two years ago I saw one of the GB at a convention. He was so old and his talk was so boring...same old "great things ahead!!" junk. At the end he did some spin thing with his cane and pointed it up at the crowd and everyone applauded a lot. It was in philly and it was raining. I wasn't happy.

for those who "grew up in the borg"
by zev inat this late, middle stage of my life, i've started wondering, now that i know what i know, about the things in my life that i "lived" with.
having been raised all my life in the "borg" i have known nothing else.
when questions began forming years ago, it started me thinking.

Just thinking that everyone's experiences on this board just goes to prove that the problems with the borg are NOT because of small numbers of individuals "stumbling" others...you can't deny that these problems are coming from the organization itself if everyone is having the same experiences with it.

I love this stuff about not being required to do donate money. Try using that line when the elder in charge of accounting is telling the cong for the 3rd week that if they don't "donate" they're going to be in debt. Even though you're not required to, everyone knows they still have to. I also love it when they set up things like "local needs" funds in the cong, for the people who are too lazy to get jobs. I knew some people in a hall in Maryland that were getting that money...there was no reason why they didn't have a job. They were just plain lazy, and everyone else was supporting them. They weren't even pioneers or even auxilary pioneers!

You don't get any cookie by visiting their site. They can always log it on their end and still know when you're going on their site, but they don't put anything on your computer. I just checked.

Protecting Children From Sex
by LucidSky inwith controversy surrounding a soon-to-be-published book entitled harmful to minors: the perils of protecting children from sex ( http://more.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/dailynews/childsex_book020405.html), it is apparent that attitudes may indeed be changing in our society in regard to sex among youths.
instead of being totally avoided, they may be given encouragement to practice sex (obviously within safe limits) with other youths or even adults.
some cultures already encourage something like this.. socially, it seemed that boys were given subtle encouragement to "score", while girls were always viewed as the innocent victims to be protected from such lustful young men.

No...and I think there's some polls out there that show that a majority of teens right now say that they won't allow their children to do the same things that they themselves are doing. I know from experience it's very easy for things to get out of hand...and one mistake can ruin the rest of your life. Better safe than sorry.

I've never been to the Hall here, and I don't intend on it. I quit being a dub 2 years ago, before I even moved here.

my story
by spender inhey everyone...i'm new here and i thought i'd give you my story.. i was raised in "the truth".
my mother is still a witness of over 25 years, and a pioneer for over 10. my father is not in the truth.
he was supportive of my mother in her pioneering and everything, and he used to come to meetings occasionally when i was younger, but started coming less and less until he only came to the memorials.

that's what you get for working with corporate america! If you've made a name for yourself, they don't care about any of that. It helps if you can show them things you've written with your knowledge...I know lots of certified people that are certifiably dumb. I did one day get bored and went to brainbench.com for some free legit certifications. I think I'm certified in 12 things now...some of which are linux administration, windows administration, word, C, korn shell scripting, network technical support...etc. I would be certified in much more, but those were the only free ones ;)
I don't like c++...it's got silly rules. At least C actually follows the rules it has. I like working on the lower level, and in certain cases, that's the only option you have (I do operating system development). Generally all UNIX-related programs use C, except for the newer and larger stuff like MySQL et al.

JT - we're both right and wrong
by bluesapphire ini just wanted to tell you that i found information in an old catechism.
basically, it shows that *some* archdioceses abstained from meat on all fridays prior to vatican ii.
it is up to the bishop of each archdiocese and most dioceses in the roman catholic rite in the us had that.

I agree with everything you said JT :)
