  That could be applied to JWs too, come to think of it! In fact, I think I read somewhere here recently some posts outlining this line of reasoning of how it is the WITNESSES are the ones who fulfil most of these prophecies. How ironic if it wasn't so gosh-darned hilarious.

  Don't forget the Ezekiel passages that God can change his mind and/or direction at any point at any time! So the apocalyptic prophecies or anything else for that matter ARE NOT a foregone conclusion.
  
  When it comes to God's intentions, nothing is carved in stone. That is why Jesus taught to pray as God's Will Be Done. Many people have made revisions to their earthly wills; and for good reasons in many cases. The BIG picture is what God most certainly keeps in mind in the macro affairs of this earth.

  Who knows for sure what will happen? To arrogate to oneself accurate knowledge of this while being students is the real sheer folly. We are ALL Bible students; we are all LIFE's students!

  That's the problem I have about the Society dogging other religions and developing dogma based on trying to be "unique" and different from everyone else. This shows up in spades in not celebrating holidays, for instance. But if you come right down to it, every time we breathe we could be following Pagan traditions; whereas the spirit of Christmas is thrown out with the bathwater! Could you imagine what would happen if no one celebrated Christmas or suchlike holidays at all? It's a world that I wouldn't want to live in. Failure to look at the positive aspects of things is the downfall of the WTBTS, and it's their loss. Too bad for them. The earlier Bible students had it better: at least while celebrating holidays, they humbly accepted the title of "students" and didn't make as many outrageous claims. Now they have, by the accumulated evidence presented in this forum over the past several years in this (and H20) forum, have lost complete credibility. That is why my posts carry the below-mentioned signature.

  How we Know that Evolution is a Fact

  there has been a number of threads related to evolution in the last month or so.

  some posters, like penn, subscribes to a form of creationism, which i for this purpose will define as denial of large scale evolution (sometimes called macro-evolution).. even saner people sometimes alleges that scientists are unnecessarily 'dogmatic' about evolution, and that this is 'just a theory.

  ' these people may be recent exjws or jws, still believing the watchtower propaganda against evolutionary science, or accepting similar claims from various fundamentalist preachers and groups.

  Absolutely Mox. By having the debate two-sided, it creates this "us-versus-them" dichotomous mentality, whereas there are actually multiple vantage points even in evolutionary research. Fundamentalists, unfortunately, seem to be the ones predominant in using this as a wedge issue.

  BTW, excellent posts Jan and Mindchild showing these variations in discoveries.

  dad was a minsteral servant, and mom was an auxleary pioneer.

  And, research unseen, per capita the Witnesses have to be among the highest Ritalin users. How sad. Absolutely, in our case GOING to the meetings was bad association for our child and he's MUCH better off elsewhere in athletic and stimulating "worldly (ugh)" activities.

  My mother in law

  my husband and i was talking today about some things that was said receintly.

  about a month before my husband and i dissocated ourselves, he called and talked with his mom.

  by this point she knew that i was doing research on the faulty teachings of the jw's.

  And yet we were told to examine the teachings constantly as to their veracity. Rest assured that disassociating/questioning will drive a wedge in family relationships like no other issue I've ever seen.

  did any of you read the entire bible once...?

  just wanted to know if any of you have read the entire bible?

  - i remember that it was mentioned in the congregation many times that this would be a requirement that we were to read the bible in its totality at least once and especially as elders!.

  i myself never had the time (or energy) to read the scriptures from cover to cover.

  I guess one could claim if the followed the TMS program for a while...but as for independently, no. But then again, if I do start myself, I wouldn't touch the NWT instead the old King James heirloom would be the one to start. The Koran these days would be of more interest to me in light of 9/11. The Mankind Search for God book doesn't cut it.

  i don't feel like i am a mindless robot and i resent the implication.. most jws try their sincere best when it comes to practising godly devotion, but isn't the 1000 yr. reign supposed to unroot all our bad tendencies?.

  here in new york and across the usa racial tensions between 'blacks and whites' are very strong.

  for some of that to spill into our brotherhood is natural.

  It is important to submit time spent in the ministry for congregation records. Field service time is one way to measure a person's 'sprituality', certainly not the only way of course.

  And HERE IS AGAIN another example of Pharisaically and quantitatively measuring the flock's spirituality when in actual fact one's life course involves 24/7 practicing one's values! Poppycock to field service hours.
