Remembering Jan Groenveld

i was just reading the "12 steps" thread and decided to start a new thread to give those of us who "knew" her-the chance to say what they'd like to share with all our newbies.

when i was in the process of knowing what the wts was all about, and not quite ready to make the break or tell people what i had discovered---jan took me under her large wing and helped me so much.

i can't tell you how many things she sent for me to read and how many emails she wrote to me as i plodded and trudged through my realization and pain of what i had dedicated my life to serving.

after the sunday culttower study is over, everyone will be expected to preach because the end is soooooooo close!.

[minimus i have added to the title so people can read yor correction.

otherwise i think people might just miss it.

Is there anyone in your Mom's KH that you could talk with to see if something like this was said? You could use a "conversational tone" that would seem like praising the good work of the GB for this idea, blah, blah, blah....and see what reaction you get.

Sell By Dates - Do You Take Much Notice of Them?

sell by and use by dates on food produce seem to have become the norm these days.

on one side we have the squeaky clean supermarkets with their dating system, while on the other side is a combination of media scare stories about listeria, salmonella etc.

and voracious food standards authorities.

I am extra-super-careful on checking expiration dates! I DID let one go for the first time in AGES.... just last week I opened a can of Campbell's soup that was to be used by Sept 15th and I used it on Oct 1st. We are fine!

If anything does not SHOW any expiration date---I won't purchase it.

hello friends,.

for those of you that do not know my situation, i am an alcoholic that fell off the wagon this weekend.

oh boy do i feel bad!

It takes courage to admit to people on a discussion board that you messed up and have taken steps to get back on track. Bravo! Being from two parents that were alcoholics, I too am aware of the implications and downfalls.

thanks for sharing this book with me.

although i'm sure this book is accurate and these things have happened within the governing body, it did happen a long time ago and even the "annoited" are imperfect men.. after alot of thought and prayer i chose to stay a witness- an active witness to my ability which is now limited.

just cant figure out how I offended her, other than possibly she feels guilty for staying in the org, knowing what she knows and now I know, she knows......

Poor Purps! We had such high hopes for her (and your relationship with her)!

I have a hunch that she is feeling a bit guilty for opening up to you and revealing her true feelings about the Org, and also consenting to read C of C. She is now going to put on the sackcloth and ashes and now punish herself by not attending that shower to apply salve her stricken conscience. I can assure you, she is still struggling with this whole thing, but has chosen the path of least resistance at present.

I would not write her off just yet....as mentioned previously, the seeds have been planted and I am pretty sure that she DOES recognize a lot more wrong with the Org, than she is even willing to admit to herself at this point. Just be willing to listen when she comes back to you with more doubts, but let HER make the first move on this.

Hang in there...the wind may very well change when you least expect it to!

Your writing was hilarious and meant even MORE because we just got through repainting and remodeling the kitchen, dining room and bathroom all spring and summer....AND we have two cats! I totally understand every word!

I was having a discussion with my JW roomate and I need some HELP!!

we were talking about things and she said she can't understand why i don't believe in god.

i told her that the god she worshipped is going to destroy innocent children at armegeddon.

she said that's not true...they don't believe that.

This is another excellent thread to show JWs right from their own literature, that things are not as peachy as they would seem to be in Watchtowerland. This is the the type of things that they don't like to talk about---OR have others know.
