about a year ago, i decided to drift into a meeting in my old congregation.
who knows, maybe i thought by doing so my mother would love me again....but anyway - i noticed that there were 5 or 6 of the same "diehard jw" families there but otherwise all the people were completely different.
it seemed that 3/4 of the congregation left and their seats were taken by a new group of converts.
Kinda the same thing where I am. It seems like every week or so, my mom has a different disfellowshipped/reproved story to tell me. All of these people are around her age (55'ish), been in the borg anywhere from 20-40 years and are being df'd for immorality and such.
Guess they decided life was too short to have to sleep with the same person night after night after night after night......

one thing over the years that i have noticed about jehovah's witnesses is that they love to drink, especially bethelites....have you too noticed this?
and why do you think this might be the case?

early this morning i noticed a couple of racoons in my back yard searching for food.
there's a huge park/forest in my back yard.
i quietly opened the door and left some treats for them.
My 2-year old son all the time, but especially when he calls me Baby (like his daddy does).

when you were a jw, remember those little things that made you happy on the inside but "sad" on the outside.
for example, the meeting ending early or better yet, being cancelled.
i recall a few years back the society was pushing sunday field service.
I, too, remember the joy of a power outage and the warm fuzzies I got when the brother scheduled to deliver the Sunday Talk had car trouble.
...and those beautiful spring showers that would stop field service in its tracks!

i'm a little confused.
I was raised a witness, but never baptised--rebelled when I was 15. Now some 15 years later, I still carry around the JW baggage. Just can't seem to shake it!

i was raised a witness, and i was always told that demons were everywhere.
i was told that if you let your mind open to "wrong" thinking that demons will invade you and take over.
and just about anything could get you demonized.
This thread brought back so many memories...the exorcist, SMURFS , Bewitched. I was devastated when they announced from the platform that the Smurfs were demons and Witness children would do well not to watch.

i'm not starting a flame war.
this is something that i've thought a lot about since i have two dogs.
You must have been reading my mind! My mother joined the JW's when I was 6 years old, so I had not developed any real social skills. When I turned 15, I decided that enough was enough and I was old enough to decide not to attend meetings anymore (loooooong story). Having not been able to join any clubs or play sports, I had a hard time relating to my peers on their topics (anything non-JW).
It wasn't until my college years (yes, I was allowed to go to college) that I learned to confidently talk to people, have friends of the opposite sex who weren't JW or schoolmates, and interact with people in social settings.
I still have a hard time when I do or say things I think might incur the wrath of Jehovah, but its an on-going process that gets better everyday.
