  Does anytone 'wince' when they hear people talking about God/Jesus etc?

  i went to a born-again christian church wedding a couple of weeks ago.

  in so many ways it was like a kingdum hall.... and the person conducting the wedding was jesus this jesus that..... i just want to roll my eyes.. i think its because i been preached 'at' so much in my life as a dub i dont want to hear it anymore.

  maybe im getting my head round the idea that beliefs and worship are best kept to yourself..... anyone else feel like this?

  Better yet, why don't you put your hand in your pocket and donate $25 to the Red Cross, instead of writing on here complaining about something that makes no difference? ; Really, brother, no one gives a crap what you say.. all they care about is what you do. ; The blame game will come later, but for now there is thousands of people that need help.. and you're just another one that can help them, if you care enough.

  So does my opinion about prayer get you so upset you have to make a judgement of me like that? What do you know about me that makes it possible to say such things? The post asked for an opinion and I gave mine.

  And another thing, I'm not your brother!

  Everytime!

  What especially gets me is the use of the word "pray" I am so sick of hearing people saying they are praying for someone or something. Even though I think it has just become a catch phrase used to convey their thoughts of concern, I've had enough of it!

  A Day for a Year

  the "day for a year"-rule is the basis for some of the fundamental parts of jw-doctrine.

  the 1914-date is based on the "day for a year"-rule (7 "biblical times" is 2520 days, substituting a day for a year, you get 2520 years from 607 bc - 1914 ad, blah blah, you know the routine).

  the bible says a day is like a thousand years: .

  More than once in a public talk I got up and referred to this day for a year thing as a "rule". I think I must have gotten that wording from the outline.

  "Rule" is a strong word, surely the context does not warrant the use of it.

  Katrina Aftermath - whatever happened to personal responsibility?

  ok, all you "bleedin' hearts" get ready to flame me..... i have been watching the developments in the devastated areas like everyone else, and something has begun to strike me.

  there seems to be tens of thousands of people who are just sitting around waiting for help to miraculously drop out of the sky, and the longer they sit idle, the madder they get that the government hasn't swooped in and immediately solved all their problems.

  i have a few questions about this mindset:.

  Maybe I just missed it, but did anyone else see victims of the tsunami standing around yelling demands for help?

  As I watch the news reports, I see many people struggling. A lot of them are busy trying to solve the problem. Some are not able to do anything because of their condition. But there are quite a few others just standing around complaining, actually more than complaining, they are demanding. I have a hard time with that. Maybe it's just my perspective. I've been self employed for 30 years because I am independent and prefer to take care of things myself.

  I think our country has a lot of great social programs, but if for some reason there are unsustainable, we may discover we have created a monster.

  I agree wih you Brandon. If I was in that situation and had to stay and ride it out, I would definitely have put something together just in case, It wouldn't have had to be much. I'd be on the roof with you. Especially if I lived in an area like that.
  

  And if I ran out of supplies I for sure wouldn't be sitting around, I'd be walking. It seems to me that alot of those complaining are used to the government taking care of them through all the programs available and are now demanding what they are used to. To be honest, the groups I see hanging around the streets on the news look like the ones that populate our local welfare office.

  WHY THE MEMORIAL?

  according to christs words at the last supper, his followers were to "keep doing this in remembrance of me" but st paul says that by taking the emblems we are declaring the death of our lord "until he arrives".. the greatest man book (i've been looking at it) says the "arrival of the son of man, jesus christ, with the angels must be invisible to human eyes.

  the arrival occurs in the year 1914.

  if the gb really believe this why are they still doing the memorial road show?.

  I had 2 elders come over and invite me to the memorial last spring. When they were leaving I asked them what their take was on that scripture that says "until he arrives". They asked me if by that comment I thought that they shouldn't be having the memorial. I said it appears that would be the case from reading the scripture. They said they were going to look into it and get back to me. Haven't seen them since.

  I was thinking that, and correct me if I'm wrong, the JW's are the only group that thinks Jesus has already "arrived". For the other groups who are still awaiting him, that scripture doesn't apply, but it sure does for the JW's.

  if someone held a gun to your head and threatened to blow your brains out unless you worshiped jesus and went to church, which christian church would you choose?

  no pansy churches like the unitarians though.

  it has to be a fundamentalist denomination.

  2) when you eventually ESCAPE (and I ran a survey a while back on this page and found that about 80% of the posters on this site were "born intos" that had indeed escaped) you have the pleasure (as I am having now) of RELIVING your childhood with all the holidays, etc, being experienced as brand new! I had my first christmas at 24!! LOL

  Unless your wife is still a loyal dub.
