One thing Katie has already gone over is Scientology. She was asked if she is a Scientologist and if she had looked into it herself.
"I have looked into it myself and I really like it and I think it's really wonderful," said Katie.
Has she tried any auditing?
"Yeah, yeah," said Katie. "And it's really ... I feel like I'm bettering myself. So it's great."

Of course, this could also just be a ploy to get people to watch their latest movies, Batman Begins and War of the Worlds.

Update to Shawn's Story

it has been a while since i last updated everyone.

i am doing so now because i think people going through what i am need to know that there is hope and although sometimes it may seem impossible, it isn't.

i am going to assume that anyone reading this post is familiar with my story.

Good luck to you both Shawn! It will be very difficult for her, but I'm sure you will find a way to support her emotionally through this. You can always show her this site if she needs to talk to others who have gone through this.

Lost our Kitty...

you remember about a month ago i had asked you all for ideas on how to deliver johnny cats medication for hyper-thyroid issues (which worked beautifully, thank you!)..

well, it finally happened... we took johnny cat in to the vet because he was having seizures.

it scared the crap out of us when it happened.. when we got there, the vet told us he had lymphoma and it would only get worse rapidly.

It used to really upset my mum that the witnoids worked so hard to bring in new recruits when all the time there were thousands of witnesses leaving. She said they should have focussed their energy on looking after the flock they had (like loving shepherds).

Here's something I learned in a recent business class, but it could probably also be applied to the business of religion:

It costs 5 to 6 times more to attract a new client than to maintain an existing one.

You lose 1 out of 5 clients who have problems with your service.

It takes 12 positive client service interactions to make up for one negative.

I guess that what Jesus said about the one lost sheep was spot on, huh?

I heard all the hype, and then finally tried one. There are much better ones down at our local donut shop as far as I am concerned.

I just wish they could come up with some as funny, cute, and entertaining as the Taco Bell dog. I miss that little guy.

i just can't believe it!

after sending the elders a letter (see http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/91796/1.ashx) we get a letter from elder s. that he understands that families are busy, can't be reached for short notice meetings, yada yada yada.

so they are setting another meeting for june 12. .

They just don't get it, do they? Actually, when I sent them my letter of DA it was terse and to the point. It still took them 5 or 6 weeks to finally let it go and let me go. They did everything they could to try to "save" me.

So write and tell them this:

We are sorry you couldn't stop by for our daughter's birthday party. We had such a great time there and enjoyed it so much that we are looking forward to doing it again next year. We just can't give up such a wonderful pagan practice.
So in light of this please do not consider us Jehovah's Witnesses any longer.

Hopefully they will let it go, but I suspect that they are under the gun lately to stop the "hemorrhaging" of their ranks, as someone else here reported recently. I wouldn't be surprised if the DO and CO have put some pressure on them and the JC is their best way of accounting for their failures.

Ice. I never could understand why we Americans have to have ice in everything we drink. And just try to order your beverage or water without it, and they look at you like you are committing treason.

Sooo....anybody know of any IT jobs in Oregon? (Or...anywhere?)

i've been working at a telephony company doing primarily sql database stuff for the past 7 years, and the last year of that telecommuting from oregon (they didn't want to lose such a valued employee, so made arrangements for that).

unfortunately, our ceo died recently (within the past 6 weeks), the resulting turmoil with investors and customers is causing the company to go out of business.

should last out the end of the month, but, then, that's it.

I know of a job in Salem that may be opening up in the area of ASP.NET development and SQL Server Admin. Right now it is opened internally to staff for transfer, but if they don't get a certain level of response, then they will have to open it to the public. If it does get taken by one of the staff, then their position will also open up, same thing, but at a lower grade of pay. You will be working in a position of a woman who arranged a very early retirement, taking a financial hit, just to leave this place and a supervisor she couldn't stand, so be warned. I'll keep you posted.

I think some of you are taking my words out of context. They are not a good group. Some of their members are good people, basically, but misled. They have some good points. I still don't see them as totally evil. But the little good that they do does not mitigate all of the harm they have done.

I believe there are also cases related to freedom of speech that were won by the American Nazi party too, if memory serves, but that doesn't mean that they are a nice group of people.

I do think that as a whole our society would be better off without their Watchtower Society. And yes, they are self serving in what cases they bring to the high court. However, these cases would have been considered eventually, even if the JWs hadn't initiated them in the course of pursuing their own selfish interests.

In the meantime, our freedoms as Americans have been upheld by their cases, and that is a fact. I do have the right not to state the pledge of allegiance. I also have the right to refrain from saying "under God" when I get to that phrase in the pledge, which I do take advantage of, since I do not believe in God. I am not persecuted because of it. It is important that we have those rights, but I also happen to think that those are our basic rights as Americans and would have been recognized by the courts eventually without the JWs. They just happened to bring those issues to the court first.
