a critique of suzi mayhem's theory of god .
i thought, when suzi first posted this, that it was a joke something like john cleese's classic "brontosaurus theory" skit in a monty python episode.
but mr. "dark clouds" has sort of asked me to critique it as if it were a serious theory, so here goes.. i'll address this to suzi, but suzi dear, don't take this too seriously.
Usually, when I say lol, I really just mean "liq", laughing inside quietly. However, after that last post, I really am laughing out loud.
Let me point you to some of your own words that will save you the 50 bucks or so a lawyer would charge to tell you the same thing. "Fair use is fair use."
Before wasting any money, you might want to go to the government page on copyright law, and give yourself a little tutorial.

most coming out are in a serious state of bewilderment, and they look intently and sincerely for something to fill the huge void of lost religion, lost family and friends, and lost fellowship.
they seek some viable spiritual association with others of like mind while at the same time having become very wary of any organized religion.. what is it that eventually draws so many of us (not me) to agnosticism or atheism?

And I notice you have chosen not to further discuss your views with me. You make this outlandish, outrageous statement (the book of Genesis was not intended to be taken literally), and you expect not to get any negative feedback? You think because you have a kinder, gentler Old Testament, that you should be able to speak for God where the old school religionist failed?
You know, the problem with the "truth" wasn't that we were looking for truth, it was that we were doing what you are doing now. Making it up as we went along. Oh sure, we followed along as someone else did the doctrine writing, but we bought into it.
Excuse me if I want at least a modicum of truth with my truth.
So I'll continue to point it out when I see people making up doctrine as they go along. It just isn't a wholesome activity.
Genesis not meant to be taken literally, give me a break! I went thru a (short) period were I tried to make that work. It doesn't. It is what it is, and it is supposedly THE story of mankinds' (and lifes') start on this planet, among other things (all presented as fact).
So throw in a few, "maybe's", a couple of, "I wonder if's", you know, float a theory. You probably wont' hit any nerves if you frame things that way, and you'll give the impression you are looking for truth, as opposed to starting a new religion. (or propping up an old one)

First, I do not take the book of Genesis literally. It was not intended to be.
HA! Read it again. The writers of Genesis most certainly intended for it to be taken literally. They peppered it with "factoid" type details, they never once let on that it was "just a story".
How dishonest of you to say that. Or perhaps your reading comprehension is nil. Either way, you have no business trying to mislead others to your way of thinking.
i had a message to call my mom this afternoon when i got home.

Oh my God what a small world if this happens to be true. Bendrr, I think your sister Toomer may have ended up going to my hall here in Texas the past couple of years. Helping with her daughter? I believe. She has to be in her late 80's, speaks out her answers so loud she doesn't really need the mike, kinda looking around at the audience as she answers (a mini talk). back in the 60's a childless couple could be df'd if they decided to go for a child via artificial insemnation.
the reason given was that the wife would be committing adultery by taking another mans sperm into her body, the husband would be just as guilty because he consented to this.. can anyone tell me what the position is now, especially with regard to the newer sorts of infertility treatments?
it strikes me that it would take a very special type of relationship for a couple to put themselves through something like this, should a religious organisation have any input whatsoever in such a personal issue, is this not something that should only be decided by just the 2 people involved?.
I'm remembering how angry I got when I first came across the Societies (lack of) reasoning on this.
It wasn't, at the time, that I even believed that artificial insemination was ok, but rather that even then, the ridiculousness of calling that "adultry" was obvious.
Call it wrong, call it playing God (I don't anymore), but adultry? The arrogance of anyone saying that is, in effect, playing god.

i don't suppose that people write letters to each other much any more.. i was just sifting through some old memorabilia, letters written by my grandfather from the trenches in ww1.
a sad few moments reading letters from my father to his mother exhorting her to stay strong till '75.
he also mentions that i should be back pioneering instead of courting, this, he writes, is the only way for me to find contentment.. then, bingo!
