This is my greatest frustration with my dad's involvement in the Borg; I know in my heart that he is an intelligent person. Jeez, he's the one who taught me so many of the things that still make up who I am today; how you always have a choice, so many things. And yet he continually buys into this crap; and not only does he buy it, he sells it too!!

okay, we've talked to death about the crazies in our congregations, and i'm sure we've discussed the grouches (read: boe) but was there anyone in your congregation who was super-nice to you?.
in my congregation (i was in the same one from birth to age 18 when i left) there was an older german couple who had a worldly daughter (grown up, moved out & married) and had a son with down's syndrome.
they lived on a beautiful lake and always had the congregation picnic at their house.

anyways, i was a teenager in eastern canada, new brunswick to be specific.
it was late 1976/77 that i attended meetings.
Hi Ray; my mom is from Chatham and I used to go visit my grandmother there at her congregation in Newcastle. Not really close to the areas you mentioned; but I used to love visiting NB every summer. :) I am from southeastern Ontario.

if a person is disfellowshipped, can they talk to anyone in the congregation?
and if not, what scripture says they (the disfellowshipped person) can not.
and, has anyone ever heard that an elder or someone else suggest a disfellowshipped person wear a letter "d" (the scarlett letter) when they go to public functions like an assembly?

Of course, they would have been that way even if they hadn't been JWs; some people are just nice while others are born grouches.

for me the most boring activity is filling out income tax forms.
i find the most boring person is the dali lama.
just looking at him makes me feel bored.
Chachasmom, I think you misunderstood the title of the post; it's "most boring thing", not "brainpower most matching that of a pile of gravel".
now that my decision to leave the organization is made, there is definitely a sense of relief.
i know i'm leaving a controlling organization, not my faith in god.
so i'm still praying at various times during the day, but it has become a very odd thing now.

i just wanted to alert folks in the viewing area of cbc to the show that they are airing tonight at 9pm on the topic of polygamist communities in canada and the us.
i was watching to see if there was going to be a "trailer" for the jw-child abuse show in two weeks' time.
if you have a chance... watch the fifth estate tonight, and get an idea of how "our" issue is going to be addressed!
Damn, Scully, I saw this too late. And there wasn't anything else on worth watching so I turned off the TV.
remember the watchtower that asked "are jws a cult?
" and then listed things that cleared it of the accusations of being such?
cant remember the date.. anyway one of the things it said was that "cults" usually have a lot of ex members testifying against it and the damage it has caused to their family lives.
