  Doubting our own intuition - reality vs. reality

  when someone asks about the jws, i usually find myself talking about disfellowshipping, the blood issue, the child-molestation problem.

  but looking back i think, although those are the easily explained and perhaps somewhat sensational bad things about being a jw, they're not the only things that have left their marks.

  in fact, only the disfellowshipping issue has personally affected me (although i'm not officially df'd, but of course you don't have to be to lose your friends/family).

  how many of you ex-jw's salute the flag, sing the national anthem, and are ready to kill in a war for the usa?

  How many of you ex-JW's... salute the flag? Yes, but I'm atheist, so I say the classic flag salute. (I pause when it comes to the part that includes "under God") sing the National Anthem? Yes, but not very well (it's a really hard one to sing --- there is this one set of really high notes!) are ready to kill in a war for the USA? (depends on whether it is a necessary war or not. If we were attacked and are defending ourselves, yes (think Pearl Harbor). If we start the war, then every sort of diplomacy should have been used to reach a resolution first, and we shouldn't rush into it based on lies, and if it is a war that I feel is morally wrong, I speak out against that war, not my country, to hopefully make my country better) Tammy

  New Here Sorta

  i stumbled across this site last august and created an account but a series of events led me to run away (i can post the story if you like) and i have been moving around a bit until i finally got settled some.

  along the way due to my mother's sheltering i had some bad experience because i didn't know as much about the real world as i should have.

  i ingested as i have before a psychoactive one night and a surge of memories came rushing back to me of my childhood and a massive handfull of them were tied to the time i was made to endure going to the kingdom hall and socializing with many members outside of.

  It's funny how these people don't realize that 06/06/06 occurs once every century.

  Not to mention that our calendar didn't exist until another fifteen centuries after Revelation was written. The reporter is right. It's just a bunch of superstitious hogwash for people too stupid to use good ol common sense! Tammy

  wow, this one really got my attention.

  gordon, and ej-jw from across the pond has broadcast his email which is an unequivicating diatribe and prediction of doom for the brooklyn bethel complex on or near the beast day : 6-6-06. well here's his email in it's entirety, feedback is welcome.

  i heard the fbi showed up to question him when he visited nyc recently to deliver a warning message to brooklyn headquarters.

  The problem is when that day comes and nothing happens the JWs will say see, he was a false prophet and Jehovah is with us, protecting us!

  What I don't get is the 6-6-06 reference? 666 is the beast's number in Revelation, but how can you tie that to a calendar? What calendar? Gregorian apparently, not Jewish, Chinese, or Mayan. I guess God doesn't know anything but the calendar with all of the Roman and Norse gods in it.

  OK, lets say the Gregorian calendar for argument's sake. It's a relatively new calendar, ordered by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. So it didn't actually begin January 1, 0001. What about all of the missing days where the calendar had to be readjusted during the change from Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar? Depending on which country you were living in there were missing days in 1582, 1584, 1700, and 1752. France, Rome, etc lost 10 days. The British and the Americas lost 11 days.

  OK, lets say for arguments sake that is is the Gregorian calendar and that we don't care about when it was invented or when January 1, 0001 actually occurred. What about June 6, 0006? What happened then? Jesus was about six years old. What about June 6, 1006? What happened then? Both of these dates where also 6-6-06, so what major cataclysm occurred on those dates?

  Nothing.

  And I predict that on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 no world shaking event will occur in the religious world except that a lot of pious faces will turn red -- with embarrassment!
