Yes, I am so grateful for all these people have done for us and how they give up so much in their life to try and make mine better. I truly mean this. For years I secretly wanted to put money in the SA kettle at the holidays, and to buy the Vet's poppies when I saw them being sold. I am also very grateful to be allowed now to proudly buy and wear them without the fear of "displeasing" the Watchtowergod.

Do you wear a poppy?
by dozy ini always wished that i could wear a poppy on the run-up to rememberance sunday ( for details on this british commonwealth custom see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/poppy_day ) and often used to buy a poppy but binned it before anyone saw me wearing one.
as i understand it , it is a dfing offence ,though i cant see anything explicity in the wts literature.

Ahhh..... yes.....faithful ones can always rely on the Watchtower publications to issue bible truths:
***1969 "In view of the SHORT TIME LEFT, a decision to PURSUE a CAREER in this system of things is not only UNWISE but EXTREMELY DANGEROUS .. Many young brothers and sisters were offered scholarship or employment that promised fine pay. However, they turned them down and put spiritual interests first." {KMIN Jun 1969 3}
***"In the coming 26 years, all present governments will be overthrown and dissolved." (C.T. Russell, Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. 2, p. 98-99, 1889)
***"In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished at the end of A. D. 1914." (The Time Is At Hand; 1889; 1908 ed.; p. 99)
***"True, it is expecting great things to claim, as we do, that within the coming twenty-six years all present governments will be overthrown and dissolved" (The Time Is At Hand; 1889; 1908 ed.; p. 99)
The noses of these arrogant frauds must be growing along with their forked tongues.

Dearest Jeff......I just read this through my Facebook account and I am tied up today with dr's appts, the home nurse coming by and the PT gal as well later this afternoon (for my hubby).....so I won't have the time to reply in the way that I want to until my day calms down somewhat. I will write when I can. My heart goes out to you both in so many ways. Be assured of my love and my utmost empathy for all that you have gone through.
hugs,

Thanks for posting this article. I am SO glad that I never had to deal with this situation when I raised six children in this hideous cult.

Going back to "what they don't tell you" when you begin to "study the bible" with JWs.....is how they invite you to attend a meeting....which turned out to be (in my case) five meetings per week.....that are not under the idea of an "invitation" any longer but mandatory to attend if you want to be pleasing to God......and so it goes.
When "studying the bible" (always with WTS aids of course), one is expected to also study a publication touting the organization.....which is designed to help build faith IN that organization..... rather than putting full faith in Christ to attain salvation.
What they don't tell you at first....is that you will be expected to attend every meeting, assembly, convention and special assembly day that the WTS cooks up, no matter what your finances are or how many difficulties you have to work out in order to be there. Choosing to NOT attend....(to the WTS) demonstrates your lack of faith and you will be seen as "spiritually weak" among your brothers and sisters. It IS emotional blackmail as is much of what the WTS doles out to their loyal followers.
Despite the 130+ years of false predictions and goofy counsel fed as "food from God".....one MUST accept whatever the Governing Body currently prints in order to remain in the congregation.
WTS followers are NOT "pleasing God" and HIS requirements.....but are clearly told to be pleasing the Governing Body and THEIR requirements.

Vilot....that was an EXCELLENT video! It was well done, got the point across, and did not offend the senses. I salute the person that put that together!Walking away from this cult nearly ten years after a thirty-year servitude to the Governing Body, I am now pulling away from being on exJW sites and making new and beautiful beginnings.....but I feel that this video has to be seen in as many places as possible! I hope I have permission to post this on Facebook, Myspace and a few other sites that will benefit by seeing it.

Having a (gasp) worldly husband, a houseful of children and always struggling to make ends meet.....I never volunteered actually host a meal for the CO and his wife. I did, however though, put together a more informal invitation to coffee and cookies etc after field service. A few others were inviited too. It was far less intimidating, more relaxed, and was actually quite enjoyable. The CO, Dan Wakelin, really opened up, was very funny and entertaining...... and things all went pretty well, LOL!

Why were you baptized?
by bluecanary ininspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.
i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.
i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.

Wow......I see that so many posters were under 20 years old and I feel foolish because I was 30 and should have known better! In 1969 I had a huge disagreement with the parish priest over the expenses $$$ of our children's !st Communion and the nice JW ladies came to the door right afterwards. They asked if I wanted to know what my bible said.....I began the WTS indoctrination program, and the rest is history.
This was at the time that the WTS was screaming to hurry, hurry, HURRY and get baptized before the END came because you would die where you stood when the wrath of God struck. I wanted a better life for myself and my kids......and to live in that idyllic world I saw pictured on the covers of the WTS literature and being baptized was my ticket to paradise. I was baptized in 1972.......and (sigh) we are STILL waiting for "THE END TO COME"! (My grandchildren included, LOL)

Penetrating the Deepest Level- "Jehovah" is God
by OnTheWayOut inhaving been there, most of us can see that the idea that "jehovah" is god, and a group that uses the name and even carries the name as a badge of honor (jehovah's witnesses) have a very deep level of belief in the religion and that virtually anything that tries to upset the belief causes great cognitive dissonance.
to even suggest that witnesses of [the named god] are wrong is just so heavy on their dissonance.
to suggest that a group of people that carries the name of their god are misleading is like suggesting that everything they know is wrong, gravity doesn't exist, up is down, the sun exploded.

What thoughts do you have on penetrating a JW's deepest level of belief that "Jehovah" as defined by WTS is God and WTS must be "right" because they carry HIS name?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have since come to appreciate that there is only ONE NAME that the bible says to be honored and revered and placed above ALL others, and that is Jesus Christ. (Phil 2:9-10) We see at Acts 4:26, "And it came to pass that for a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught many people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." Followers of Jesus Christ....were called Christians....not Jehovah's Witnesses.
The WTS can think up all sorts of cutesy cliches to "prove" they are the only ones approved by God.....but the bottom line is that all they HAVE is a bookbag filled with cutesy cliches. One has to get a WTS defender to see that first.
