I left the JW's just over (1) year ago. One of the first things I did was ask as many non-JW's as possible (such as co-workers) what is the first thing they think of when I say "Jehovah's Witnesses". I would usually phrase my question like this: "When you think of Jehovah's Witnesses, what do you know them for?". My point for asking this question was because I wanted to prove to myself that, DESPITE the WT claim that JW's are known worldwide for their love, JW's ARE NOT known for their supposed love by ANYONE that I asked. WITHOUT FAIL, I received three answers from the 30+ people I posed that question to. Answer ONE was: "Waking me up early in the morning". Answer TWO was: "Selling the Watchtower". Answer THREE was: "They refuse to take blood."

"And don't be too proud to change your mind if you find things are different than what you thought."
Gee! Isn't this EXACTLY what you did? Fortunately, you didn't allow the "pride" of being a JW stop you from changing your mind because things were different than what you thought.
Perhaps your mom should apply this same advice to herself.

Today, I had a taste for some Breyer's Mint Chocolate Chip. I bought what, I assumed, was a half-gallon. As I am getting a couple of scoops from the container, something seemed peculiar about it. It seemed to be smaller. Lo and behold, I checked to see the size of it. Sure enough, the container is only 1.75 quarts (instead of a half-gallon, or two quarts).
Ice cream prices (and dairy, in general) are OUT OF CONTROL! The 1.75 quart ice cream costs $5.49 (U.S.). That equals MORE than $11.00 per gallon! How can ICE CREAM cost so much more per gallon than, say, gasoline.
I am officially becoming a Water Ice eater!

Well, at least he now has the resurrection hope!
Stupid rule! Pretend for a moment that Armageddon will actually happen. Let's say Armageddon comes on Friday (the day after this man is executed). Based on the JW belief, he will be eligible for everlasting life. But, the little old woman who gave to the poor and sacrificed things her entire life, will be DESTROYED at Armageddon because of bad timing (In other words, she didn't die BEFORE Armageddon).

Did any of you ever write a letter to the WTS regarding an article, and it got published in the back of the Awake!?
Mostly, they only print letters that are in full agreement with their articles. But, were YOU 'J.G.' from Enland? 'D.S.' from United States? 'P.X.' from Japan?
Or, do you think those letters were a load of crap?
I wrote a letter once. I swore that someone committed a copyright no-no because I saw an ad in a newspaper about 'Condoms'. There was a photo in the ad of a woman riding a horse. Just so happened that the same EXACT photo was in the latest WT. I thought the condom ad was illegally using the WTS photo. Turns out that the WTS purchases the rights to USE many of the photos that you see in the WT's & Awake!'s.
Boy, did I feel stupid for believing (at that time) that EVERYTHING in the mags was created by the WTS.

District Convention vs. Democratic National Convention
by Funchback inwell, this was my first ever glimpse of the dnc.
too bad i was still a loyal dub in 2000 because my hometown of philadelphia hosted the event.
i must say that if the district conventions had live musical guests, or energetic speeches, or if guests were allowed to bring in colorful signs in support of their state and nominee (or, favorite speaker and congregation), or if the brothers giving talks used a teleprompter instead of paper, or if they just made the convention both and educational and fun event, i might just think about going.

I think the JWDC's should have a live orchestra. Each convention can have a guest Governing Body Composer.

Learning not to be judgemental
by eljefe inthe other day i realized that i am having trouble learning not to be judgemental.
as a witnesses i was always looking at others and judging them.
now, this is the most difficult thing to quit doing.

As a JW, I also was judgemental of people. But, after being away from the meetings for one year, I am not judgemental at all. I think this was easy for me to overcome because I never did fully conform to the JW lifestyle. I was only being judgemental of others because nearly everyone around me had this same mentality.

But, even if they did all of those things, I'd still choose the DNC over the JWDC.
