Yay!!!! i'm for womens' rights...
my husband beats me too much!!!!
i dedided to post this topic based upon the thread started by jt concerning the latest qfr in a recent watchtower concerning the submission of women.. i've made this point before in a post that in the beginning, according to the bible, god gave both men and women a curse - men to work the fields in sweat making a living, which today entails more than working fields.
and women to experience an increase in birth pains along with their husbands dominating them.
well these days, women have to meet men half way on their curse, because it seems that most families cannot make a living without the woman working.
Yay!!!! i'm for womens' rights...
my husband beats me too much!!!!
ahhhhh the memories, they don't half come flooding back, once one has made a commitment to follow through with this.. my very first earliest memories are from 1.5 years old.
i was standing on the private beach at the foot of trebah gardens http://www.trebah-garden.co.uk with my mother, and my then 3 going on 4 years old, sister tracy.
can still locate the exact spot, plus the dreaded long walk back up through the garden, uphill all the way to the house, behind the main house, that then belonged to donald healey, owner of the austin healey sports car company.
tole u b4 celtic -- u r an interesting guy.....
interesting memories -- bit like the way my kids remembered the truth...
i just posted this on teejay's thread, but in case some didn't read that thread i will repost it here, the enhanced version, because i believe it deserves its own thread.. recently, my parents visited with me.
(the great apostate, can you believe it?).
technically, they were here to visit my kids and husband, as i am df'd [8>].
i'll add my voice (fingers) to consolation 4 u 2 lisa....
it is sad, but cheeeee!! some families fight all the time anyway..
my ex-wifes parents must have been the most zealous in all oz.. (LOL)..
when we visited them the conversation was always on a "high theocratic plane", until somehow the shit hit the fan, and there would be a blazing row...
don't know how many times we had to terminate a visit because of a family row......****
aaah! Yeah! things are different in dub city!!!!
ps my former mother-in-law (gwennie james) just died... cancer...
felt kinda sad for her.... they got the "truth" a year or so b4 me.. went to the old sydney central at first....
everything centred around their future in the N.O . now their is no future for gwennie..
Oh! sorri forgot the resurrection.... yeah ....!!!!!!

**** gotta share this one -- we were visting them in canberra one winter , the day temp was about 5 degree.... second daughter tania was about 18 months old, still in nappy..
we are sitting inside by the heater in their crappy "pioneer" accomodation. gwennie takes tannie for a walk outside. then we here this tremendous scream from tannie..
we all raced outside to find that tannie had dirtied her nappy so gwennie had hosed her down with cold (almost freezing) water.....
my ex-wifes protests, led to a lecture about spoiling children (a perennial theme)... the usual blazing row, and another terminated visit to da folks....
so cheer up darling lisa --- it coulda been worse.....!!!
ok, we all know the old wt routine of inserting a question from readers at the back of the wt.
here's one for this forum.. i'm going to set the stage for my question.. jah is a holy and an exacting god.
he does not tolerate uncleaness/ sin and this was shown in the experience of the first human pair.
gumby....
not being corrective...just that a deep (repressed) memory stirred when i read your comment...
Even unintentianal sin, or a little goof-up is sin....deserving of death
so i wiped dust off my old copy of NWT largeprint, turned to the well marked (with notations) pages of 1 john 5:16 ... and yes, just as i recalled ...""if anyone catches sight of his brother sinning a sin that does not incur death...... etc, etc, etc...
i ain't gonna get bogged down in semantics...
and yes, i know that in other places it is clear that sin = death..
so just shows how difficult to interpret a book written by men....
as an ex presiding overseer and public affairs spokesperson who is now disfellowshipped!!!
i am new to this site and have read with keen interest the many and varied topics that have been posted.
during my 9 years of presiding i encountered certain corrupt c/os for example the friends would treat them like little demy gods, hanging onto their every word, they would, on their visit influence the brothers to part with cash for privledges.
if we say that ALL are corrupt, when they clearly not, we are no better than they are when they use some of their propaganda terms.
i've been out for 13 years so i may well be out of date, with what is happening in there now....
but i have to say, that in my experience, there were some wonderful guys that served on the circuit, they believed and they genuinely tried to help others.
some were veri practical in their help - in oz, peter brusaschi and frank mappin (both dead) were like that.
some were talented and could have made more money outside, if they had wanted to...
some had had families and went into full time service when their families grew up.
some had their idiosyncrisies -- yeah, and some had likes on the "showy" side - D.H.Maclean springs to mind, but even for him, (and I never got to know him that well, tho he was on the circuit when i came into dub city in 1953) when he stayed with us once, i could see something spiritual underneath.
i do not like christianity, i consider myself a POST CHRISTIAN but it is NOT a total negative whether we are talking about dub city or any other group of god-botherers.
here is a serious question, asked seriously, where does all the cash that the watch tower receives, end up?.
we take it for granted that much of their income is used to run the various headquarters and branch office buildings, including the materials used in printing their publications.
travel costs would account for a sizable amount of expenditure.
my understanding of the money situation in oz, is the same as ozzieP, NY directs the moving of money around the world on a 'as needed' basis..
i don't see anything sinister in this.
in oz, i was once fairly good friends (in same cong. for a long time - with wallace baxter (dead now) who was treasurer for many years... he was the epitome of discretion, but told me that a very high standard applied to the society's accounts.
and i don't see much evidence of money getting siphoned off for a personal benefit.
I do see some 'special treatment' of people as they rise up the ladder, but not really any different to other religions.
what is interesting is the paranoi which surrounds the money --- as evident in propolog's comment.
in todays' world, they would be much more sensible to just print everything on a transparent basis...
when you hide things -- then everyone immediately gets suspicious!!!
anyone in australia heard this one... .
apparently sometime in the 1980s a congregation in south-east melbourne had half its publishers resign due to those publishers reading apostate literature.. true?.
from ak
the bomb was the work of a disgruntled husband ( and former brother)....
he packed it with nails. and set it under or near the platform (memory gone hazy)
the speaker for the day was david winder**, a former bethelite and CO. he had his clothes blown off -- and was indeed lucky not to die.
can't remember the year -- maybe 20 years ago.
** was also chairman of me df committee.
how many of you are now atheists or agnostics?
how many of you have actually converted to another organized religion?
personally i find myself doubting anything and everything i learned about the bible and religion.
can' believe christianity any more...
can't believe the bible anymore...
(Why!! -- well, i know that my sexual feelings came from within - not without...what i am is natural for me)..
but!! i appreciate spirituality -- especially the 2 spirit stuff that gay men have always been associated with ...
i also like taoism
and some things about buddhism (watching thais in thailand demonstrated spirituality in a way that i never say in the city of dubs).
and - i want to be buried with hindu rites - really beautiful funerals!!!
thought i'd share some of my experiences with you all!.
sister x, was somewhat of an enigma in the congregation, certainly a 'one-off'!
allegedly she suffered from an 'illness' that incapacitated her at strangely convenient times!
this is a really interesting aspect of life in dub city!!
"the govt. belongs to satan.." "we are NO part of the world " and all the other shit they go on with.
but, they all know where to run when they want some financial help..
i watched for years as my former father-in-law, a well known name in some parts of OZ, and a former circuit overseer fought a running battle with the oz federal govt. to try to obtain a full pension as an ex-soldier (and POW) ... he was capable of supporting himself...but wanted this pension so that he could pioneer... when he exhausted all avenues and was finally rejected, he wrote abusive letters claiming prejudice on the part of the officials
as i said .. a really interesting aspect of jw psychology!!
syn had a funny little dittie about jw's and trekkies here:.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=29001&site=3.
what do you get when you put a bunch of computer literate star trek fans together on a forum?
it was so stated in a publication... (as i posted a couple of days ago..!!)
can't remember which book (i think maybe the second of the pocket sized hard covers), but probably in the 60's.
of course, NOT that we WOULD, but as maybe!!!!!!
