Try this on for size....I'm a black latina....many hispanics are black. Hispanic is a culture, NOT a race. I'm also female and hold a degree....and still in school working on another one. MOST JW's that I know, (I was a JW from 85'-97) are uneducated...which is just the way the Society wants them. It's not that different than slavery....at one time it was illegal for blacks to learn to read and write. To keep a people docile you must keep them ignorant.

Tina, just wanted to let you know that Cathy in Chicago is trying to get in touch with you, she just moved and lost your email address. If you still have her address, she wants to hear from you. If you need it, hit me up, [email protected] just be sure you put something in the subject line or I won't open it.
Thanks, Soylibre

How do you find exJW groups in your area?
by Eyebrow ini was wondering if anyone could tell me how to find out if there are any groups in my area.
where would i begin to look?.
i am a little bit nervous, because i don't want to get involved with people who are looking only to berate the witnesses...but people who are getting on with there lives after leaving.

7th Day Adventists / Child Sexual Abuse
by Amazing inthe seventh day adventists are cousins of the watch tower religion.
i went to their web site at http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/main_stat41.html to see what they say about various topics.
the adventists, like jehovah's witnesses, believe in a new earth, a paradise, etc.

I also agree with Amazing....by involving the proper agencies, one can be assured that the authorities would automatically be called. I worked for Planned Parenthood as an interpreter for over a year and anytime a minor reported abuse/rape, the authorities were immediately called.....this just stands to reason.

My husband is an SDA and was just appointed an elder in his church....they are much more qualified than JW's to deal with such issues.....SDA's as a whole encourage higher education they have schools from pre-school to Universities and all of their pastors (not elders) must hold degrees in theology, (does NOT have to be from an SDA University).....They encourage community involvement and their disaster relief progrom Adventist Disaster Relief Assoc? (ADRA) helps ALL people NOT just SDAs....they also have the freedom to speak out an disagree....and can write their own literature if they choose to....

Please help me with the forum
by Simon inkeeping a balance in what is allowed and what is not is very difficult and is more difficult if i have to take action against one person when i have let other things go by others.. it would help a lot if we could stop the personal attacks and some of the name calling & insults that are thrown about.
i know personalities do and will clash but please disagree about the subjects being discussed and not get personal!.
if you think someone is deliberately trying to cause arguments please do not respond to them as this is giving in to what they want.

Holidays: Do you celebrate?
by Vitameatavegamin ini smell something burning; oh, just me thinking again!!.
anyway, one thing i always missed were the holidays-christmas especially.
i know that this is an unproven celebration to say the least, but i have always loved the warmth and beauty of this holiday, although very commercialized in this day and age.

I love all holidays, I think they are an opportunity for families and friends to draw close together and share traditions.....Last Thanksgiving we had dinner with other EX-JW friends and we had about 15-20 exJW's at our house for Christmas dinner....we had a great time and I enjoyed it thoroughly and I have a two-year old who I look forward to celebrating with more fully this year....He didn't really know what was up last year... I love birthdays....they're so special...I think traditions are good, they're what bind people together....I say do it....and do them all....hell I'll celebrate them all....from Ground Hog Day to New Year's Day!

I believe in God....I believe in goodness....I believe in being a loving and kind person.....I don't know how much I believe in the bible anymore....it's validity as the end all to all things spiritual...I am now a more spiritual person than I ever was as a JW... I was religious when I was a JW....now I have no religion...
