Hello michelle.
Quite a few brits here.
i'm new to this site, found it whilst looking at panarama web site.
are there many here from uk, even lancashire?
if so, please let me know as it would be nice to speak to some ex-witnesses in uk.
Hello michelle.
Quite a few brits here.
i am a person who can get very wound up when simply moving through the city i live in and today was no exception ... grrrrr ... things that annoy me about other peoples behaviour:
spitting on the pavement!
- repeated spitting - step, spit, step, spit !
I woke up this morning, thought about going to work, thought about not going to work.
Guess which won?
Now I'm annoyed with myself.

a goverment enquiry has just eastablished that harold shipman killed at least 215 people.. but they have yet to discover why.in fact why do people do such things?what motivates , what to everyone seams like a sane normal person, to do such things?again why do people abuse children, or why do people lead a religion that is so obivously flawed yet requires people to give their lives under certain conditions (blood etc)?.
the leads me to wonder just how well developed the human brain is.we marvel at its ability to many things, but is it all we think it is?often conflict exists in us when we desire to do things yet realise this could be harmful to others.for some reason we consider it right not to harm others and wrong to do so.animals for example seam to lack such reasoning power.but we have not fully rid ourselves of such basic urges.some humans have a harder time than others in doing what is right.. prehaps as time goes on such people will become rarer , as often they are not atractive to others as mates, and such quirks will dissapear almost completely from humans.. trouble is this reasoning is dangerously close to what the nazis were hoping to achieve.. so is there another way to rid society of such people , or indeed should we?.
also why do you think people do such bad things to each other?

what is the toll of rejection to jw's?.
growing up as a witness you face rejection at every corner.. you go to school aged 5 and soon you are invited to a bithday party.you run home excited, but your parents say you cant go , a tell you to say you are a jehovahs witness.after that you friends are never the same , they treat you as someone different.some won't even be your friends anymore.you go through school having to miss holidays , religious services etc, and you can tell the teachers think you're odd.if your lucky enought to be quite a well balanced personality it may not effect you that much.or does it?.
do the scars of rejection dig deeper than you think?.

As we go older the ministry comes to the fore.Time after time you are rejected.(People used to say its not you thats being rejected, but gods message. But since you are a carrier of that message and a witness is what you are, of course they are rejecting you)Some times people are abusive often just apathetic.
You grow up being rejected at every coner.Does this now shape how you act with other people?
Often with psycological matters we don't notice what is happening to us especially if we know no different.I believed this rejection hadn't effected me much , but then i thought about the way I deal with situations.
I feel the ingrained rejection may have taught me to view other people as judgers of me and has maybe caused me to be too passive in dealing with people.I alow too many things to slip by without doinging anything to promote myself or take charge of the situation.
Have I learnt to think that my message will be rejected?Or that I should keep quite in case people find out things about me they don't like or don't agree with?Did the constant reject cause me to be ashamed of myself in case I was ridiculed for what I believe?
Whatever, I will unlearn what I have learnt, if that has been the case.
Obviously these things will effect different people in different ways.
How about you?
did you know we were being poisoned at meetings?well did you fall asleep in meetings or conventions?.
there you are just had your dinner and the convention is starting back up , its saturday afternoon and that means you've got four hours of talks ahead of you, can't wait.. but then you feel sleepy , very sleepy.. so why did we fall asleep?.
3 reasons.. 1.the talks were boooooooooring.. 2.we were digesting our food and blood was needed from our brians in order to help, since we didn't need it up there antway(see reason 1) it was used else where , hence the sleepyness.. 3.carbon dioxide.all creatures breath out carbon dioxide which is poisonous and also makes you sleepy.usually this doesn't effect us but when you cram a load of people together in a small place this gass collects as it can't get dispersed easilly into the air.with all the yawning from people being sleepy from eating to much food and listening to boring talks( see reason 2) carbon dioxide was pouring out and poisoning us all.. so meetings are dangerous after all.every time we went we were being poisoned by other people.. now thats got to be a good reason not to go..

i recall vividly my teenage years when i was the eldest son of a colourful po.
until you have spent several days residing at the home of the po of a large congregation, you can have no idea what sagas and dramas are played out day after day by the publishers in many congregations.. publishers, ms's, elders, they all want the ear of the po.
in effect, many publishers become totally unable to make even the smallest decision without first of all contacting the po.
Stumbling was just an excuse to moan about people doing things you wanted to do but were afriad to in case jehovah lumped some lightening onto your head.

what a bad idea to wear my shorts while cleaning windows today.there i was merrily cleaning away , as i do , when i could feel a tickling sensation on my legs.thinking it was just some plants rubbing against my legs i carried on.but it got worse so i looked down at my hairy legs to see an army of ants climbing over my shoes and up my legs!.
i'd just been standing on a ants nest and they were not happy ants.. to make this ex-witness orientated, is this a sign of the last days?

Hello .
Even if the leadership is now divided between the governing body , human nature will cause one to be a leader among them.
Typically his opinion will be more resecpted and others will tend to favour him.The way humans work means that someone is always in charge even when we think they aren't .
So even though the is no appointed leader like before , someone certainly is the leader.
two witnesses.
theres much talk in the jw camp of the need for two witnesses to establish a matter, or prove an event is true or false.
two points.one, this principle is found in the old testemant and in the jewish law.if this point is still to be held exactly then why not the many other laws of the isrealites?

Why are trials (judical matters) held in privite when in Isreal they were to be public?
Two, if this is the case the the testomony of say the apostale john can be discounted as he had no witnesses to his visions, as did hardly any of the bible writers. Also Charles Russell we need someone to prove he was chosen by God as his word was not enough, it is not enought to agree with him but they would have to witness the event of his being chosen.
Basically if they are going to apply this principle in matters of child abuse then they must use it else where. No one can make a claim as a witness and expect it to be believed."I placed two mags today" "got any witnesses?" sorry I dont believe you.
Why arent they?Because it obviously flawed to use this universally. When then is it used in matters were the accusation could bring reproach to the church?

a lot of us here are probably a bit gutted that we got things so wrong, with believing all that witness stuff.it may have humbled us somewhat and made us think more deeply about things before jumping in the deepend.. but you are not alone in being wrong.in fact having wrong beliefs and ideas on the world and life etc is an entierly normal feature of humanity.through out history most people have lived their lives in complete or partial ignorance as to the workings of this world, but due to the brains nead to have a structure and pattern to think by, have believed wrong things.the earth is flat, mice grow from rags, a shock can to a mother causes deformities in babies, amongst countless others.. even today in our "enligthened "world there is no concensus among all humanity regarding what is right.there are millions of catholics, hindus and people of other relgions.there are many theories as to say the workings of the mind or the origin of life.no one knows the answer to every thing.all we can do is try to learn as much as we can , and to be balanced and reasonable about what we believe , chosing maybe to not be so dogmatic on issues that we cant really know the answer to.. all humans believe wrong thing , sometimes in quite a major way, but we have had the oppurtunity to learn that no matter how strongly we believe something to be true, it may not be.
