Hippie >> But they were merely quoting, they were not themselves stating that Man and Nean had common ancestry. They were just trying to state that Nean was modern, and therefore a variation of man such as pygmees and inuits are different.
The wts may have tried to say that. But they are wrong in this just as the wrong in every other thing they say. Most scientists consider Neanderthals - H. neanderthalensis- a separate species from modern humans, or else a subspecies - H. sapien neanderthalensis. They were sufficiently anatomically different from modern humans to be classified this way. To argue that Neanderthals were merely a race of modern humans is to completely ignore the scientific evidence.
Interestlingly there now seems there were a number of species of Homo that were contempories of modern humans. H. floresiensis was a small human that lived up till about 15000 years again what is now Indonesia. And a number of other species are also being researched at the moment.
