Coming Soon to a Bedroom Near You
by Defender inwhile the world is anxiously looking to the possible war with iraq, there is an interesting development going on in the background that may spell things to come.
as a matter of fact, it may indicate a new direction into a new world order the like of which has not been seen.
everyone is following the news of un inspectors scouring iraq for signs of weapons of mass of destruction, however, the un inspectors took a new action few days ago when they started questioning iraqi scientists.

Woman Are Inferior?
by JH inin the watchtower world, woman are just about nothing.
they hold no responsibilities in the congregation except cleaning the toilets and not much more.
we all know that woman are just as intelligent as men, and some could even be good elders.

"Do you think that the bible is old fashion and underestimates woman? "
These are two separate questions, I think. Do I think the Bible is old-fashioned? I think it's worthless trash. It's barely a history lesson, as so many historical inaccuracies have been found in it.
Does it underestimate women? Given the time period during which it was written, I think it's a bloody miracle that women are mentioned at all. I think JWs in general subjugate women. And unfortunately, most women in the organization allow this to be perpetuated.
Matty: LMAO LMAO LMAO at your illustration. Good one!

JWs blame everything on demons...
by Pronger ini cannot believe how credulous many jws are regarding the religions near obsession with supernatural beings.
apparently young kids misbehaving is a result of demons.
what irritates me the most is that this woman was more concerned with an alleged person with a "dangerous mind" placing the tract she left back on the car, than the fact that she left two children alone in a parked car.

LMAO I remember when I was younger, hearing a story of a little person (maybe 3 or 4 years old) who brought their favourite Smurf with them to the KH, and the Smurf got up and walked out??!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! *sigh* We used to believe this stuff. Gosh.

I am sooooooo not the person I was when I was in the Borg. That person was young, naive, and had no more backbone than a jellyfish. She believed what she was told, because why would someone lie to her? She was Christian, non-political, homophobic, and violently opposed to premarital sex. (LOL - oh, very young!)
If my parents suddenly stopped shunning me......they would not know me. If they expected me to be that same meek young woman who was incapable of standing up for herself (specifically, standing up to them), they would be sorely disappointed. I have become a completely different (better) person; strong, open-minded (yikes!!) and yet a skeptic, agnostic, very politically active, and in matters of sex I am really pretty liberal.
I could never return to the Borg, even if I believed the fundamental religious core, because all the other stuff - the micro-managing by the WT of every facet of the members' lives, the blood issue, the pedophilia, supposed political neutrality, gay-bashing - I couldn't submit to.

My husband doesn't understand this...
by starfish422 inmy husband does not understand what my attraction is to this board.
i come and go on the boards, i'm not a regular by any means, but i find that the boards are a catharsis for me.
my hubby was never in the borg, and he doesn't understand how talking about it, and comparing experiences, and poking fun at the craziness of it all, can interest me.

Even though he has strayed a bit from his Christian upbringing, he says he doesn't feel the need to poke fun at it, and relive the bad experiences of his life.
I have tried explaining the extent of the mind-control of the JWs, and he does understand how they attempt to control every facet of one's daily life. He just has never been a "group" kind of person so he doesn't understand what good therapy it is to discuss this stuff with others who have been through it.
Anyone else in the same place?

Well, when I'm feeling rebellious, I crank up, "If It Feels Good, Do It" by Sloan. I know how much my father would hate it just for the name of it; so when I hear it, I crank it up and sing it at him, even though he's nowhere near me. :D
I don't know if I've ever come across a song that sums up my experience within the Borg, though. I'll have to give that some thought. :)
**edited to add: there is a song out right now called "Bother", I can't remember who sings it but it has a line in it that says "Stones to throw at my creator, the masochist to whom I cater", and that line resonates with me for some reason.

I have no problem speaking in front of a crowd; in fact, I enjoy it.
And I got to know the Bible very well too (although I had trouble with the "What does John 4:14 say?"-type questions). If you started the first few words of a scripture for me, I could finish it, but by gosh, don't ask me where that scripture was!
Being able now to quote the bible gives me an advantage when debating philosophical differences with Christians.
