a jw, congregations were being run somewhat differently than they are now.

in the 50s, the elder system had just been scrapped, and was replaced by a servant system.. there was:.

the congregation servant.. the assistant congregation servant.. the bible study servant.. these 3 formed the congregation committee.

i recall that period when a 'sinner' could confess to any mature brother...

seeemed to me then to be a veri significant 'advance' toward spiritual maturity...

but then with that system, you could not control, could u??

problem is you have to have access to abc local in columbus, ohio, where the big vs is located..... they are doing a swimsuit show...all thongs and bikinis.... this is on the local news show.

it is so funny hearing the male newscaster talk about the "neutral colors" that are showing for the summer...

on amazing's fine post yesterday entitled "my last kingdom ministry school" he demonstrates the wts' paranoia over keeping its internal workings scret from the r&f.. i make the comment that the wts is acting not as christian stewards when it does this, but as corporate masters.

but i decided to 'taste and see' what is done by those whom the wts decries so much, the churches of christendom.. i went to the anglican church website and what did i find?.

news article in today's paper is entitled "credit catholics for cleaning house" by stanley crouch (new york daily news).

"somehow in our nation we are almost always called upon to lead the way when it comes to things of human concern.. "that is why, after all these years of the catholic church's hiding behind cathedral doors, miters and robes, we should be glad that boston's cardinal bernard law has ignored the dictates of rome and called on his clergy to report to the police all the charges of sexual abuse of children by priests..............."

they are all totalitarian..

led from the top, by a self-perpuating 'control' group.. and all 'elderly'

in my study of chns history, i am fascinated by the similarities between the chinese communist party and jws.

there are slogans and catch phrases that get to be repeated mindlessly

there are quotas, that all are encourage to fulfill.

there is slowly changing dogma, and the expulsion of those who are suspected of heresy..

the expulsion even happens at membership levels, where the local party managment expells those suspected of not toeing the party line.

there is adulation (praise) of the 'leader' -- who pretends a common touch..

the catholic church, jws, the cpa, and so many others..

mankind sure dumb huh????

i am interested in the following incident(s)..... ........the witch-hunt at brooklyn bethel in the early seventies when dozens of bethel boys were disfellowshipped after learning of their midnight trysts in the sauna in brooklyn bethel...... if anyone can provide more detail i would be grateful!!!

i think at least 15 years ago, there were structural changes in connection with the 'title' to kingdom halls.. and what has now been quoted is not veri much different (as i remember)..

it's a bit paranoid to see every legal adjustment as evidence of trickery..

personally, i think it's got more to do with the organisation (as a whole) retaining ownership if the majority in a congregation became apostate..

i'm sure that in many other religions there would be similar precautions..

wwell, this was NOT in the WT so maybe it originated with some apostate -- but it was doing the rounds in OZ -- someone wanted to witness to their marriage partner, so they taught their budgie to witness!!

no kidding darlings!!! the budgie did the job too, and converted the marriage partner -- think it was headed balaams ass!! or some cutsie title like that..

personally, can't see so much great harm in this sort of stuff.... it's a bit like catholics and their little medals -- makes them all feel warm and fuzzy!!!

Info re: Removal from KHs, assemblies.....

the attendants would probably look to an elder for permission to remove him.. i don't know about overseas, but in australia they can't remove you from meetings cos if they touch you then that is considered assault.

before last convention jw's were instructed repeatedly not to touch anyone who caused trouble at meetings/conventions but instead to surround the person(s) and call the police.

the speaker doing the talk in the service meeting virtually yelled the "do not" part.. ps in the 40's there was a convention in adelaide and "apostates" rushed the stage and as they rushed the stage a j.w.

yea! i think that "dont touch" policy has been set into stone for decades..

around 1960 at circuit assembly in maffra victoria, which had an active little group of russelites left over... the husband of the leading lady in the russelites (she liked to hold up some mag of the russelites) took umbrage at her being banned from the hall, forced his way in and started an all-in wrestling match with the attendants on the floor in front of the platform. shortly after the police arrived to referre!!

the D.O. was ron walters, who was absolutely furious at the way events turned out.. and read the riot act to the brothers involved, reminding them of the 'don't touch' policy!!

i don't know if it's pussy footing? i think its the course of wisdom to handle it this way!! all in fights make great gossip but are not veri edifying to either side..

what's the point of a brawl?.. if we aint happy we can walk away from them, except they will then df us to make their point -- now that's not too wise either is it???
