Does anyone remember when they did this to us back in...I think it was 90? I was pregnant I remember that...but the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT that day was that we were doing a BLITZ with FLIERS??? We were to go to every single house in our territory and put a leaflet on every single door and not stop to talk to ANYBODY just keep moving moving moving!!! And make sure EVERY PERSON WAS INFORMED....and on and ON and ON and FRICKIN ON they went like this was LIFE threatening if people didnt get this damn piece of paper!!
And I dont even remember WHAT IT SAID...but they got everybody sooooo damn excited that something (ANYTHING GOD PLEASE) was going to happen that would break up that mind numbingly boring existence we were living....hoping hoping hoping that God would bring an end to the system so we wouldnt have to go out in fricking SERVICE any more.

I recall the very same tactics were used back in the early 70's where we all were given packets of 100 tracts each, to deliver to every home in the territory every day for ten days....no stopping to talk to the householder but only to see that they were handed the tract....

I don't remember exactly what IT said either, but it was red and I think it had the word ARMAGEDDON on the front. I can't tell you how many of these USELESS blitz campaigns I have participated in from1969-1999 when I walked away from the WTS.

A tract from "Christendom"

as a faithful and obedient jw, i have always rejected christendom's literature for the trash that i imagined it was..... today as i was getting off the subway a woman was handing out tracts... for the first time in my life i said, what the heck, sure, i'll take one.... i must admit, since i have only been "out" for about 3 weeks, i was trembling somewhat as i opened it (needlessly, a shakeover from jw days).

it was titled "the power of god", and had a very brief introductory paragraph recommeding the imporatnce of getting to know god through the bible.

the rest of the litle tract (48 tiny pages) is only scripture citations.

A few years ago (I had been out of the WTS about six years at the time) I accepted a small booklet entilted "The Christ---Who He"? (or something quite close to that :o) and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

AND-----there wasn't ONE paragraph at the end that tried to push me to "come into God's organization", but ONLY to come to CHRIST for salvation.

I ATTENDED A JW FUNERAL YESTERDAY---WOW!

back in 1959 i became best friends with a fellow who was instrumental in my becoming a jehovah's witness.

yesterday i attended his mother's funeral.. from the time i was 12 years old i became a part of johnny's family and got to know his mother, jennie, very well.

in fact, she was more instrumental in convincing me there was intellectual merit to the reasoning process of consulting the bible and drawing jw conclusions than any of the arguments johnny and i had.. fast forward a bit.

As per usual, I agree with the well-expressed feelings and sentiments displayed in the opening post. I give you credit for showing up, not knowing how you would be treated. Our family had occasion to gather together for a nonJW member's "outing" (for lack of a better term) and MY JW BIL (of my age) took this event to, when leaving, go around to every family member and hug them or shake their hand while walking right past me as I was standing and talking with some folks.

A few short years later HE died, and the JW funeral at the KH, was held where he lives....400 miles away. Hubby could not get the time off from work and even if I HAD a way to get there....I felt that BIL didn't want anything to do with me when he was alive....WHY should I travel all that way by myself with the disablities I happen to deal with...for him? We simply decided "thanks but no thanks. (I had also sworn I would never set foot in a KH ever again after I walked away from the WTS, which ALSO played heavily into my decision) There WAS another unexpected death in our family, from the same area.....that I didn't travel to ( truly, I don't travel well) but my hubby and son had gone to the services, so it is not unusual for me to NOT show up for these trips)

It seems after this event, that the friendly phone calls and visits ended and it took us a while to figure out that that side of the family was all ticked off at us (mostly at me) and were not speaking to us now BECAUSE we did not make the trip....despite the distinct and unmistakable dissing I received BY him just a few years before....in front of the whole family group.

I have been to enough JW funerals to KNOW they are ONLY for extending another opportunity to preach at the captive nonJW family members in attendance, with extremely little ever being said about the deceased other than his "WTS hope and dedication". They are such blatant infomercials and left me cold when I WAS an active JW. I see absolutely no reason to sit there and have to listen to any more of that drivel to make THEM "feel good" in some weird way. Not only that, but being DAed, I would be an outcast, so I would have the "pleasure of their company", sitting through their boring "talk", along with the cold stares and fishy sneers.

JWs ARE a very strange group with even more strange ways and their expectations of OTHERS.

Sorry....NOT my cup of tea.

Oh my, just found out, my grandson, is autistic, daughter has cancer...

ok, like there is not enough going on in my life now,,,with my shop windows being smashed out 4 times in the last month and i have to pay for them.

son, who i found out at xmas, finally called after 18 months, is bipolar,,that his son, of 3 is very autistic, cant even talk,,and my daughter,,the career driven successful better than anyone (hhmm) fell on a cruise ship and found out she has cancer in hip,,,had it in knee as a 12 year old.

ok now.......when do i get to have a meltdown.

You have seen some great advice on the earlier posts. "One day at a time" is the best way to cope with and attack anything when things seem to hit us in waves like this. If you recall, we raised a learning disabled autitistic grandson (with ADHD) since five months of age---he did not speak until he was four and had temper tantrums that would make people clear an aisle in a grocery store---and he has graduated High School and is in his first year of college a few hours from here.

There is much more attention being focused on Autism than even a few short years ago, and many wonderful agencies that have free pamphlets and even classes to take on how to best deal with the problems brought on by families with members suffering from Autism, a hop over to GOOGLE will help you I'm sure.

This was the first post I happened to see after quite a LONG time from being away from JWD....( for whatever reason, I just could NOT figure out how to log on or be able to participate). Hubby finally unraveled the mystery, fixed me right up.....and here I am! After all this time being away, it was nice to find I might be able to help with something I happened to have a little bit of knowledge in.

"I didn't know I could still function!!"

the dc program for this year includes talks on overcoming discouragement due to "tiredness".. i assume this is not the "i need to put my feet up with a coffee" kind of tiredness.. in readiness for the propaganda, i note a quote in the june 15 witchtower p6:.

"i tearfully and fervently thanked jehovah for all his help.

i did not know it was possible to keep functioning for so long while being so weak from exhaustion.

Do I smell the distinct odor of several "experiences" on the platform, presenting some senior SENIOR citizens boasting of their "joy" in their YEARS Special Pioneering while holding full-time employment hauling logs in logging camps......

and a blind and deaf 97-year-old Brother with no hands that stands on street corners at dawn, handing out WTS litter-ature, so that all those able-bodied shiftless rank & file JWs at this convention will feel terrible pangs of GUILT and vow then and there to DO MORE for the Watchtower convert making process?

It would not seem as if things have changed in the eight years since I stopped attending these conventions.

The line of "reasoning" where they say that because Jesus has actually been a human, and hence knows what it's like, enables him to deal with us more lovingly always sounded a little weak to me. Him and his Dad (who happens to be all-knowing) made us, for heaven's sake!

At first I thought you were all joking about this "special talk" and what the subject was....and reading the post I quoted, it seems as though this WASN'T a joke after all.

I "studied" in 1969 (unfortunately got baptized in 72), but I was TOLD this very same thing way back THEN..... about the qualifications that Jesus had, and why, etc.

And you're telling me NOW they are having talks designated as "SPECIAL" for teaching something they have been saying since at least 1969?

(sigh)

ONLY in Watchtowerland, folks, ONLY in Watchtowerland........
