how many years of secular education are advisable for children in christian households?
today, there are many teenage baptized servants of jehovah... how far should they go with a secular education?

for those of you who have an interest in jw history, and have studied it, what do you see as the similiarities and differences between russell and rutherford.
now, i am not looking for superficial answers like, they were both full of shit.
i am looking for some content here.
Russell disliked organized religion and produced a kinder, gentler generation of people, more Christlike. This was my grandparents generation. Rutherford was bombastic and intolerant which put a chip on the shoulder of many in the organization and its subsequent generation.
I could be corrected on the following: I have my doubts if Rutherford wrote any books that carry his name, I would guess there was a silent author (Franz, F?).
i was laughing at the thread talking about the blue smurfs, how demonic they were.
:) it made me remember other stupid phobias the witnesses had, and how easy rumours were to spead around.
one for instance, was the false rumour about proctor and gamble, and how their business emblem/ picture/ whatever you call it was demonic, and how it was the sign of the devil, and to stay away from anything to do with that company.
Yup, I remember the same phobias also. In the mid 60s M & M's
were supposed to have blood in them, which may have been tied
in with the lecithin phobia, who knows? Of course the Proctor and
Gamble thing. One not mentioned was the fantastic amount of
eggs vultures and other carrion birds were laying...getting ready for
Armaggedon. Of couse this was debunked by experts.
how do I get rid of these double spaces?

on the net you see many talk about 1975 and how it affected so many.
obviously, some left the organization when nothing happened in 1975. were you personally affected by 1975?
has the fixing of dates been a major reason for your disappointment with the witnesses?
It didn't bother me. What bothers me is the denial of it all. With the great
influx of people into the organization, no one pulled the reins in. DOs and COs
kept the hype going and then later the rank and file gets blamed for reading
too much between the lines.

TO FRIENDLYFELLAL:
This cartoon is typical of those published by the WT in the
'30s. It may have been in the Golden Age magazine. The clergy
was always depicted as fools. J F Rutherford hated the clergy.

i just talked to a friend who is still a jw and she said there was a letter read last night at her k.hall that said that what was on dateline was a lie and not to listen to it.
i asked her if she watched the show and she said yes she had and she couldn't believe the lies that they told.
she also said " oh but did you see that girl erica larson was wearing a cross on her necklace?
FRANCOIS:
I think you have been watching too many spy movies.
The odds of that theory working are staggering.

To Farkel:
Can't see any value to different letters, everyone hears
things a little different anyhow and interpretation isn't
the same.

I was there and heard the letter read. I made sure to
listen to it very carefully. There was absolutley nothing
said about not watching the show. The name of the show was
not mentioned in the letter.
JUST THE FACTS

letter was read at the meeting tonight during the service meeting.
probably because of the dateline thing.. several points brought out, cant remember them all:.
1) sexual abuse is bad.
Actually to be fair, in the letter read at the Service Meeting,
this is how the "two witness" rule is explained:
If a molestation is reported by two witnesses on separate occasions,
the testimonies can be combined.
if you darn apostates would keep up with the latest rags and attend the meetings against your will, you would see for yourself the direct link between the governing body and the appointment of elders.. in the last study of the march 15, 2002 watchtower, page 14 paragraph 7 gives you the damning evidence that you have been looking for.. ...our leader uses this governing body to appoint qualified men--whether spirit-anointed or not--as elders in the local congregations...the recommendations and appointments are made after prayer and under the guidance of the holy spirit.
additionally, the individuals appointed give evidence of producing the fruitage of that spirit...these appointed men receive direction from the governing body and willingly shepherd the congregation.
in this way, christ is with us now and is actively leading the congregation.. can the italicized portion above be any clearer?
TO DUTCHIE:
They are not referring to two classes of elders; "spirit
anointed" meaning part of the 144,000.
