Accuracy, a tree is judged by its fruit. Many here can testify that the fruits of the Watchtower are hatred, judgementalism, jealousy, self-righteousness, etc. It's time to lay the axe to the roots of such a pestiferous tree, IMO!

help - orwellian 'DOUBLETHINK' kicking in
by alliwannadoislive inreading the watchtower 'readers ask' article (which so clearly is not a reader asking) about 'should we pray for disfellowshipped ones' and i had the horrible feeling of 'doublethink' kicking in - twisted reasoning trying to take me over and allow me to accept the incorrect thinking.
isn't this like a conditioned disgusting habit ?.
is this posting like i'm taking it to the elders ?.

The term "doublethink" is too grand for the crap the WBTS vomits out; I'd prefer "Double Dutch"!

Churches of Christendom worse than JWs.
by Undecided inmy wife is a saved christain.

Christendom's churches don't have a rigid conformity like the Dubs, so you'll find good and bad in all of them. It's because of something you won't find in Dubdom - freedom. You are free to leave if you can't cope with certain aspects of the church and its people, and start again at the church up the road. And no shunning! Sure, you'll drift away from your old circle, but you'll grow a new one. As one who's been affiliated with lots of churches and a member of five, I don't get too worried anymore about finding the perfect church - it doesn't exist! The feeling you have that there should be one and that you are angry because the one you tried wasn't it is probably a hangover from your Dub days. Just find a crowd you get on with and stick to it.

People more vulnerable to cults now more
by Dogpatch inshock, disempowerment, vulnerability.
all of these are reasonable reactions to last week1s horrible attack upon americans and their government and financial institutions, the cultural framework that makes us all feel strong.
"unfortunately, at a time when many americans are feeling down, there is another threat coming from within our borders," says steven hassan, director of the freedom of mind resource center in somerville ma.

Tell me, NYT, how can this discussion board create cultic behaviour? Is there one person or group here who can make everybody abstain from one thing and do something else? No. Your example is ridiculous. The guiding principle here is freedom of expression, which is why you can post what you like. Try speaking your mind at a KH some time! (YOUR thoughts, not those of the collective)

British JW sues Watchtower Society
by Amazing inthis case is about a british jw, on behalf of jehovah's witnesses at large, sued the watch tower bible and tract society of pennsylvania.
this case goes base to 1997, but is interesting in that the british jw man alleged 'defamation of character' against the wts.
he sued over an article appearing in the watchtower magazine.

If you think about it, a large amount of the Tower's literary output is devoted to defamation and slander. Not just of outsiders. What about all the articles which put the burden of the org's failure back on the R&F - they're not trying hard enough, reading enough, etc?

My niece's change of heart.....
by Tatiana inin my never-ending task of trying to get my niece out of jws clutches, i have good news.
just a brief history.
my lifetime jw mom raised my niece from the age of 9 due to my sister's alcohol and drug abuse.

LOL Backfired indeed. Just imagine if your Mum and her sister had approached that letter thing differently. Instead of screaming don't read it, they'd said: "There'll probably be stuff in there which puts Jehovah and his org in a negative light, but we trust you; your faith in Jehovah is enough to withstand such doubts and you're intelligent enough to figure it out. Just check out the issues raised on the CDROM or raise them with the elders." Although we all know how ineffectual the last part of that paragraph is, the impact of the first part, the showing of love and trust would probably have been enough to quell the doubts for a while. The Dubs should have learnt after 75 years that Rutherfordian vitriol doesn't work these days, if it ever did!

Shunning Or Refusing Blood - Which Is Worse?
by Englishman inmost persons who die through lack of blood have made that choice for themselves.
the consequences of such a course of action (often death) generally have an effect which is limited primarily to the individual who is refusing treatment.. however, the victim of a decision to shun has no input into that decision.
therefore the 'victim' of shunning is a helpless recipient of that policy.

I personally think they are both equally wicked, Eman. They both are imposed on people against their natural tendencies from without, and both lead to death in many cases. If the Tower dropped those two policies, they'd pretty well lose most of the agro against them overnight!

What, no-one interested in discussing their pussy with a bunch of Dubs?? I thought the launch of a new club like that would at least get a couple of responses!

For JWs who own pets:
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/alljehovahscreatures
Unfortunately, you need to be invited to join by the founder. Can't have any apostates making remarks about pets that might not meet the approval of Writing!
What's with this, anyway? I thought pet ownership was one of those grey areas where certain anally retentive elders can use it to beat you with should they feel like it! Along the lines of: "Pets take up too much time and resources that can be better used in Jehovah's service".
